One way, or another...

Just as I start to recover from this nasty cold at last, I made a grand mistake--

I let Windows run an update. Then my PC stopped working, naturally. It no longer wanted to connect to my monitor, some driver was outdated somewhere, and it wouldn't boot up properly. Four hours of troubleshooting over the phone with my brother, safe mode, bios mode, me restarting the darn thing 800 times mode...we got nowhere but further confused. The C drive is full...of what? Goodness alone knows, as I store everything on external drives, so it's full of something mysterious and background noisy and strange. Too full to allow a simple reformatting of itself and re-installing Windows. So as much as I would love to start making new videos (even if I can't sew yet either) I suddenly actually cannot edit either.

I took the PC to be repaired tonight, hopefully that goes well and I'll get it back in a few days. Firstly, so I can make a video before next Thursday, and secondly because I really really cannot afford to buy a new PC right now 😩

As my mom said when I explained all this, "you just can't catch a break", but I /had/ caught a break in oh so many ways last month. This little run of bad luck is still a fair trade for the fortune of making the move, and moving my cats especially, safely and uneventfully. Still, it has been delay after delay preventing my actually diving into the new content I want make (and feel obligated to make, to y'all, to youtube, to my frazzled finance department...aka me).

I console my bending brain with what I can control, aka, paint. I finished scrubbing down the back closet room. I coated the entire room with fancy primer. I painted three coats of Benjamin Moore's 'Rosy Peach' on the walls and the ceiling both. Then after taking the PC into Albany, I came home tonight and finally got to paint in my scalloped border around the ceiling in 'Red Oxide'. Tomorrow I will get to paint on the black spiderweb and neoclassical details, paint the window and door frames black, and maybe actually move some furniture into the room. Luckily this will all be a reno video eventually, but for now I can only reno, and cannot edit until I hear back...

Let's just say I may have let myself buy fancy cookies on my way home tonight too, I needed a fancy cookie.

I'm tired of saying it, but thank you for your patience. I cannot wait to actually be back up and running, it's just taking far longer than I had ever planned. At least I might actually get to unpack my clothes tomorrow night, a girl can dream ✨

I would have genuinely been surprised if the schedule you set yourself was even close to achieved. Totally agree with others that while this sesems really shitty, it may also be a kindness from the world, giving you a chance to eat bikkies and settle into your beautiful new home (sorry, Aussie social work reframe! )

The computer problem really sucks, and I hope they get it back to you soon in perfect working order. 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Love your painting so far! I hope you did treat yourself to a fancy cookie; you deserve it! I am binge-watching "This Is Us" (missed the entire series the first time because not home enough to make a TV worth having), so....I say take these lemons and make lemonade, lemon tarts, and any other lemon thing your heart desires! Use your down time to get a lot done at home before you start making videos. Make your dream of unpacking your clothes come true! Most important, don't forget to take care of yourself!! Don't stress about the videos. We are here for you ( and I'm not mad at you😉❤️). As someone else posted, if it took you a year, I would still be a Patreon subscriber!

You are doing fabulously, Bianca. These are minor setbacks in the long run. Making your dreams come true can sometimes get messy, but you got this! Re: the computer -- You have my complete and unreserved sympathy. I went through something similar some years ago. Since then I've made a habit of using the "create restore point" function before doing a system update. That way, if my PC acts weird after an update, I can roll it back to its previous state, effectively "erasing" the update. By the sounds of it, though, your hard drive needs corrective intervention beyond the scope of the restore function. Hopefully it can be repaired quickly and you can get back to editing soon.

I know the sense of obligation one can feel under the circumstances, and I know it would personally be an incredible stress for me to feel that sense of obligation so I know it might not do much to ease your mind, but.....TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED!! I have learned SO MUCH (so so so much) from you over these years that you could take a couple years off from making content and I'd still be a patreon supporter. The only thing I want is for you to take care of you and for you to be well and as stress-free as possible. Truly. ❤️ Also, that paint job is absolutely bangin'!

Puck · January 27, 2025

Even while everything else might feel like it's working against you right now, that border looks amazing! I hope your computer gets its act together and does what it is built to do. And you deserved that fancy cookie for all the hard work you've put in!

The paint job is fab. The cookies, hopefully, were just as fab. We, here on Patreon, are waiting patiently. We want to see into what your gloriously creative mind will transform your home, but we will wait. We are a contented (oh look, a /pun/) lot of followers of the Bee. Hang in there. You will triumph.

Hi, You don't have to worry about not producing anything extra for Patreon, at least that is where my thinking is. I'm happy to forgo any channel videos too. It seems like a lot of other Youtubers are taking January off as there are slim pickings in my "Subscriptions" list. I have had fun with some new to me, channels in the meantime. As I have no idea about your group of people on the main channel works, you know best about how much you need to do to not lose too much momentum. I do hope you can find a solution, dm serious , to your editing ability, for your own sanity, if nothing else. Also, breathing is a good thing I heard. Eating and sleeping too, though the last one I don't have much empirical evidence of. Anecdotally, sleeping is a good thing. You seem to blow through the remodelling of your house at lightning speed. (Is it light speed or lightening speed? I don't actually know. The dangers of not having English and/or American as my first language, I guess). At least in compared to DH's and my ability. We moved into this apartment in 1996. It had wallpaper that was falling down during summer then, and the same wallpaper is still falling down during summers now. DH re-glues them once a year and we're fine (-ish). One thing hampering us is that we can't come up with what we'd like our living room to look like. So we've put off remodelling the room until we have a few brain waves. All except for putting in new flooring, we had that done for us a long time ago. I'm fairly sure DH will re-glue the wallpaper this summer too. That will mean that we can live with sloping wallpaper for 30 years. Wallpaper is the most common way to do the walls around here, and even if we could afford William Morris neither of us would like that. We are much more into light airy feels, the way you'd find in Scandinavian homes. Funny how that works. I have perused a TV program about some of the recent trends in furnishing homes. I would recommend getting your brown furniture now, as at least in Great Britain it seems like they are coming into vogue again, and prices are slowly start to go from, I help you if you get it out of here, to this IS the trade price, I won't go lower. The prices still seem very reasonable, though. That would be Antiques Road Trip I think. Maybe you should try and highlight some of the stores where you go antiquing and the wares they sell, in an agreement of discounts for the furniture you want to buy. Would that be a promotional concession you'd be comfortable with? I know that some Youtubers routinely are doing that with Lowes and/or Home Depot too, but they aren't that interesting to me. Too impersonal and... is bland the right word, maybe? There is a antiques dealer that made that niche a nice side business for almost 20 years on one of the British channels. It's called Salvage Hunter, and is one of our highly approved dinner TV programs. We have that one, the Great British Bake Off, of course, Great British Pottery something, and the Sewing Bee. I'm trying to re introduce Salvage Hunter, The Restorers in rotation, but DH says it annoys him. I have no Idea why. They show people that restores derelict "antiques" by reupholstering chairs, and in one particular case an Art Deco chaise longue, fix mechanisms that has corroded unusable, making new parts to broken iron things. Real trades people that know how to do things without diminishing the value of the piece they work on. I highly recommend. Maybe I should stop chit chatting, and let the reader who might still be here, get on with their day... or night as case may be. I Remain Yours etc. Ann

It may not seem like it now, but the tide will turn, and the bad luck will be but a memory. There is plenty of Closet Historian content to keeps us busy. No one could expect to be back to a normal schedule after moving across the country, with "CATS!". We shall be here waiting anxiously to consume your creative energy, once you're settled. Now breath...😘👍

You are fabulous and the paint job is stunning! No reasonable human expects your regular scheduled programming when you've just moved house. I still haven't made my way through all your content here and we can rewatch your YouTube videos to keep the algorithm sweet until you're ready. Enjoy making your new home ❤

Beautiful!!! I watch at least 5 videos on YouTube per night. I’m falling in love with your iPhone “live” type filming all over again. The progress photos are keeping me happy. Don’t forget to take a moment for yourself to breathe and relax or meditate. You are an inspiration

Oof, sounds like an overwhelming amount of happenings are going on in your world. Fingers crossed for the bad parts to work themselves out smoothly very soon, just so you can have a little more space for the enjoyable parts and the desired amount of work/content creation. All the updates on your house are very exciting to see, so thank you for sharing them. Looking forward to so much eye candy as you're able to show more of what you've been doing.

Love the paint job so far! Inspiring for my daughter's room. She loves pink and purple and that's a mature pink, not a little girl pink. So good! Ty for sharing the shade names too. So sorry about the PC issues, though. What bovine stercus! But, I'm willing to wait too for all the gorgeous reno update videos. Super excited for them and new sewing when ever you can! And allow yourself to be po'd and frustrated even if you recognize how blessed you are also. That's life. A mix of curses and blessings, acmes and nadirs, yeahs and boos. We all get it. Don't feel guilt about that which is not in your control. Your work ethic is not questioned by any of us, I'm sure! You amaze me!

Hi, Thank you for the laugh. I had of course translate the Latin(?), it didn't give off any old Greek, to me. I have neglected those studies throughout my life, so I'm so glad to have benefitted from yours with a laugh out loud. It rarely happens so it's most valuable when they occur. I conure with the sentiments in your post wholeheartedly. Yours, Ann

Here’s hoping the fairy godmother of PCs visits your machine tonight!🪄You’ve sure been dealt a tricky hand. I hope the tide turns for your ship to sail smooth waters. The paint colour looks similar to your Sanctus looks. Very nice! You’ve traded the makeup brush for the paint brush.😅

I hate computer updates for just this reason. But, if you don't allow them you get into trouble too. Your plans for your closet are so spectacular, I can't wait to see what you've got in store for the rest of the house. Carpet in, paint on, vanity bought, computer dropped off. Sounds like progress to me.

Lesley Seaden · January 26, 2025

Cookies usually can make me feel better, not that I have them often. I love that border, you've done a smashing job on them. I bet the ceiling will look good too once the masking tape comes off. Hope the PC doesn't set you back too much. Shame we're not able to claim compensation when an update buggers up your computer or phone x

I had that cold too! It really kicks your butt🤧. I hope you are 100% and can save your computer. I’m glad you have your fun painting project. That’s really cute.

As long as you are okay, we can wait. If a new computer is necessary, I’m sure I’m not the only one that can pitch in at least a little bit. You and your creative future are important to us❤️❤️❤️❤️ It is fun to see what you can do with dreams and paint❤️❤️❤️

Fingers crossed your computer issues are resolved quickly and Here's to hoping no new computer is needed. The colors and design are lovely. I can't wait to see the finished project, and YES!! I would love to watch Reno videos of restoring an old (new to you) home. I love watching people restore like Shannon Makes with her 120-year-old house in their style. Me watching from my rented house and have no prospects of buying a house with my husband- much less one needing restoration.
