The Spider-Lair: Evolved Is Finally Here, discount included!
New members, I'm offering 20% off your first month for the next week (Aug 8th)! Use code: EVOLVED
After a very long road, The Spider-Lair: Evolved is finally releasing.
Evolved is the largest and most complete overhaul The Spider-Lair has ever received. Nearly every major part of the world has been rebuilt, expanded, or replaced, including traversal, combat, enemies, progression, customization, multiplayer features, filming tools, locations, menus, audio, weather, and more.
Web swinging has been completely rewritten. The city now features a full combat and stealth system, new gadgets, bosses, open-world encounters, PvP, Zombies Mode, use for Spider-Coins, The Lair Shop, a redesigned headquarters, a new apartment location, and a completely rebuilt menu and tutorial.
There is far too much included in this update to properly cover in one Patreon post, so I highly recommend reading through the full changelog when you have the chance (found in our discord's news channel)
I also recommend replaying the tutorial, even if you have spent a lot of time in previous versions of The Spider-Lair. Many controls and mechanics have changed, and the tutorial will help explain the new movement systems, gadgets, combat mechanics, settings, and comfort options.
You can replay it by opening the Lair Menu and going to:
Info > Replay Tutorial
The world will initially be limited to 10 players so newer players have room to learn without becoming overwhelmed. This limit will be adjusted in the future.
New and Expanded Patreon Benefits
With Evolved, I wanted Patreon support to feel more connected to the world itself. Patrons already make the continued development of The Spider-Lair possible, and these new benefits give supporters more ways to leave a personal mark on the project.
$5 Tier and Higher: Skate Park Graffiti
Patrons at the $5 tier and above can submit custom graffiti artwork to be placed throughout the skate park.
These designs can be personal to you and do not have to be Spider-Man related. Once approved and added, the artwork will remain in the world permanently, even if you later change or cancel your membership.
$10 Tier and Higher: Custom Comic Books
Patrons at the $10 tier and above can submit an image to be turned into a custom comic book inside Evolved.
We will add the comic book presentation, optional text, and font selection. Once approved and added, the comic book will become a permanent part of the world.
Active $20 Tier: Custom Apartments
Active $20 patrons can submit a fully personalized apartment design.
When you enter the apartment, the room will automatically load your custom walls, floors, colors, artwork, decorations, and overall theme. Everyone inside the room will see your customized version.
When multiple eligible patrons are present, the apartment will display the design belonging to the patron who entered first. When that patron leaves, it will switch to the next eligible patron still inside.
Custom apartments require an active $20 membership to remain available. Apartment designs can also be updated within reason. Slots are very limited due to the technical requirements involved, although I may expand the available capacity when possible.
Full submission instructions for graffiti, comic books, and apartments are available in the artwork-submissions channel on Discord (You must have your discord and patreon accounts connected to see those channels!)
Additional Patron Benefits
Patrons will also receive two Spider-Coins for every one Spider-Coin collected inside the world.
Evolved also introduces Auto-Cam, a Patreon-exclusive PC filming tool that automatically chooses cinematic camera angles based on nearby enemies, objects, collisions, and active gameplay. It includes more than two dozen camera styles and works alongside the expanded Cinema tools.
These additions are meant to give supporters more ways to customize, film, explore, and become part of the world they have helped make possible.
What Comes Next
Evolved may be the final major overhaul of The Spider-Lair, but it is not the end of what I want to create.
I will be releasing a follow-up video that goes into much more detail about what comes next for The Spider-Lair, the community, and especially our standalone game.
That deserves a proper explanation rather than a small paragraph buried inside a release post. There is a lot I want to talk about, including what I have learned from building The Spider-Lair, what parts of this project will carry forward, and what the next stage of development will look like.
Expect that video soon.
Thank You!!
I genuinely appreciate every person who has supported this project, whether you have been here for years or only recently joined.
The Spider-Lair has grown far beyond what I originally imagined it could become. Looking back at where it started and comparing it to Evolved is honestly difficult to put into words.
I am incredibly proud of how far we have gotten.
This project has taken countless hours of development, testing, rebuilding, experimenting, and occasionally starting entire systems over again. Your support gave me the ability and motivation to keep pushing it forward.
I also want to give a huge thank you to everyone who joined and helped make the Evolved trailer possible. Whether you helped with filming, performed in scenes, tested features, organized people, or simply showed up when I needed extra players, you helped make the release feel like a real community moment.
Thank you for believing in The Spider-Lair, supporting my work, and giving me the opportunity to build something this ambitious.
I hope you enjoy The Spider-Lair: Evolved.
We made it.
