[Cherry Waves] Exploring! π
Bringing you a glimpse of the past today cause I stumbled upon these while making my Cherry Waves work "gathering" and well, I think it's worth mentioning XD
You might recognize these drawings! As I'm refining the characters and preparing everything for the new sheets, I'm not only referencing materials from other sources, I'm also analyzing my past work and experimenting!
So here I wanted to go over these sketches I made for Josh, and tried to make it feel more like him, applying the things I learnt about technique (and test my new brushes, the new style... etc!) and about myself as an artist on the way. This is actually an amazing exercise to see your progress and understand your art better (as long as you do it consciously and in moderation!).
I don't see the point in re-doing stuff that is just bad or doesn't feel right to you and doesn't work. So yeah, don't do it. π In those cases is best to keep experimenting and move on- It's fine to "fail". That's the point of learning and exploring, it's part of the process. You' get better by knowing what doesn't work. IT'S EMBARRASSING, but necessary. I'll regret this, but enter:
*(In my defense I'll say I drew this at night after a long day in bed, in almost complete darkness, but still... π₯² I'll elaborate another day, cause that was a part of my magnificent plan to overcome overthinking!).*
YOU CAN LAUGH OK. ಑β Νβ β Κβ β ಑
While I don't think it's wise to re-do something over and over again just out of perfectionism (yeah I'm working on it xD), for me personally, it's very useful to analyze past work to see what's working and what's not! I like to see WHY a drawing it's rubbing me the wrong way, and how I would go about it with the knowledge I have now. That knowledge can be objective as in, technique, anatomy, etc. OR (and I think this is very important) subjective, meaning what doesn't feel right to me because of personal style, preference or comfyness (?)!
And hey, sometimes there's stuff that just doesn't look good or polished but for some reason you love it, that's how you know it has potential sometimes! And... you never know! These random ideas that came in the middle of a Starbucks escapade became very real later on!
Orrrr....
Mia wasn't even there at first! It was just Kyle and Josh. And the scene became 10 times better after! Sometimes you just need some time to pass to see things more clearly, or get to that point where you can pull something off as you wanted.
ANYWAY, I just wanted to send some love to all of you that are learning or are feeling frustrated with something you want to do. Good things will come! Enjoy your process, enjoy your fails, laugh at your derps when you can. There will be tough times yeah, but believe me, it will be worth it. β¨
ILY GUYS. See ya tomorrow :3

You're to good
This is so cool and comforting to see π I've been trying to really improve my art recently but I keep feeling like I have to relearn how to draw every time I pickup a pencil. I very much tend to redraw the same thing over and over again until I'm happy with the result. It's bad, but it's so hard not to xD Just gotta keep working at it I guess.
It's so nice to see where you came from and how it'd going now! To see that the great artists started with scribbles as well! Love how the random doodles became important keypoints in the story! Its a great way to remind ourselfs that practise makes perfect and to just have fun along the way and that everything doesn't always have to be perfect! Love and hugs back π«
