The Graphic Novel is here (almost)!

I can finally share with you what I've been working on for the last ~5 years! The reason I've been so absent and hadn't posted in a while!

First things first, the book releases September 15 2026 and has 336 pages!

You can pre-order it right now in most big book stores or in my shop http://adhd-alien.com where I got some bundles to go with the book.

If my store doesn't ship to your country, check out the bigger book stores in your country - most should have pre-order options! If they don't you can try contacting smaller bookstores asking if they can order it for you. I'm currently working to figure out how to ship to more countries!

Ok now some personal yappin' about the book:
I'm still super exhausted from working on the book. Technically I could've still worked on my online content, but I was just way too exhausted after working on the book all day. I just really, really wanted to get it right and include everything important one should know about ADHD into one book. It was quite hard to get the explanations of how it feels, how it shows in daily life as well as the neurological explanations for it right and correct, while also trying to reduce the amount of text so that it fits into the panels and images. I've tried to come up with memorable visual metaphors to explain ADHD experiences and symptoms that are too difficult to understand with words alone. And once I've got that down...I had to somehow put all of that together into one long, coherent narrative haha. That was the hardest part for me, imagine taking all your wild ADHD thoughts and having to put them neatly into a line that makes sense from beginning to start - THROUGHOUT OVER 300 PAGES. I'm just happy I've had such an amazing Editor and Art Director who both helped me straighten out and underline the vision I've had for this book.

SYNOPSIS
Feeling like an ADHD Alien
Candid, comforting, and practical, this graphic novel is an endearing portrayal of the ups and downs of living with ADHD.

Kiki has always felt different from other people: She loses track of time, she daydreams when she should be paying attention, she questions all the rules and shows her emotions more strongly than her friends. But through trial and error (and error and error), she discovers her own ways to succeed and to connect with her loved ones. And eventually, she discovers a truth that makes all the difference—that she has been living with undiagnosed ADHD. Now, Kiki can get real help in managing her disorder and a new understanding of why she has been feeling more like an alien than a typical high school student.

Through disarmingly honest fictional anecdotes and enlightening interludes that explain the specifics of ADHD, Pina Varnel shares her own life experiences and hard-won knowledge.

(If there are any spelling mistakes, it's because I'm uploading the pre-editing files haha).

The cover:

Sketches of the cover:

Here one of many cover sketches that didn't quite fit, but I still kind of love:

And another one I did on paper, that was also kind of cute:

I'm ooking through some sketches for the chapters, and I'm getting emotional. Wow, not only have I grown a LOT, I also just realized how much I've really struggled to grow as fast and quickly as possible into being able to even write a whole graphic novel. I can just thank my publisher and editor for their endless patience while I struggled my way into knowing what I'm doing. I mean, look at these pages, look at how much I've grown since then!!! Even just the sketch quality has improved SO much.

And compare these sketches with the final pages:

Ok that's it for now, but I'll be back very soon with much more behind the scenes sketches and photos! If you're interested in seeing a particular progress of the book creation, let me know! :) I just really hope you'll get a lot of value out of this book.

I'm so happy to see this! I joined your patreon in the hopes that this would happen one day and am utterly delighted. Your comics helped me so much when I first got diagnosed, and then when my kid showed the same signs they were able to help her as well. I've already preordered. THANK YOU.

I am SO excited for this and so envious of having the combo of such massively patient, supportive, and encouraging people around you! Congratulations to making it to this next phase!! (You have a BOOK) (Also I do also love the cover sketch you shared of embracing the chaotic light) I've already ordered multiple copies, for myself and definitely for some very close family members who do love me and _try_ to be supportive but still don't really grasp the concepts.. (e.g. "Just make a list": logically makes sense when said in that moment, but I'm old enough to finally have to voice the reality that it's just _not_ the same in practice for me as it is for him) I was wondering, do the content on your posters exist in the book (as is, or in a close variation)? I have really wanted to order those for me or more even for them, but I have no place to put up posters and I know they wouldn't put them up since it's not their reality. Congratulations and know that again, I semi-squeaked with joy when I saw the email announcement!! 🥰🥰🥰

Congratulations on your book. I pre-ordered it. Both my children and I have ADHD and I've shown them a number of your comics and am excited for the book.
