Vote for Page 17.24

Cort and crew find themselves in a bit of a reset position. Their attempt to work within the Federation soured, however Cort believes he's found another trustworthy ally in fellow Starcaster-bearer Lance Major La'ni. His intention is to coordinate with her, and Quel, to combat the Dranglaex as free agents.

At the moment, they need a place to pause and figure out how to do that.

So which one won Tim? We can't tell!

I upvote this. Tim needs to end the suspense.👍

I missed out on the vote (lazy on email) but my call is to tap friends.

k
kwerboom · January 9, 2026

Voting's over. Still 50/50. I still can't tell which half is bigger.

k
kwerboom · January 9, 2026

6 hours left to go, 350 votes, and 50%/50%. What are the odds its a tie at 175 votes/175 votes?

D
Diogo Salazar · January 12, 2026

If it ended up 127 votes each, I will laugh so hard,

345 votes in, 3 days left to go, and 50/50. This is sure a tight poll. Lots of suspense on which option will win. Might be a photo finish. Though it does seem odd to me how Patreon's polling system works. I would think 344 votes and 346 votes would be 50/50 while 345 votes would be 51/49 one way or the other. You know with 5 being an odd number and all.

It just the rounding. If it's 173:172, then it's 50.1%:49.9%. Patreon's displaying it to zero decimal places, so both options rouns to 50%

Diogo Salazar · January 6, 2026

Lol, this one will possibly be decided by less than 5 votes difference.

305 votes and it's 50/50 again! For the record, I voted for the big city.

Just voted and still 50/50 lol

While it felt like Cort's friends might sway Janora's opinion the wrong way, there's also a better chance of avoiding catastrophical collateral damage if things go awry.

I vote for the registration scrub. They need to be able to land to places without telegraphing it to their pursuers. Bringing that trouble to their friends is... a dick move. So are we talking true friends or expendable acquaintances?... Also, anybody searching for them would be monitoring any potential safe places from their known past. So Niven feels like they'd be walking into a Syndicate trap. But a big city has more eyes and more papertrail, for spies to pick up their arrival.

J
Justan Robinson · January 1, 2026

I changed my mind - Niven is Speck's home planet

D
Dakota Blackwell · January 1, 2026

I feel that it's big city time. Friends is tempting, but Cort is in deep trouble with most of the Federation, and if there was any time for his "friends" to turn, now would be it.

I’m going with the smaller settlement and “friends” that owe favors. While the anonymity of a large city sounds nice as Speck said landing undetected is harder. Might as well just assume the Syndicate will know where the crew is the second the Aphelion shows up in the space over a large populated area. The whole point of going to a larger area is blown right off the bat. Also, operating in an area where the crew doesn’t know anyone, means they don’t know if the contacts they make are trustworthy or betraying them from the get-go. As for the smaller settlement, sure any “friends” that Cort and Speck know are probably skeevy as heck, but Cort and Speck know their “friends” are skeevy as heck. It’s better to deal with the knife to the back you know that’s coming than the one you don’t know to see coming. Also, it sounds like Speck knows Niven and knowing the lay of the land is an advantage considering that Cort wants to contact the Federation, the Syndicate is on the crew’s tail, and Dranglaex are a constant threat.

Hm. You're giving me pause to reconsider.... but I'm still sketched out by sticking out like sore thumbs in a low-populace area. I'm not confident the syndicate is much to worry about after the last time they failed the Drangs, and boss man had to pack up and leave to try to avoid getting killed..

Bryce Maryott · January 1, 2026

51/50 with 200 (or so) votes. Yeah, this one is gonna be close. I feel like there needs to be a third choice, but I don't know what it would be.

k
kwerboom · January 3, 2026

The third choice was stick with the Federation. But since that option was taken off the table, this is what we're down to. If we hold on by the skin of our teeth and the seat of pants at the same time, this might just work out.

M
Michael Unterweger · January 1, 2026

Ah, fun. 50/50. I'm excited how this shakes out.

P

200 votes and a full deadlock! This is wild!

Adam Vogini · January 1, 2026

Disappear…yeah contacts can help, but they can hurt too. Just disappear in a big city and breathe for a minute, and less worry of ppl knowing you.

S
Shawn Spencer · January 1, 2026

TBH....without much more context these don't feel like real choices. Like, how much federation presence is there any each planet? A big city might have tons of federation, where as a small settlement might have zero federation.

k
kwerboom · January 3, 2026

For me, this is the most real kind of choice. Most of the decisions I make are made based on an incomplete set of information, with fingers crossed, and only by the proverbial "grace of God" does anything seem to work out.

J
James · January 1, 2026

I'd like to know what kind of contacts Spek has. He's overdue for some background character building.

D
Daniel Thorne · January 2, 2026

This comment swayed me. Thanks.

P
Peter Eduard · January 1, 2026

More possibility for characterbuilding in a small settlement.

J
Justan Robinson · January 1, 2026

This feels like a 'who do we want to shoot at us' choice The syndicate will probably be after us on the smaller spot Also, these 'friends' - are they really our friends? Or will they rat for reward money?

B
Brian LaBonde · January 1, 2026

Go get help from those that owe the favors, but don't tarry. Get the help, say thanks, and then leave plausible misdirection as to future directions and plans, and get outta Dodge (City). Maybe make contact with Quel before leaving just to say "Hey, we're okay, will make contact soon. Be ready."
