Howdy folks! To celebrate 100 episodes and close out Deus Ex Week, we‘re doing another Ask Me Anything bobus episode just for you, our Patreon subscribers. how did each of you guys meet each other, and how did your friendships eventually evolve into a collaborative youtube channel and later into this podcast? origin story time
I recently listened to the Heavy Rain episode and was pretty surprised by the recounting of the story. I remember more or less liking it at the time, but I was even less able to critically analyze a game than I am now. What are some other pieces of media that you were surprised to have liked at the time? Where there any specific instances where you became aware of yourself falling away from beliefs you thought you held due to a negative reaction to a piece of art?
I grew up in a pretty conservative home and tried to read Atlus Shrugged in high school. I got about 3/4 of the way through before I declared, "this is fucking stupid" and dropped it. I'm now a communist. So thanks, Ayn Rand?
How do you decide what things to make episodes about? Are you ever worried that you’ll run out of ideas?
This might be a tad old school: Have you ever played the 1999 RPG classic "Planescape: Torment"? If so, what is your opinion of it?
Where would each of y'all say your current spiritual or religious beliefs lie?
If you look at one of their other, MAs, they talk about this, I think. It was interesting.
Do you boys think Pier-Paolo Pasolini's murder was a Gladio type of thing?
what do you guys read? articles/books/audiobooks etc. last good read?
any fondness for graphic novels?
Is there a piece of media which you really enjoyed, which was later ruined by an adaptation or a remake which changed how you felt about the original source material?
For context: young high-school stage crew Chuck was really into Stephen sondheim and Sweeney Todd (listened to the revival soundtrack nonstop) and was extremely excited for the Tim Burton adaption...and then it came out and kinda ruined the whole thing for me
What exactly constitutes a fancy movie because there are are bunch movies that I would recommend but probably fit into the category of drug film (holy mountain, fantastic planet) looking forward to 400 blows
Fun fact I wouldn’t have been born without adventures in odyssey because my parents met as camp councillors and they put AIO on to put the kids to sleep
My musical theater exposure has consisted of exclusively Andrew Lloyd Webber (bad), Lin Manuel Miranda (not good), and Sondhiem (transcendtly good). What are some other good writers, movements, or shows to learn up on to better understand this art form I'm a bit at odds with?
I was trying to figure out how to ask “can y’all please justify liking musical theater” tactfully but you beat me to it
If I really like Deus Ex, what's another piece of art in any medium that's worth checking out? Bonus points if it's off the beaten path.
The Kult divinity lost pen and paper rpg is good if your looking for something with conspiracies and camp horror
Are you guys still on Tumblr ? I feel like I sent to many asks. 😭 Also what was the first album you bought with your own money?
My question for you guys is, what are your favorite bands? Mine is Fleetwood Mac. Great mix of songs both fun/catchy and haunting/melancholic. Dreams is forever goated as the kids say.
