Episode 3 - Whit's Endless Summer
Hello friends. Here's our first premium episode. Also the first of a series where we explore Adventures in Odyssey, Focus on the Family, and the history of evangelical entertainment.
this time, we subjected A.J. to some of the first and worst episodes of Adventures in Odyssey, introducing him to Whit, Tom, Connie and everyone's favorite denizen of Campbell County: Patriotism.
The episodes we listened to were:
#4 - Connie Comes to Town
#5 - Gifts for Madge and Guy
#7 - Promises, Promises
#19 - Recollections
#28 - The Price of Freedom
If you want to find these episodes, they're floating around the internet in a few places. There's a comprehensive torrent out there that has every episode (and then some) all the way through last year. Feel free to suffer along with us!
And as always, we welcome your feedback.

Re: Promises, Promises Dr. Dobson literally wrote a script and procedure for spanking your kids. My parents used it verbatim. So, like, it could have been worse, because he advocated for things like: 1. Make sure your child understands why they're being punished 2. Only strike once, and only on the bottom 3. Let yourself (the parent) cool down before you administer the punishment; don't just haul off and hit your child in anger. That being said, it was still hitting your child. 🤷♀️
There’s a Bendigo in Victoria, Australia.
Well I have little else to do for this long weekend, so may as well start over.
Why does David Harley sound like evil stupid Bernie Sanders?
@Andrew Hackman you and me both. Just hearing that Adventures In Odyssey theme music brought a whole lot of memories roaring back that I had apparently blocked out. My family definitely went through a "Christian alternative entertainment" phase where most of what we'd listen to in the car was radio shows like this, Left Behind audio books, or Christian Contemporary Music
I subscribed to this Patreon just to listen to this episode. For some reason, my family *only* had these tapes and the Recollections episode has literally followed me all the days of my life. Thank you for doing this and for helping with the long, long process of unpacking my own childhood the funniest way possible.
Love you all!
also… I got the “Disciples” play reference! Weirdest fucking play I ever saw… I seriously thought there was LSD in the stage fog! Also loved the Dalick joke, also Brian - weren’t you in Godspell? (My first Kennedy Center Award for the Dramaturgy posters!”
Thank you, Jesus! I didn’t have to grow up with this crap, guilt, whatever! Hahaha! You poor things!
