Great video as always Strider! ❤️
I didn't know Mrs. Butterworth was supposed to be interpreted as African American, in commercials I recall she always had a white lady voice. I didn't know she had gone under fire too. I always thought the rice came from Uncle Ben's Farm. Regarding Aunt Jemima, yeah...she...emmm...yeah that is a Mami Stereotype there's no denying that. I didn't know Eskimo was racist, I just thought it was an archaic designation, leanred something new. If they wanted to keep the theme without being controversial they could have called them Polar Pies maybe? Alliteration would make them more memorable than Eddie's Pies.
I liked when schools changed "sitting Indian-Style," to "criss-cross-applesauce." Sounds much cuter and something kids would like to say.
I completely forgot we used to say that in school! You're right. Criss cross applesauce sounds way better anyway 😄
Some of those racist terms are now used here in the United States by certain communities to refer to those of color who turn against the Black Lives Matter movement and are Republicans. It's quite disgusting.
I personally haven't heard of that before. But there is indeed bigoted people in both progressive and conservative communities. Though I have often have seen Republican-leaning people trying to paint themselves as victims. Though in my experience there is alot more room to be bigoted within a conservative mindset based in wanting things to be conserved in how they were in the 1930's.
I love it when you and other Australian creators I like (namely Drama Kween) upload in the middle of the night, bc that means this schmoe over here in California gets to see new stuff from you NOT in the middle of the night! :D Currently watching this as I eat breakfast. :)
Native American (or just Native for short), and Indigenous American are considered to be about equally correct and proper these days. "American Indian" was way more popular several decades ago as a descriptor for Native | Indigenous Americans (see the American Indian Movement of the 1970s), but has generally fallen out of favor bc it comes from Columbus's originally thinking he'd landed in India.
Yeah i was gonna comment it as well. I would use the word indian and american indian before to refer to indigenous people. Then i read about the origin and went "wow that's stupid" and stopped using it. It still blows my mind that thats where the term indian came from.
I bet this video was uploaded here as to not incur YouTube’s wrath.
YouTube has been pissing me off with their censorship. Some of the words that people say in order to censor themselves drives me insane! We’re grown adults, we can swear if we want to. It doesn’t hurt anyone
