RMLP Chapter 299: Three Men (Part 1)
“Ah. Ah.”
If a player is over level 90, they can handle an ogre alone just fine.
Especially if they possess god-grade items.
But Christine was a non-combat class with not even a single offensive skill.
Among players, that meant her body was no different from a regular person’s, so it was only natural for her to panic.
‘W-what do I do, what should I do?’
So panicked that she was frozen like a statue, she didn’t even think of running away.
Her feet finally moved when the ogre let out a beastly roar.
Kwuooooh!
Christine ran into the forest without looking back.
The ogre's roar, intended to intimidate, ended up scaring off its prey instead.
Takatakatak—!
Christine ran while only looking forward.
She didn’t have the leeway to look back, nor was there any need to.
Thud— Thud— Thud—!
The approaching sound of the ogre’s footsteps sent a chill down her spine.
‘What do I do? I-it’s getting closer.’
Though she ran as hard as she could, outpacing the stride of an ogre over three meters tall wasn’t easy.
Thud— Thud— Thud—
The sounds grew louder, and just as its shadow loomed large enough to swallow her—
Kwuoaaah!
The ogre stretched out its arm to grab her head.
But then—
Tuhng—!
Its arm bounced back from a barrier, repelled with counter-force.
Even its massive body was flung more than 15 meters away by an invisible force.
It was thanks to the god-grade armor Christine wore, [Wings of Eros].
[You have blocked a fatal strike.]
[Usage count: 1/2]
[Each use has a 12-hour cooldown.]
Even though the message popped up, Christine had no time to pay attention—she kept running.
Not without thought, though.
She used trees for cover and moved through narrow paths where the ogre would have difficulty entering.
But that didn’t matter—like it was mocking her, the ogre smashed through the trees as it chased her.
Crash— Crack—!
Kwuooaaargh—!
Terrified, Christine quickly opened the quest progress window.
‘I—I need to request help from a nearby player.’
If she wanted to survive, she had no choice but to rely on someone else.
Fortunately, at the top of the list, there was a player just 150 meters away.
She confirmed their nickname and face and used the tracking function.
[Face and nickname match. Tracking target’s location.]
[Located player “Seonbi.”]
[Current distance: 148 meters.]
[To track the target, follow the visible arrow.]
Having someone nearby to ask for help was reassuring, but Christine’s expression remained dark.
She had let the ogre get close again and taken another hit.
[You have blocked a fatal strike.]
[Usage count: 2/2]
[All uses consumed.]
[Cooldown for recharge: 24 hours.]
Now, if she got caught, she would die.
That made her run with every ounce of strength she had left.
But with poor stats, it was hard to create distance.
“Huff, huff, huff…”
Thud— Thud— Thud—
Even after flinging the ogre 15 meters away, the gap was closing again.
Is this the end?
That thought came when the ogre’s shadow loomed over her once more.
They say you see your life flash before your eyes when you die, but that didn’t happen.
Only one person came to mind.
‘Black Scythe-nim…’
Kwuooooh!
The ogre’s hand reached to rip her head off—
Kurgh?!
The ogre’s voice sounded strange.
It was either panicked or like it was choking on phlegm.
In the meantime, she had kept running and gained considerable distance.
‘What happened? Why isn’t it chasing me?’
Curiosity got the better of her, and she looked back—to see the ogre standing still.
‘Why did it suddenly stop chasing me…?’
Unable to understand, she stared—and then noticed something glinting in the ogre’s neck.
It was a knife.
A small knife had pierced through its neck and was sticking out.
Thud—!
The ogre collapsed forward, revealing who had stabbed it in the back of the neck.
“Jeffrey?”
Jeffrey pulled out a dagger the size of a forearm and looked at Christine.
“Whew… That was close. Anyway, good to see you, Christine.”
“How did you get here, butler?”
Jeffrey wasn’t one of the nearby players.
So how had he closed the distance and appeared so suddenly?
“You weren’t on the tracking list. How…?”
“That’s because I used Invisibility. If you use Invisibility, it shows as untrackable, so you drop off the tracking list.”
“Ah.”
She hadn’t known that.
Maybe that’s also why Black Scythe couldn’t be tracked?
Christine breathed a sigh of relief now that she was safe.
“Phew, thank you for saving me. I really almost died.”
“Glad I made it in time.”
“Really, how did you appear with such perfect timing… Wait, were you following me while invisible?”
Jeffrey didn’t deny it.
“That’s right. I’ve been following you in an invisible state since the round started. I didn’t expect you to be in such danger, though.”
“Why were you tracking me?”
“Black Scythe-nim ordered me to protect you.”
“Black Scythe-nim?”
Surprised at first, Christine’s face soon brightened.
She hadn’t expected Black Scythe to care about her.
As Jeffrey casually brushed off his clothes after killing the ogre, his expression suddenly shifted.
“Christine.”
“Yes, I felt it too.”
Someone had entered the range of their presence detection.
At first, they thought it was another ogre, but seeing them approach in a group made it clear it wasn’t.
‘Humans.’
