New passing endpoints: air yards, ADOT, pass locations, and more
I've added five new passing endpoints to CollegeFootballData.com, giving you more detail about where passes go and how passing yards are produced.
The new data includes:
Air yards: how far the pass travels downfield from the line of scrimmage, including throws behind it.
Average depth of target (ADOT): average air yards across attempts with available air-yard data.
Pass locations: short or deep, and left, middle, or right, when provided in the play data.
Yards after catch: how much yardage comes after the reception.
You can access individual attempts through /passing/plays, passer summaries through /passing/players/season and /passing/players/games, and team summaries through /passing/teams/season and /passing/teams/games. Team summaries include both offense and defense.
A note on coverage: 2025 data is partial, with richer detail concentrated later in the season. From 2026 onward, coverage should be mostly complete as games are played, though individual games and fields can still have gaps. Aggregate responses include availability counts so you can see how many attempts contribute to each metric.
Use these endpoints to compare quarterback passing profiles, explore where teams attack, or separate passing production into air yards and yards after catch.
Thanks for supporting CFBD and helping make additions like this possible.
