Elvira with Eve Lindley
Who’s afraid of Cassandra Peterson? In this bonus book club episode, Hollywood correspondent Eve Lindley revs up her fog machine and takes us on a journey through the prop tombstones of the 2021 memoir “Yours Cruelly, Elvira.” From her teen years spent as the youngest showgirl in Vegas through her tenure as the sometimes maligned and ultimately beloved Queen of Halloween, together we’ll worship at the feet of our Mistress of the Dark. Digressions include devil worship in the beer aisle, train hobby shops, and the ghosts of Carrie Bradshaw’s past.

god i hate tom Jones now
Is there any way to share the photos mentioned? I’ve been looking online but not sure which ones are right
I have a tattoo that says "Bimbo Juice" inside of a cartoon juice box, and I was totally validated for getting it after listening to this intro hahahaha
Thank you for doing this episode! I did not know much about her and WOW what a story! A new special interest may have just been unlocked.
Ok I am fully going to cry. What a story. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with so much love.
Considering the recent events, I'd love an episode about Volkswagen. I want everyone to know about how they were the OG car maker for a certain tiny mustachioed idiot's army, how they nearly died out as a result, and how the only reason they survived was due to an ad campaign with the word "Lemon" above a beetle. I think Amerocan companies should be well aware that their survival depends on their branding, which is correctly defined by Ogilve to be more public perception than logo placement.
omg happy birthday elvira
Sarah i am so hoping to hear your take on the Ryan Murphy Ed Gein series, the trailer just came out and I couldn’t believe how he was being portrayed, such an insane but inevitable end result of the true crime industrial complex i would love to hear your thoughts
I had no idea this was happening! Nooooooo
Wait, so Manhattan KS gave us Elvira and Bridget Everett? WOW
my aunt and uncle had a life size elvira in their trailer that they would dress up for holidays and put in their window. they treated her like a little ceramic goose lol
I was so excited to see this memoir come up! I ran and listened to the audiobook before listening g to the episode. What a great memoir!
Am I the only one who thinks a Debbie Ryan Elvira would be kinda iconic?
i screamed at the kiss! thank u eve lindley and sarah marshall 🥰
This was simply delightful (minus learning that Jimmy Page was shady with Elvira……as a Led Zeppelin fan, I did giggle snort when Eve asked, “do you know who Jimmy page is?”). I can’t wait for the next Sarah/Eve book club episode!
I am also Shockingly depressed about “and just like that” being cancelled lol
Omg. I love me some Eve❤️
I am so ready for the Eve Lindley podcast where she covers every biography/autobiography of every woman celebrity ever 🤩 (and Sarah is the standing guest, of course)
Loved this! I will definitely be throwing her movies into the rotation this spooky season!
White Russians in the big Lebowski.
The first Elvira movie has one of the Dream Warriors in it.
If anyone is interested in Vampira (Maila Nurmi), Lena Dunham and Alissa Bennett did an episode on her on the C-word. They used the book Glamour Ghoul by Sandra Niemi. She was fascinating and had a pretty tragic end to her story. She received nothing for creating the character of Vampira and died in squalor.
And Vampira predates the Addams family show, but not the original comic strip. Vampira should get credit for creating the look first in real life.
This was wonderful; thank you!
My favorite memoir episode hands down! Thank you so much for this lovely episode.
Looking forward to the listen; she showed up in the Pee Wee Herman documentary recently.
I’m so glad to have context for Elvira that isn’t just learning that a friend’s dad used to call me that when I was a 15-year-old goth with huge boobs. We didn’t really have Elvira in Australia, so I had none of the context for her being actually funny, just the awareness that a grown man was commenting on my body when I wasn’t around. Steve, you were real weird.
I grew up in southern California, and remember seeing Elvira on channel 9. It was one of the channels that didn't have "new stuff," but wasn't public access either. I think they eventually changed their call sign from KHJ to KCAL, roundabout when I migrated to the Midwest and stopped paying attention.
Omg can we get “Bimbo Beat” merch??
I feel like she caught so much flak for her cleavage because she wasn't the sunshine bimbo. How dare a woman dress to cause boners (which is the only possible reason any woman would show her cleavage 🙄) and be brunette AND wear all black! Female sexuality should only exist in the context of what men want, which is the sunshine beach babe happy bimbo.
Stealing a second comment to say how much i appreciate Eve's insight and thoughtful compassion. I didn't think this show could get any better and then Eve became a regular. Much love to the whole team.
I’m devastated that the world missed out on that Elvira/Katherine Helmond show. IMDB says they cast Phoebe Augustine (Ronette Pulaski from Twin Peaks) as the niece, but can you imagine if they went for the quick-witted redhead trifecta by casting 18-yr-old Alicia Witt? HEAVEN.
Wow wow wow wow. That's fucking tragic. I share your devastation.
this is so topical for me i just saw mistress of the dark for the first time
Not to brag, but I also drank White Russians as a teenager. During my parents very brief, slightly regrettable 'cool parents' Phase. I was told the milk helped you not puke at the end of the night bc it 'coated your stomach' lol. Which is absolutely bonkers sounding lmao. But can confirm, tastes like milkshake. (There's also the lesser referenced Colorado Bulldog. Which is just a White Russian with a splash of coke for some reason)
eve lindley discussing fellow sexy women is my favorite podcast genre
“ a bimbo is a person who has not done something to absolve herself from the sin of being a woman” That is so beautiful
Loved this! You two should do a movie review of Blonde starring Ana de Armas
You’re wrong about book club, my favourite time of year
The point of Ms is that it can be used regardless of marital status and doesn't automatically provide that information the way Miss/Mrs do
I went to a signing when this book came out and she was SO lovely.
Hi I'm 12 minutes in is it possible to get specific trigger warnings? Also is it the rest of the episode as a whole that covers these triggering topics or just a section? Thanks
Hi! I’m 35 mins in, so far I’d say TW for burn injury, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic assault
TWO HOURS of you two lovely women talking about another lovely woman is ✨incroyable✨
