Monday Update #31 | Progress and Thank you.

First of all a big thank you to all my Patrons. I was a little bit distraught the other day and your answers really got me back on my feet. Hearing things from your perspective helped a lot. The next update will be v0.3 and I think I can manage to release it in about two weeks.

Everything new:

  • A few new backgrounds were added.

  • Lot's of new dialogue and progression.

  • Changes to the players skin to make it more "lively".

  • The first scene is finished. It features two animations of which you can see the first one on Twitter.

  • I added 3 new Items and began to lay the groundwork for a new system that let's you increase your stats through fighting monsters. (There won't be much of that in v0.3 though.)

  • Put in a hardstop to make it impossible to accidentally skip animations.

  • Changes to one of Mia's sprites to make it blush a bit.

Not much to say at the end. I am gonna take a look at the grind and see how I can better communicate what the game does and maybe I'll soften the very early game a little bit.

I think that will be the right approach to make it more beginner friendly and still keep the learning curve intact that makes MIST into an actual game. I am sure I will find a solution.

*Put in a hardstop to make it impossible to accidentally skip animations. At last! Many events have this problem. This usually happens when you check "Transitions" option to ON.

Yeah, this is a weird one. I already have a hard pause (That is literally what it is called in Ren'Py) for a few seconds at the beginning of every animation. But apparrently that doesn't work for some? So for the next update I've included a break that permits you from using the skip function during an animation aswell. That transitions are an issue is very good to know. Thanks for that info.

One possible way to address the grind could be to add a choice of easy mode at the start of game - the cabin has a pantry full of canned food, so players start with 100 food or so. I don't feel the need for this, but apparently some (a few) people do.

A good idea. Don't know yet if I'll do that, but I'll keep it in mind.
