Apothecaria Novel

I have been kicking around the idea of writing and publishing an Apothecaria novel but I'm unsure if me putting out something "official" would make some people's own worlds feel somehow less valid.

What do you lot think?

This would make an awesome kickstarter project.

For my own witch's story I've simply called it Alenya's Adventures: An Apothecaria Story, so I think it would be enough to add something like that like Joshua has said, to escape the more "official" feeling of it?

I think it is fine, but if you are worried maybe phrase or note it as being: "A story made with my personal version/vision of the Apothicaria journaling world. Just one of thousands."- or something to make it clear your setting isn't meant to be the canon that people should stick with when playing.

I feel I should comment just to really drive it home that this would be a "for fun" project. I just felt like asking here as Patreon is perhaps the most active of the communities asides from Discord which has no Poll function

I don't expect that it would overshadow anyone's personal story or make them feel second-string. But don't burn yourself out! You know better than any of us what you do and don't have the capacity to add to your plate. <3

But have it as a side project. Don't let it get in the way of releasing other content.

I have always considered the ability to replay this just that fact that my last witch had something happen to then and I am just the next in line. Whether is was as mundane as the moved to another town without telling anyone or were sucked into another dimension when the wrong ingredients were added at the right time. A novel would be just that, your witches experience in this shared world at that time.

Go for it, but make it a collection of short stories instead of a single novel. Then, even the official witches are each just one of several official stories. That fosters an environment where many stories are valid.

I also like Sarah's idea of it being a prequel - a "before the events" novel.

I say go for it. Maybe have it almost as a prequel. The original village witch before she disappeared. I agree also with Tales, don't burn yourself out.

100% this will be for fun :)

My story has diverged so far from the original prompt that with some tweaks and edits, I'd consider it fair game to publish as my own work. So I'm not a good judge, but I feel like it wouldn't take away from it. I have just been re-reading Becky Chambers Wayfarers series, and I really want to write/play a story set in her world, not using any of her characters, just her settings and world building. I feel like the framework is delightful and there is so much to expand on. And while your idea is sort of the inverse of this sentiment, I think it would work equally well.

My story now centers around the relationship of the witch to the tavern, and a group of young adventures who keep getting into scrapes and need rescuing.

I say Go For It - but don't burn yourself out!

I was thinking more as part of the narrative but that would also work! I know *we* know it's only one part of the apothecaria universe etc., but I guess it's just for people who haven't encountered it before to break the idea of it being canon somehow (unless that's what you're going for).

I think it would be good to phrase it somehow as one of many possibly apothecaria stories not "the" story, and then yeah it's fine.

Like a little bit at the start of the book explaining where it comes from and how its just my interpretation?
