🕸 New Gadget Wheel in Spider-Lair Evolved – I Need Your Ideas!
Hey everyone!
Hope you’re all doing good! Thank you for all of your support. It means a lot and it allows me to keep working so hard for all of you, especially during these trying times.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on some truly monumental changes for The Spider-Lair, including full NPC and combat reworks, new physics interactions, new game modes and mechanics, and of course the NEW LOFT. I’m in-between a lot of things at the moment and I’m not quite ready to show most of it yet, since it all kind of needs to come together at the same time for you to really get the full picture instead of half finished bits and pieces. You can expect some huge reveals in the next few weeks.
But to hold you over, I’ve got a little spoiler and I could use your help. I’ve been cooking up something fun: a brand-new Gadget Wheel system, and I’d love your help filling it out.
🔵 How the Gadget Wheel Will Work
Here’s how you’ll use it in-game:
Hold your right thumbstick (downwards) to open the Gadget Wheel.
Hover over the gadget you want.
Release the thumbstick to select that gadget.
Then you can tap the same thumbstick to swap between your primary (webs) and your equipped gadget.
Portals have now been moved over into this system as a gadget, and of course web bullets live here too.
That means:
Primary: Webs (as usual)
Gadget Wheel: Portals, Web Bullets, + 2 empty slots
Those two empty slots are where you come in.
💡 What Kind of Gadgets I’m Looking For
The wheel is limited to 4 gadgets total, and 2 are already taken, so the last two need to really earn their spot. Most importantly: I’m looking for gadgets that are fun and useful outside of combat, not just “press button to hurt bad guy.”
Some guidelines:
❌ What I’m not leaning toward:
Example: Taser Webs – a classic “stun the enemy” idea.
It’s cool, but it doesn’t really change how you move, explore, or play in a meaningful way. It’s more of a simple damage/stun modifier, so I’ll probably skip things in that vein.
âś… What I am leaning toward:
Example: Trampoline/Net Gadget
Fire a web bomb that explodes into a bouncy net.
You can bounce off it, stick enemies to it, and use it to chain movement in fun ways.
It’s useful in combat and just messing around in the city.
That’s the vibe I’m going for:
Changes how you move
Opens up new interactions with the environment
Still has combat utility, but isn’t only for combat
🧠Brainstorm Rules
This is brainstorming and not a promise board:
Don’t expect your idea to be added 1:1, or at all.
There are no “bad” ideas here. Wild ideas can still inspire something that does make it in.
If you want to increase the chances I can actually use your idea, think about:
Traversal: Does it change how you swing, jump, climb, or move around the city?
Gameplay: Is it fun to mess with even when no enemies are around?
Simplicity: Can it be understood and used quickly on a 4-slot wheel?
đź—Ł Drop Your Ideas Below!
I’ll be sitting on this for a while as I test and prototype, so don’t be discouraged if your idea doesn’t show up immediately (or at all). Even if it doesn’t make it in directly, it might influence something later.
Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
