Progress and Process!

I got my PC back and it's working again!! Thank goodness. One completely cleared C drive, a fresh copy of Windows 11, and it's back on my desk where it belongs. Now this leaves me one whole day to try and put a new video together for Thursday 😅

In the meantime, I managed to get 98% of the painting done in the closet room. I added my hand painted spiderwebs to the "bunting" along the ceiling, a coordinating ceiling medallion around the central light fixture area, and decided to hold off adding any additional details in the red vanity nook for now. Then I had real fun time (ahem) putting in the new light fixture. It turned out the junction box was just too far recessed for my chandelier base to screw on like it needed to. Luckily, I found this out after balancing and installing the thing most of the way and tiring my arms out into burnt noodles. One very grumbling mumbling 40 minute trip to the hardware store and back later, I had a junction box extension, installed that, and for 4 extra dollars I had it all working at last.

Someone had installed a drywall ceiling right over the old plaster of course, so that was why the box was too far recessed to begin with, and now of course becuase they only make one size of extension...it is about 1/2" too 'long', but a ceiling medallion (an actual one) or some trim can fix that little gap down the line 🥵

And thus I survived my first ever wired in light fixture install! I very much enjoyed (for real this time) hanging the glass leaves and crystals on. I think this fixture is suitably 'Brighton Royal Pavilion' -core in that slightly camp, still very pretty, and a bit tropical combo way. The pink of the hallways of the Pavilion definitely helped me lean in this rich coral direction in here. Of course being me, I put color change LED bulbs in the light fixture as well.

Today I put up the patterned window cling which means I can film in this room if I want to without having to worry about blurring the view, and as a dressing room privacy is also good. I do want to make a valance/lambrequin or roman shade of some kind as well with some suitable silk from my stash. I will use the same fabric to reupholster the vanity stool. I didn't paint the very inside widow trims, as the ivory paint there is in pretty bad shape and the original sash needs to be taken apart and repaired down the line anyhow.

The amazing narrow table top mirror was a homegoods find, and I fell in love with it immediately upon walking in the store to buy a trash can instead, so, that's predictable for me. I'm just starting to try and find where all my darn stuff is in the sea of boxes so I can unpack and "dress" the vanity and dresser in here. The painted box under the window was a quick diy upgrade too. I quickly folk painted and then distressed it to better match the room.

The last picture shows that yes the walls are pink, but the warmer color seen in the other photos is more accurate to how it looks in person. It's /so/ coral it's nearly red, which is bold and fun and I love it more each day it's been up. Why coral and warmth in here anyway? Because I know most of the rest of the house will be green and teal and I'll want the variety! I'll be breaking up the color a bit with the curtains that will enclose the clothing racks going across the wall opposite from the vanity as well, so you will see that soon. I also need to source super tall baseboard somewhere to finish trimming out the originally untrimmed closet. One more way you know these closets were all later additions put up quick in the 70's! I should also get on the touch up painting near the radiator...

I cannot tell you how good it feels to have one room that now feels fully clean and actually "me". Unpacking a fair few boxes at long last is going to make the house feel much more like home. Home is where your cats and clothes are, as I always say...

Thank you again for your kind words and patience. I will have a video about designing and putting this closet room together coming soon eventually, previewed to Patreon first and then onto the channel in the coming weeks. Firstly I'm hoping to have a video about moving and the house buying process coming to the channel later this week ❤

You can always put several pieces of baseboard trim together stacked one on top of the other to make it taller. Once you fill in the crack and paint it no one will ever know it was not purchased that way. Then you can have it look anyway you want and as tall as you want. One of a kind baseboard trim.

Hi, Wow! I mean Wow! This is absolutely stunning. And you've done it yourself. If that's not empowering nothing will be. You made a walk in wardrobe and dressing room in no time, with also having to deal with a recalcitrant computer. My mind is thoroughly blown. I can't wait to see what you come up with in the next room. By the way, that faux etched window is not just very good looking, but I admire your craftiness in figuring out how to film without it getting too personal. Yours, Ann

Beautiful! And I'm so glad the computer gremlins exited the picture. I completely understand the joy of having part of your space truly feel like you. Even when all your stuff is there, so much nicer when it's out of boxes and visible.

If you are going for Victorian Gothic Maximalism, then you have nailed it. I love the colours and the fact that the web details aren't stenciled makes it so much nicer.

Brilliant! And all these new skills you're developing. Looking forward to seeing the video. And very relieved that you were able to repair your PC. I know how you feel - my expensive steam generator iron stopped steaming last week. My OH stripped it down, worked out what had failed (solenoid valve) replaced it for £25 and so far so good. I have steam!! Thank goodness for people who know how to repair stuff!

Hi, I'm sorry to disturb you. What does OH stand for, please? American and English are my second and third languages, and I'm a curiosity driven woman of a certain age. I also don't have any social media, so a lot of internety things passes me by. My curiosity couldn't find anything at the language department of Google University, so I'm trying for a direct approach instead. My apologies if I'm to familiar here when asking. Feel free to ignore if I'm a bother, I won't take it personally, truly. Yours, Ann

I'm so excited for you! I didn't live completely on my own until I was 41 and learned what colors I /actually/ like and didn't just go along with. It's such a freeing thing. Beautiful colors and I'm excited to be along on this journey.
