Gotta say, I wasn't exactly expecting to hear Rip and Tear in the middle of a TWOAPW episode.

I didn’t skip ahead but the relief I felt when this episode was early in the rotation! Castles & Cauldrons terrified me so much as a child - I didn’t play any ttrpgs until I was in university and I hold so much resentment against focus on the family for making me miss out on my own personal childhood stranger things experience
What’s really insane is that Jimmy owns lightsabers!! He forgot to bring them in the first family vacation episode, and the weird kid they’re staying with says “oh I don’t play with laser swords, but we can play David and Johnathan instead” (which let’s be real is code for kissing in a treehouse). And speaking of treehouses: Diglett Dugtrio has Jack and Oscar play knights with him when he first builds Wonderworld! With wooden swords! What’s the fucking point of demonizing this cousin?? I mean, aside from the fact that the subtext is clearly that Len is molesting Jimmy and the dnd stuff is a metaphor

Funfact, Gary Gygax and his wife were Jehova's Witnesses and were so devoit, they didn't celibrate christmas. The satanic panic around the game caused them both to be driven from their own church.
I had no idea Adventures in Odyssey was ripping off Doctor Who. Though if the Tardis regeneration explosions weren't in the original run then Doctor Who is the ripoff.
I bet these people would have been really torn about the White Wolf RPG, Hunter: The Reckoning.
