Early Access // Sequined Bodice Video ✨

Thank you for the love on Sanctus!! This will be this week's Thusday video over on the channel. I'm still slowly straightening up the sewing room, but I promise I went to the Denver Botanic Gardens this last weekend and that I will not work tomorrow either, as it will be my 33rd birthday 😅

I'm leaving with my family for a few days visiting my grandparents in San Diego this weekend, and when I get back it's serious house hunting time 🥵❤️ I should have the "armored" leather jacket video up next week!

Regarding large heavy rolls of drafting paper, I have a recommendation for you. If you have the space, mounting a bar underneath your table for hanging the drafting paper roll makes it really easy to pull the paper up and over when you need it. I used a long metal bar from the hardware store and a couple of curtain hangers to secure the ends. (Think a really big toilet paper holder). I can provide photos if the idea is interesting and a visual aid would help.

I do indeed miss the paper roll racks we had in fashion school and hope to have something similar once I put together a new sewing space. Currently the void under my table stores a large velvet bench and two totes brimming full of vintage Japanese kimono 😅✨

I love this bodice so much, in my opinion definitely worth every second you put in it (even though it was more than you expected)

T
The Closet Historian · July 20, 2024

Thank you! At least it's suitably sparkly in the end ✨

I had to channel my "inner Bianca" yesterday when I was altering a sleeve cap to add more poof. I remembered how I've seen you make them and it worked so well! So, thank you for the very helpful education!! ☺️

flattening the sleeve cap curve to make it stand out more ... this is the tip I needed for a lace-overlay sleeve that just flopped. thank you! I learn something from every video!

When wanting structure with lace, lining with organza might help as well!

Happy birthday! I hope you enjoy your richly deserved time off. This was one of my favorite garments in the Sanctus look book. I love the color gradations of the sequins, and the Art Nouveau-style curves of the design.

T

Thank you Laurel! I'm always admiring art nouveau swirls 🤩

Hi, Happy Birthday!!! I'm so pleased to hear that you took a vacation to the Botanical Gardens after Sanctus (yes, I'm teasing you a little). I also hope that you will have a great time in San Diego, and with House Hunting too. I'm guessing that you have enough videos saved up for us so you have a good chunk of time to go looking for houses. I hope that you take your time to enjoy the hunt. Hopefully you will only do this once in your life, so take the time to luxuriate in the feelings of doing this at long last. You deserve it, after all these years. I remember you talking about this even before you were famous😉😊. I don't know if I want to save this video until next week, or if I'm going to watch it a bit later. First I have to sort out having our car being taken to the shop, after the most absurd crime in our (DH and I) combined knowledge, and I worked as a Public Prosecutor back in the 90's, before the accident that left me mostly bed ridden, so I've seen some weird crimes. This one is a stand out, Dahlí certified one. Somebody thought it was a good idea to steal one of the wheels off of our very senior SAAB a couple of nights ago. Weird doesn't quite cover it. They left with two eye witnesses (not DH and I) and left the jack, with potential finger prints on it. Not that I ever claimed that criminals are the sharpest tools in the shed, but this is...!!? Also, why just one wheel? The car had four? Through the witnesses we know that the getaway vehicle was a moped for the two suspects, so that might answer the numbers thing, but again absurd. And again, not the brightest, and the elevator might not really go all the way up there. A Moped!!? Neither of us feel violated in the least, we don't roll like that (pun not intended), but it is annoying. It means that we have to deal with the insurance company, auto shops and towing companies etc. And we're leaving for a two week vacation on Monday. As I said, annoying. But never mind. That's in our life and not relevant in yours. So, as I previously said. Have long good time away from the sewing room, and enjoy the summer. Warmest Regards, Ann

T
The Closet Historian · July 20, 2024

Thank you Ann! I even went to a second botanical garden in San Diego, so much sun! That is indeed a very odd crime and I cannot fathom why anyone would need only one wheel, unless they had an identical Saab missing just one, which would be odd enough in itself 😅

I must admit, having the light coloured lining and interlining did make it much easier to see what you were doing. I love the drama of a tail coat, but this has the added bonus of giving you a lap blanket for sitting in too chilly AC. Seriously though, I noticed at 15:33 you didn't add SA at the collar of the centre back panel. Did you add it later, or was it not needed? And Happy Birthday!

T
The Closet Historian · July 20, 2024

Thank you Amita! I probably changed my mind about having a center back seam and cut it out with a 1/2 SA buffer instead of on the fold ✨

Happy birthday!!! 🎂 🍾 🥳 As usual this is stunning work. I learn a lot by watching your channel. Have you ever considered spacing big projects like this out into more than one video for your sanity? One on the pattern drafting and sewing, and one for the embellishments? It might give you more of a break to recover.

T
The Closet Historian · July 20, 2024

Thank you!! I have tried breaking videos us before and find that they just don't do as well unfortunately, even for costuming projects usually the seperate parts don't get near the same amount of views 😅
