Early Access // This Thursday's Video
Hello all!
Whew. I am typing to you from a hotel back in NY, and I just got the heating on so things are improving by the minute. I got in at 1am last night becuase that was the only direct flight from Denver. I've spent the last several days frantically trying to get everything done for the week since I knew I would be out of the office yet again! I managed to get this next Thursday's video done in time, and thus have it here to preview for all of you.
And yes, back in NY, wasn't I just here? Yes. The joys of house hunting. I haven't looked out the window yet, but some of those trees better be orange out there to greet me.
Thank you so much for your support and I will report back soon!

This mock up is stunning and fits so well. The silhouette is amazing!
Hi Bianca - I'd say your corset fits perfectly, and I love the green color! Ravishing! And because you love green, and you'll soon be decorating your new home, check out this video that popped up in the YT suggestions for me today - great inspiration for interior design: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3COQjn8oiU
Thank you Marie!
Love the corset! That silhouette is everything. Personally I don't ever add a waist stay to my corsets because funnily enough they add pressure to my back in a way that tightening the corset does not. I can usually lace down to 3-4 comfortably, but I am swishy. Usually to add strength I will add a boning channel to the seams and it works. I wear my corsets to sew, and during the winter on a regular basis (an extra layer of warmth) and have not had them stretched or lose their shape. I also use mostly coutil. Bias Bespoke has a hunter green coutil, FYI. As for the room at the bottom. I would caution to remove it because it would make sitting harder. I don't drive, but I take public transport a lot and I appreciate that room to move. However, if that is not a concern, go ahead and take it off and shape it to the nines. I would love to see a batty bat corset shape in that color.
Thank you Yennifer! I won't be removing all the hip excess for this reason yes, being able to still sit is always good 😂
Lovely corset! Very wow! 🤞🏻🤞🏻for house hunting!
Thank you Lynne!
Hi, I hope that your travelling is or has been going well, and that you're one step closer to your forever house. I've never adopted a house, never wanted to, really, nor has my DH. Your mockup corset is more lovely than most of the real final products I've seen around Youtube, so not too shabby. I think Chartreuse flossing would look very pretty on there. Nice, quite unpretentious stitching befitting a mockup, of course. I have nothing on the lace. I usually don't fall for the polyester window treatment type, but it has to be a bit special for a cotton one, as it can be heavy. Maybe rayon lace. I know it exist. Unfortunately my last laptop crashed before I could save the shop to my Pintrest. It might have been in Germany or France. If you want to, I can look for it again, and as long as it costs less than $ 100, I could get it for you and send it in an envelope. That way you don't have to muck about with the whole customs hazzle. I'm almost certain that you can send person to person from here to the US "duty free" if it's under $ 100, as it wouldn't be commerce. Do you know what kind of buckram you have? I keep running in to questions about how sturdy it should midweight or heavy weight, and if it should be press on on one side or two, or neither. I'd like one that I can block, even if i see myself sewing too, when I'm up for it. I'm pretty sure know what blocks I want to get now. Just a few hundred years to figure it out. Now I just have to wait to see how this winter plans are going to pan out. If we're going to be somewhere tropical, at long last, for two to three months I will get them when we get back. I'm crossing fingers, toes, arms and mind for you finding your new home this time around, except one thumb that I will hold on to, as per my cultural custom. Sincerely Yours, Ann
Thank you Anne! I may just dye some cotton lace to match!
Absolutely beautiful! In regards to the bone channels in the middle of the panels: I usually like to treat my fashion and strength layers as one, and find that the extra lines of stitching on the mid panel bone channels helps prevent the fashion layer from wrinkling or moving separately. I generally add the mid panel bone channels after assembly (as you did) as then I can judge visually the best place for them: with bone channels to one side of the seam, the centre "balance point" is often just to the side of the middle of the panel.
Thank you Catherine! It makes sense that the stitching through to the outside on central channels helps the fashion fabric to stay smooth!
Perfection on you!
Thank you!
This shape is truly DEVINE!!! oh my gosh!!! If this is the mock up I think my brain will explode for the final look!!! Can't wait. Amazing work, as always :)
Thank you Eva! I'm excited to make the final (even more iridescent) version soon!
Fun times. Just FYI, if you ever end up with a busk that’s flimsy, you can back it with another straight steel to make it usable.
I just snapped up a few heavy duty bucks on Redthreaded clearance.
Lovely and inspiring. Thank you for making this delicious silk corset. Looking forward to the new home! Best wishes ❤️
Thank you Thomas!
Bonne chance!
This is STUNNING omg. The color really does come to life once it has been made into a curvy garment. Also wearing it you look like I dreamed of looking in high school, ie incredibly cool haha
Thank you Briar! The color was so meh until it got curvy, then it turned olive and I fell in love 😂
Gorgeous! I love the hip spring. Would you consider wearing this over your red full circle skirt? xxx
Thank you! I don't actually currently own a red circle skirt, I sold mine a few years back!
Good luck, hope you get to buy a house!
Thank you Jennifer!
You can get nice soft lace from Bra Builders.com dyed to match just about any color. I have been making bras for about a year now and their supplies are very nice. They are easy to communicate with and should be able to work with you to find the perfect color. Your corset is lovely! I love GREEN, all greens, it is my all-time favorite color. I especially love the darker olivey greens...It's funny, corsets seem difficult to me, I haven't made one in 40 years and I never had the appropriate supplies or tools, but bras, underwire, that is , are pretty easy for me now. I'm very happy now that I have created my own bra pattern, but I still wonder if I wouldn't just be happier wearing a corset all the time...I'd have to make a whole new wardrobe...
Thank you Julie! I am weirdly just not brave enough to attempt bra making 🤣
Not sure if you have an extra day with your travels and your passport, but if you do there are some AMAZING places in Toronto to look for olive lace! And I found out that one of the bra making gurus has a shop just west of Toronto that I REALLY want to check out. I'll keep an eye out for you - it'll give me a reason to go haunt the fabric district for a day. Darn. 😄
Everyone loves a good day in a fabric district ✨❤️
Oh... fine... I'll break out the (crazy, isn't it??) Coutil and start working on mine. It's only been sitting here for a year... or so.
We all know this feel 😂❤️
Awesome shaping on that Corset. you make that corset style look really good.
Thank you Janeal!
I love the color of the corset, and the fit looks really good. Very excited about the possibility of you finding a house in the upstate NY area! And right now the fall colors in the New England/upstate NY area are looking really pretty. Where I am we just hit peak color!
Thank you Emily! I shall certainly look forward to soaking in all the fall color each year! 🤩
We just spent a gorgeous weekend at Lake Chautauqua! The color is REAL. If it's not varied enough yet, I can vouch for the drive between Salamanca and Jamestown. :) I'm not sure where in the state you're looking. Toronto has some EXCELLENT color, too! Makes my commute a little brighter.
It looks amazing. I've never made a corset but I've watched a lot of videos of other people doing it so on the back of that I say mark the lines before sewing it together and if you add a waist tape put it under the boning channels. I hope you find a house and some crunchy leaves in NY
Thank you Ella!
Good Luck with house hunting! 🍀
These are real (and really cool) safety goggles, which I pull out for dying, soapmaking and cutting up large amounts of onions. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/apparel-and-safety-gear/eyewear-and-face-protection/glasses/70788-german-safety-goggles?item=22R7350. Once you find your house, set up your local po box and I can gift you a pair as a housewarming gift.
Those are indeed super cool glasses! I'm saving that link...
Amazing mockup. Love the color. I like that idea of using the screwdriver to get the steel bones in. FYI, shipping from Vena Cava is pretty quick to New York state for corset supplies. This year, it's a textbook Fall up here in Upstate NY with the changing of the leaves.
Thank you Kristy! I'm excited for fast shipping from NY suppliers yes 😂✨
Good luck! I hope you find the perfect place. ❤️
Thank you!
😍😍😍It's lovely! The color is so totally you! It’s giving me the itch to make one for myself. I made two already, one for a classmate and one for a bridal gown. Both turned out great. And Ihave the cotillion and steel boning, so what's keeping me? 😂
Thank you Diana! Time to dive in!
Fingers crossed for good things to happen in NY!!
Jealous. I have no waist!.
Oh! Look at your gorgeous shape! You beautiful lady! A trick I was taught was to sew the panel seams, then place the boning into the seam allowance, pin it in place then use my zipper foot to stitch it in place. That way you put bones in the seams as you go. Works for me 😊 Looking forward to your next iteration.iteration.l iteration. Hope the house hunting yields results soon ☺️
Thank you Sam! I found that having no boning in while adding the bottom binding saved me a lot of anxiety 🤣 Anything I can do to reduce my worrier levels is a treat ✨
