Well, Well, Wallpaper...
You know, this 'avoids math' thing may just bite me. I bought three rolls, with all the windows and doorways, surely that would be enough?!
Joke was on me, I had enough for ONE WALL. Less really, becuase let's just say I messed up a strip...and I only got 2 strips per roll anyway, eek! This was my first wallpaper experience, and mainly what I have learned so far, besides my lack of square foot reasoning, is that cheap peel and stick is simply not the way to go. Better to save up for something with zero stretch, because oof.
I trimmed out the cat gateway, and the closet nook as well, seeing as whoever quickly knocked up these closets in the 1970's was not what we would call a drywall expert, and the top edge is about 1.5 inch different on either side. The trim is now leveled at least, which helps visually. I pained the inside of the closet and all of the trim the same blue grey shade as the ceiling, Benjamin Moore "Winter Solstice", which makes extra sense since I was painting the trim...on the winter solstice. I used the matte ceiling paint for the inside of the closet, and the inset panels of the door, and then used semi-gloss for the window, door frame, and gateway trims. I also painted the baseboards black (semi-gloss in Onyx, took 3 coats) to match the new black baseboard radiator cover. Please forgive the quick phone snaps with bad ceiling fan lighting at night, but as previously stated--shortest daylight of the year!
I still want to make a bed crown/tent drapery sort of situation for the daybed wall, probably in cotton canvas so the cat claws won't be a problem. I'll have to mock that up in photoshop to see if I want to do pastel or a grounding black against the busy (Moths!!) wallpaper. I would like to add crown moulding (painted the same blue) in the future as well. I have also ordered a nice massive new cat tree for the babies, but it won't arrive until after new years.
Even though I couldn't finish the wallpaper, for uh, obvious reasons, this room is at least /more/ ready for the cats than any other in the house. Let's just say the last owners had an even looser relationship with dusting than I do, which as we know, is saying something. I'll be continuing to clean and organize some more before the cats unlock full explore mode around the rest of the place. We (my mom and I) drive them out just after Christmas, and hopefully we will all survive the anxiety of it all. At least they have been prescribed some stuff, all I'll have is caffeine.
I was going to try to edit a quick video for you from the house, but then it turned out I didn't pack a power cord for my computer monitor...or my computer mouse either, so that slowed me down. I have my microphone to try and at least get the podcast recorded, but I've never edited on my laptop before, so I'm not positive it is even possible. Thank you so much for your patience with me, I can only promise I will make it up to you just as soon as I am back to functionality!!

Photos are just fine....anyway, I enjoy your written words as well. The wallpaper is so great!
I *love* the kitty connecting door! That is too cute. <3
Love the wallpaper! So you. If you don’t want to mess with more walpaper in the kitty room right now, just consider it an accent wall and call it done.
Hi again - and if you ever need help with math computations for wallpaper, patterns, etc., send a message and I'll help - I have a degree in math and a degree in fashion design (and have worked in both fields) - math is definitely a very handy skill for any art, especially anything 3D. Have a very happy holiday!
Hi Bianca, about your trip with your cats across the states - don't know if you're aware of this, but you can ship your car to your new home, fly to NY with your mom and cats, and save loads of money and also avoid loads of stress. I did this when I moved clear across the country, and it was so much better than driving myself. Plus, no extra wear and tear on your car, and less "calming medication" on your cats. It was only about $800 at that time (2011). If it's not too late, check it out. The shipper will pick up your car at your house in CO and deliver directly to your new address, or whatever address you want it delivered to. he cat door is so ingenious and darling!
Omg the trim around the little cat door! Too cute
Can’t wait to see Ollie’s face next to that amazing wall paper! Love the secret door, too!
I’m very excited by this little taster of your aesthetic vision for the house. It’s going to be fabulous and I can’t wait for you to share it with us. All good vibes to you, your mum and the fur babies for the journey.
Ahh! The trim is such a cute detail on the cat pass through! I'm in a VERY slanted old apartment in an old house so I get the struggle of trying to get something to look level-ish when nothing else is. Hope that the rest of your moving journey goes smoothly and that you & the cats make it to your new home safe & sound. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the New Year and also -- hope you are able to take some time to yourself too!
That wallpaper is so cool!
Ah yes, wallpaper. Although if you think about it it's just like pattern matching with fabric just on a larger scale! You'll get the hang of it in no time (no pun intended honest 🤣). And if do you want professional advice in the future just ask - I'm married to one 🙂
My husband and I almost got divorced over the first thing we tried to wallpaper, which was the baby’s room. It all worked out in the end, but I learned so much.
Have you ever tried using fabric on walls? It works great if you use super starch for application and it’s really easy to remove when you get tired of it. The fabric turned out to be less expensive than the fancy paper from England I love, too. Win/win!
Lol … sorry, when it comes to wallpaper one can not ‘avoid the maths’. But it IS so you - and by extension - your kitties should LOVE it. It is starting to get that Victorian ‘goth’ feel. Can’t wait to see where the journey takes you … and we’ll be happily waiting here for you while you’re on that journey!!
Loving the moody vibes and the bugs…flipping wonderful…Le meow and Le purr for the babies…for all the worry etc…the travelling will be hardest on you and mum…the babies are young and healthy and will love being your furry darlings… Merry Christmas and safe travels to Colorado and then back home…to your home🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
Speaking for myself, I am truly grateful to live vicariously with all your updates. Good luck with the long drive, I am sure all will be fine.
I, for one love the wall paper. And the little cat opening is so cute. Your finishing work skills are excellent! I drove across country, CA to SC with two cats and a husband 6 weeks post brain surgery and believe me the cats weren’t the big issues once they figured out we had driven long past the dit-on e to the vet. Best of luck with the last drive home.
Hi, So, the cats need a closet 😉😊? Fanciest cats ever. You seem to have had a completely different 1970's than I had growing up. That was all wallpaper made from seaweed, big medallions in obnoxious colors, and the sauna like wood panelling my father proudly put up in the den. This was in around 1972 or so, and the obnoxious medallions stayed all the way into the very early 80's. And heavens won't let me forget the very primary yellow colored kitchen, of course. The dried seaweed wallpaper was as dusty and disgusting as it sounds. At least the one that was in my room, and I didn't make the choice. Your wallpaper though... 👌 I have a friend that works with remodelling houses as his day job. He told me once that you have to wash the walls first, with some solution that I can't remember, before you put the wallpaper up. At least that modern pre glued from the factory ones. I've only put up the other kind, once a very long ago, and it won't happen again. Not as long as I can defend myself. I'm in awe of your skillset. Painting, building cats' thoroughfares, putting up wallpaper, and design the most fabulous fashion. I look forward to see what other rabbits you can pull out of that hat. Just don't do it to hard. You know my issue about speaking for others, but at least, I'm not holding you to doing things at your usual breakneck speed. Keep breathing and enjoy the process. Hopefully you won't have to do it again for a very long time, so you should have fun doing it. As previously said, Merry Christmas, have a safe drive with your mom and cats to your home, (maybe stop in Indianapolis for lunch), and a Happy New Year, Love, Ann
As far as the wallpaper goes I would highly recommend using traditional wallpaper. I feel like it's much more forgiving when applying as the glue allows you to to easily slide the wall paper around on the wall and make adjustments. I've bought all of my wallpaper from wallpaper direct and have had really good luck with them. I think they are actually having a 30% off sale right now too. Also they have a wallpaper calculator which is pretty helpful.
Nice wallpaper, it's coming along nicely xxx
Omg moth wallpaper!!! The dream!!
Well done you!
Wow, I appreciate the attention to detail on the cat door trim
Perfect wallpaper!! Is it William Morris? Love what you did with the cat door, and great paint color!
Love the trim on the kitty doorway and the wallpaper?! Stunning even if there's a small bit. Can't wait to see the babies' room all finished! Have a safe trip. Merry Solstice!
Oh my goodness the cat door is soooooo cute 😍
The tiny trim and rosettes on the cat gateway are killing me!! And holy wow I love the wallpaper and the paint colors you chose! Btw would you be open to showing us pics of the baby kitties?! I’m so damn curious!
The wallpaper is beautiful. And very on brand!
Looking very good. This will be very cool!
That cat door is so cute! Please don't feel bad about videos and podcasts being delayed, I don't think any of us expect regular posting during the busiest time of your life, especially in an already normally busy time of year!
So exciting!!
Merry Christmas enjoy the chaos
Excellent wallpaper choice, even if there's bot *quite* enough of it. I can see the ✨VISION✨
I love the play by play you're giving of the house. It's going to be fabulous! I know you, your mom and the cats will want to keep moving but if you stop in Indianapolis I'll treat you to lunch.
That is the cutest little cat doorway I've ever seen. And yes, that wallpaper pattern is gorgeous, maybe just a little math next time lol ❤️
Beautiful!! Is the wallpaper William Morris!?!?! It's the perfect level of victorian arts and crafts. LOVE!!!!
The wallpaper is cool. It this the cats room?
It is the cat's room yes! They get a whole twin bed, so technically I could stick a very feline accepting human guest in here too, but I have another proper guest room as well ✨
Love the trim 😍
That wallpaper is stunning!
I love that wallpaper
