Research: Quips vs Posts
Hi, everyone! Just a little post asking for your opinions and thoughts about the Patreon as platform.
Long-time supporters are aware that when I used to be active here, Quips weren't a thing yet. I saw that they're apparently intended for quick updates, and I believe the main benefit is the more granular update rate compared to posts, where we write more elaborate posts and deep dive in details when needed.
Funnily, the very first Quip I wrote, back on August 23, was: "So, this is a Quip. This is new for me, anyone can interact here?" ... and I still don't really know the answer. So I'm asking properly this time.
As you might know, I'm active on X/Twitter and Bluesky. What I post on those two is mostly the same, since I'm aware that people usually choose one or the other as the sole platform. The differences between them end up being the conversations that happen around the posts, not the posts themselves.
For some interesting (and proud =) ) updates, I decided to make some Quips as well. Here is everything I posted as a Quip since I found out about them and honestly, seeing it as a list is a bit of a surprise even to me:
Sep 11 — OPTIONS menu: pick your mouse speed and, surprise, the game's language
Aug 31 — mouse gestures: hold the left button and move around
Aug 30 — tax and funding menu, fully by mouse
Aug 30 — first look at mouse control: place tiles and scroll
Aug 30 — the nuclear meltdown scenario is now impossible to avoid
Aug 26 — mouse finally working... on Snes9x only, and why bsnes disagreed
Aug 23 — the decision to make two versions: SimCity Deluxe and SimCity SA-1
Aug 23 — my first Quip
What I'm currently thinking is: big releases and the detailed findings stay as "Posts", and the day-to-day progress goes to "Quips". Before I decide on that, I'd like to hear from you:
Did you actually see any of these Quips? In your feed, by email, as a notification or is this list the first time you are seeing them?
Do you prefer the small frequent updates, or fewer and more detailed posts?
Is there anything above that you would rather have read as a full Post?
Anything you would rather I didn't post at all?
Your feedback and thoughts are very important for me, so please share your thoughts and let me know -- getting back on track means adjusting to what work better nowadays and I know a lot of things changed in the way we view and spend time in general.
And finally, next posts will be SimCity SA-1 work continuing, and Super Metroid SA-1 has started moving. Thank you for reading, and for sticking around.

It's actually my first time ever hearing about "quips" but I appreciate pretty much everything you post. They are pretty much always interesting reads that gets ne excited for what you're working on. That being said, I don't really use the Patreon app itself. I rely on the emails I get in my inbox and then goes to check the posts. I'm really excited to hear you bringing up that Super Metroid is now booting on SA-1! That is definitely something I'd love to hear more about, either as a post post, or these quip things.
Same as RupeeClock. For example, I also missed the quip about Super Metroid SA-1 booting, which I have been eagerly awaiting.
I don't use the Patreon app, I rely on email notifications and the website for content updates, and quips seem to be extremely low visibility for this side of Patreon. If Patreon embraced Quips more as an equivalent to the social media posts on Twitter/X and Bluesky and a way to quickly share free tidbits, thoughts, and things that don't amount to a full update post or members-only content it could be a big boost to the platform and its creators. It could really help with users discovering creators that they haven't seen before, too. Great to see you're back in the game, I've been hanging onto hope for the Super Metroid SA-1 pack all this time, and very impressed with the SimCity feature and performance improvements you've achieved so far!
