Late to the party - been traveling all day and binged all these Britney episodes. Eve where have you been all my LIFE. What an amazing series. Crying in the club (my parents house in Florida lmao) at the wrap up to these. I’m 29 and my first music that was my own was a few of Britney’s songs on ‘clip its’ - idk if anyone knows or remembers those. I wanted to be her so badly I would steal my baby brothers shirts to fashion crop tops for myself. Thanks for sharing her story here <3
Now that Kevin's memoir just released, I want Sarah and Eve to book club it and tear that guy apart. 😆
Eve mentioned another Britney podcast that she loves but I can’t remember the name of it and can’t find where she mentioned it 😫
'It's Britney Bitch'!
eve very seriously saying “that’s why 6 is *afraid* of 7” always makes me laugh whenever I revisit this series, and then also everything else because eve is amazing and I love this series
I feel like we need a You’re Wrong About about the history of the 5150
This series is a wonderful meditation on the complexities of girlhood and womanhood and also paints a picture of Britney Spears living in a Kafka novella. And these are kind of the same thing.
I work as an advocate for people with developmental disabilities and severe and persistent mental health issues that pose threats to the health and safety of themselves and others. A lot of these folks are under court-ordered adult guardianships or conservatorships. What baffles me about Britney’s conservatorship is that a judge and a court-appointed special advocate should have been monitoring her situation to ensure that she was not being exploited. Not to get all litigious, but I feel like she would have real cause to investigate the judge that oversaw her case. I smell something fishy there.
Great mini-series! I think a lot of millennials are at a point in their lives where they can replace, or get for the 1st time, the treasures from their childhood. Unlearning the expectations of others is another huge undertaking.
I can't remember which episode in this series mentions it, but I saw the Make America Great Again Britney, Lindsay & Paris T-shirt in the wild today and I had to tell someone!!
Dying at Glinda the Good Witch catching a stray
Again, thank you for doing this. It's a huge deal, and it makes such a difference to hear y'all say actually conservatorships might be bad, even with the best of intentions. Anyway, thank you for this.
I really wish I knew why the end theme of YWA makes me so melancholy. It's every time.
Britney choosing not to dance with her hair feels like the embodiment of "never the less she persisted"
Sarah I am begging you to please recreate a self made Britney twirl vid stat
I have loved this series. Love Britney, she owes us nothing
Never thought I'd tear up at an attorney's comments, but her lawyer being the only single human giving her credit and recognizing her strength... It broke my heart.
Episode suggestion: Madam C. J. Walker
Listening to this and then seeing Justin Timberlake arrested for a DWI 👌🏻
What tour? The WORLD TOUR😂😭😎
I’m half way through this final episode, and my feelings on Britney have evolved - in a matter of days - from a kind of uneasy admiration / bewilderment, to… something much more like love, and a lot of anger on her behalf. Every time you rescue the story of a witch-hunted woman, some of the world’s more benevolent magic clicks back into place x
Dear Lovely Sarah, Would love to hear the Sarah Marshall treatment of the current attack on no fault divorce and the so-called "war on men".
Listening to Immigration right now and my God, Sarah, this is radicalizing stuff. Alejandra is an astounding guest and I would be glad to listen to her on any topic at any time. God bless you both for world-dreaming us towards something better.
I think there is a large and generally unspoken presence of the evangelical church in Britney's conservatorship. Evangelicals believe that women belong to their fathers unless they are married, and then they belong to their husbands.
Eve Lindley can be my conservator at any time--I feel like that would have my life work a lot better.
I just visited a 13th century monastery in Portugal where people gave their daughters in religious/political sacrifice (and handily avoided paying their dowry)
Could celebrity be analogous? A way to control rich women?
All of this is making just appreciate and love Doja cat more.
When you started talking about her mental hospital stay and her friend in there with the cigarettes, i started tearing up. You never forget those girls you meet in there. 💕
I really hope that Britney has a good therapist and some real friends! That amount of isolation and for so long is heartbreaking and I can’t even imagine the impact on her. I agree with Sarah and Eve that I just want to feed Brit some cheeseburgers and take her to go see any movie she wants!
Eve's "surprise" killed me
Thank you Eve and Sarah! What a wonderful, lovely series. We are all so grateful for your thoughtful insights and beautiful storytelling
I went to the circus tour! Britney was incredible, the circus performers were incredible, and the pussycat dolls opened for her! I was 14 and definitely felt like it was her ‘comeback’ after everything that happened in 2008.
I have absolutely loved this series. I love Eve and Sarah and Britney 💗 This series also made me super sad though, its both the story of a unique experience that many of us can't relate to as we are not pop stars with the world watching, but also the story of an experience that so many women and afab people can relate to. Being perceived every day by men who shape you with their own desires and selfish needs, having your power diminished in a million ways every day by the patriarchy and also just living through girlhood and only in your later life having the information and frameworks to understand the ways in which you have been impacted and your opportunities for taking some power back. I think for Britney it was a slow realisation through growing up and having access to ideas, having a supportive fan base who rallied for her! For me it was people like Sarah and Eve and listening to conversations that helped me understand my life experiences in context. Its a long journey to empowerment but I am so greatful for all the women/femmes in this world and the love and support we can share with each other 💕
WHHHHOOOOOOOOOO IIIISSSSSSS IIIIIIITTTTTTT?!?!?
I don’t understand why multiple heads didn’t roll over this. The attorneys involved should have been sanctioned if not disbarred. This adult woman was being forced to work for someone else’s benefit (God knows not her own). There’s a word for that. On a more positive note re late-bloomers and next acts, I’m marrying for the first (and, hopefully, last) time at the end of this summer at the age of 57. I plan to live and learn for as long as I’m breathing and spend as much time as I can listening to brilliant and insightful people younger than me. Which is why I’m here. Hopefully, after taking some time to heal, Britney can hit her stride in the coming years, whatever that looks like for her.
Congratulations 👏🏼🎉
1:27:00 I've been on lithium and been in several psych inpatient stays, weekly blood testing is fairly routine in my experience. Psych meds can do a number on you even at routine dosages, and lithium in particular needs to be monitored to make sure it isn't accumulating in the blood over time Though in outpatient, I was having my lithium checked monthly, or 2 weeks after a dose change. Inpatient dose changes were definitely more aggressive. I'm not on lithium anymore, now another mood stabilizer, but I still get my blood checked every 3 months or so to check tabs on my liver and kidneys. Also, y'know, non-Rx drug testing...
Loved the episode (as alwaaaays)! I read the book, but Eve did a great job of contextualising everything and giving a lot of extra information (looooove the Britney legends/theories) and I dieeed when they were discussing Beyoncé and Britney (cause Im a huuuuuuuuuuuuge fan of both!). And I think it is very interesting that Beyoncé was able to get a year off as at that time HER FATHER was also her manager (and I think she fired him after the year off)!
Is Eve's audio glitchy for anyone else? Or just me?
Thank you!!! I needed this today lol ✨
Someone needs to sample Eve saying "Let's get straight to fucking" in a song
It would do numbers on tik tok
I knew the conservatorship was abusive, but it was so much worse than I realized. How terrible to have family steal your autonomy that way.
Anyone else have to turn the volume WAY up to hear them speak? I haven't had that problem before
glad to know it's not just me!
I feel overwhelmed at at having new maintenance phase, you are good, and you’re wrong about bonus episodes on the same day 😍
I could listen to y'all talking about Brittney Spears together for a VERY long time without even getting slightly sick of it.
The way Eve talks....I could just fall the fuck in love with her
Eve Lindley is a national treasure. More please!
Not to be a negative nancy but is this episode super quiet for anyone else? Trying to play it out of my phone while I clean and I feel like I can barely hear it :( Genuinely wondering if it's just me.
The intro music was much louder than the dialogue, so guessing something is off. But with headphones it was 👍
I am at a time in my life where I needed to hear a trusted source remind me it ain't over and I can still change. So thank you for being there with good words right on time. You helped a sad heart today. ❤️
This series has been so fantastic. I suspect the blood tests were to find out who was malleable/sycophantic enough to not alert her to her rights.
I think they’re used to monitor liver function
I’ll never forget when my mom saw Britney in vegas, it must have been in 2013 or 2014, i was around 15 and i remember my mom saying “she totally sucked. she had no energy and the performance was lifeless, she was awful” and i remember having such an intense reaction of sorrow hearing my mom be so cruel to britney bc she felt like she didn’t get her money’s worth of britney the product. even before knowing anything abt the conservatorship i still felt in my bones that something was wrong and hearing my mom talk abt britney that way just broke my heart 😭
I immediately looked up “Passenger” when it was mentioned. That definitely does not sound like real Britney 😳
so extremely Pittsburgh that Sarah’s first point of comparison for the popstar industrial complex was US Steel 😂
I’ve been waiting with baited breasts!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
can't wait! I didn't know hardly anything about Britney before this series. now I feel like a Britney expert 😎
Right as I’m putting my pup’s harness on for a nice long hike. Thank you for your service 🙏
Just in time for an hour-long drive. Woo hoo!
Great Blackadder reference 👌
Came here to say that!!! 💜
Yay!!!
