It’s a relevant topic but i can’t finish the episode. I find him so scary and evil that hearing his voice makes me ill
Oh you best believe we carry the flame
Finally someone talks about Kirk as an organizer, not just a speaker.
I mean thats just David Hayter
I turned myself in on Professor Watchlist several times. Two of my colleagues in the English Department serve as the faculty sponsors for TPUSA, and I hate it. There are certain episodes of y'all's show I don't listen to because I know they'll make me too upset ("Hurt Locker" being one). This one was a hard listen, because I'm so sick of fascism, but I felt like it was necessary.
Also, I cannot get over the part where JD Vance connects Charlie Kirk’s death with the birth of their child, it’s almost like he’s trying to make it sound like a prophecy or commandment from God or something. It seems obnoxious.
The intro and outro to this episode are amazing. The intro is almost like the end of Assassins, the part where Zagara speaks Italian… At least until elder TikTok cuts the tension and ruins it but in a weird way fitting this show. And the outro actually did say some profound things about death, I really do Hope we all live on in the stories people tell about us. As much as I probably disagree with Erika Kirk about everything, I hope she doesn’t “crack entirely” I think that would be kind of awful. This is such an interesting analysis of the aftermath of a death and the legacy after.
Wild first listen after subscribing lol. I'm off to hunt down the final fantasy episode and maybe the sweatbox for dessert. Happy twelfth night of kirkmass yall
My mum a white boomer in Australia wept when he died…. To say we have no shared reality anymore is an understatement
I absolutely love that the LLBD song blared in my ears just after Brian's amazing outtro
i love when yall fuckin Preach in the outros. standing in my living room with my eyes closed palm raised rocking back and forth listening to the podcast on my Anker Soundcore Space Q45 headphones and brian goes "Douse. The flame." and im in the back hollering some shit like "That's right !" or "Speak!!" or something. not really but i will say when i started typing this the goddam accent came out involuntarily, plus those are my headphones. Amen
So I have a kirk story both 4 years BK and 11 months AK. The 3 years BK one was that I, a recently out trans woman on a alt account on twitter, did the funni meme where you have a slightly smaller than usual faced kirk and a text that goes "dear Liberal if your so smart why is my face so tiny" or some shit and then kept on quote tweeting it with increasingly smaller faces, because it was like covidish times and musk hadn't really brought twitter yet I did get scolded by some of those people who are way too specific about precieved slights and they were like "well this is body shaming kirk and that's wrong" and I was like "what are you talking about the man's fucking evil, and this is a very stupid joke". That account eventually got banned for I think saying cis? Anyway the 11 month AK one was I was doing my job and I brought drinks to this table with young people and sometimes you just kinda catch people's phone backgrounds out of the corner of your eye it happens and I had to do a double take because these lads had a slightly smaller faced kirk as their background for WhatsApp. I had to be like "I'm sorry is that a charlie kirk background" and they burst out laughing going "yup" I then sorta went "that's incredible, you know before he got it in the neck I posted that one online" I should have chosen my words better I didn't entirely realise what I had said but well certainly words I used. It was after that point where I sorta realised just like how much the American right is seen as a joke over here. Great episode lads!
Man think I remember that exact thread you're talking about. Got a good laugh outta me then and now, remembering it
AJ'S Horst Corner(it's just the corner we make him face the wall in)
I wish I could post photos in these comments, but Charlie Kirk getting killed was mixed in with the best five days of my life where I got engaged to my partner of 8 years. We were in the smoky mountains and one of the gift shops in Gatlinburg had an RIP Charlie Kirk sign right next to a labubu. My fiancée took a photo of me kneeling next to the shirt with my thumbs up, and the shop owner glaring at us through the window. That day the world lost a horrible piece of shit, and I gained a life long Kirkentine
Damn, I wish I could see that photo! That's amazing! I have a permanent Kirkentine myself, given that the fucker died on my 9th wedding anniversary. We just celebrated our 10th!
The Amazing Digital Kirkus
Idk how I haven't heard this one yet
It was a grande Mint Majesty with 2 packets of honey, i know this because a friend of mine worked at Sky Harbor on the night of the funeral when half these psychos were flying back to their home states
Sorry did Ezra Klein quote John green’s the fault in our stars in his Charlie kirk eulogy
A friend of mine's family literally cut ties with grandma because of how virulent she was about them deciding to not PUBLICALLY attend the Kirk memorial. They still streamed it, she was just that mad about them not literally showing up in person. My friend changed her name because she was named after that grandma. Anyway that's how I learned my friend is the daughter of a relatively famous gospel composer. We don't talk so much anymore
It had never occurred to me that I might not have ever actually seen the entire Zapruder film, and wow yeah I hadn't, dude was a gusher
Aaaah so I had avoided the huperkurk (but for one thing) & I feel reality tilted. I feel a bit like someone who has stared into Nyarlathotep's spankbank. I got goatsed with his face looking at me through the cinnabar eternities & i keep trying to memory hole it but it keeps showing up in my memory palace as a picture down postcard I am haynted by some hypersiligated [sic to suc] hellthing
See the man is becoming an egregore. They did some evil sorcery by accident & like paint yourself a catseye light a sparkler, & say the words & there will be a pop as the bulb goes out. The joke is poorly said it is not "door" it is "the other one" which means it might be the eye or the ear. It is also contemporaneous with an understandable funny: Never not once has this not been true, that a new wife breaks wind when bouncing on her husband For palette cleanser ill recommend the only complete novel we have from Antiquity: Apuleius's Metamorphoses or The Golden Ass It is bawdy & funny & it looks at how awful humanity can be & how small is our comprehension of the world.
I was actually one of the first ones among my friends to know Kirk had been shot. I work in an archive at a university library, and my colleagues were hosting a class. They were coming out of the seminar room for a tour of the archive, and one of the students happened to check their phone and shouted, "Oh shit, Charlie Kirk's been shot!" I can't lie; I smiled a little because I've been familiar with this worm's work for years. But there weren't even headlines about it yet, my friends' group chat wasn't lighting up, so I thought maybe it wasn't that bad or it was a fake. I went to class afterwards and everyone was talking about it, then by the time we took a break he was gone. I felt nothing in particular except some anxiety over how the right would attempt to use him as a cudgel. My numbness turned to anger as I saw people try to whitewash his legacy, as people lost jobs for merely *quoting* him. One of my friends who grew up in evangelicalism, his sister posted something about how he, "was literally just a dad." I was enraged by this constant evoking of Charlie Kirk as a family man who now won't get to see his kids grow up when the last thing I remember him being in internet cycles for was that Jubilee (I think?) video where he said if his daughter as a child was raped and became pregnant that the baby would be brought to term. I hate that he's pervasive now, in some ways, because a lot of people (mostly people of color) faced real consequences for simply pointing out who the man was before it was "ok". But at the same time, there's a part of me that appreciates the pathetic joke he's become after dying, because that's all he, a man who breathed bigotry into his very last breath, should've been treated as in the first place.
The opening was definitely a fine example of empathetic storytelling, from describing like a coroner might, the forensic play-by-play of Kirks body, to mistakenly describing ElderTiktok as a person experiencing a trauma response instead of him being a man so destroyed by the cynical avarice of media influencer hustle culture that you can't tell if he has a soul anymore.
I heard the cat!
Prestonwood is the same church with the huge Christmas show with the flying drummers a few years ago. My wife used to call it "Six Flags over Jesus."
Top-notch interstitial this week. Professor Watchlist as a character is fucking hilarious
Charles Entertainment Kirk
The hat grabbing is deeply monks at Canterbury with a meddlesome bish
As someone who lives in DC and occasionally visits Congress for activist stuff let me tell you that most Republicans STILL have CK memorial posters outside their office doors (often next an Israeli flag...yuck).
Great intro, the bouncing between each other reminds me of the podcast 'Midst'. Would love to hear more play by plays in this style
I'm so sad the clips did not include his opinion on whether we should be doing public executions in front of children
non-joke comment i really appreciate the closing speech. kirkposting always felt really grim in a way i couldn't place despite both hating the guy (though a lot of these freaks are interchangeable in my mind) and seeing some really good posts after the event. part of it was the snuff aspect, and part is it just felt like a black hole. some jokes & trends are a lot of fun, and some just feel like black holes.
The thought of saying only online people knowing who Charlie Kirk was before, or that older people didn’t know who he was is so counter to how I found him. Early pandemic times I was living with my grandmother. It was through the constant and prolific TPUSA mailers that she received, I first learned about the guy.
Being too young to remember 9/11 (and also not in the US), the only thing that feels remotely similar to me (and yes I spend too much time on tumblr) was being online when Queen Elizabeth of England died. (I was also going insane with exams at the time). That had the same level of online vs offline disconnect for me that the Kirk assassination did. A less serious but much funnier version of Kirkification though is of course the Mishapolocalpse on tumblr (and subsequent SN memes).
On a completely different note, yes I did notice the one James Tiberius Kirk slipped in there thank you guys! (And also I’m SO MAD about it being the same name because I get excited and then realise it’s the other Kirk)
ya best protect ya neck
I remember watching the live stream of Jan 6th. It felt really similar to watching 9/11.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. It felt so similar. I was like, "I'm watching something fucking horrible and it's going to affect me in ways I can't fathom." With 9/11, it was me joining the Army as a misguided way to process the trauma of that day. With J6, it's was living under fascism.
Umm actually, liquid snake is not solid snake’s clone, they’re each clones of Big Boss, who is also their father
(guy who cares a lot about MGS voice) not what happens in those games
[Somewhere in the evangelical version heaven right now] Charlie is prancing through a field of flesh composed entirely of the billions of unborn babies that all went straight to heaven. Each step illicits a shriek of agonized rage from innumerable mouths; but there’s nowhere else to step.
"forgive them, father, for they *not know* what they do" Am I crazy? Surely it's either "they DO not know" or "they KNOW NOT", so she either missed the "do" or got the words in the wrong order, but I can't find anyone pointing this out so I can't tell if I'm the one who's wrong here. Plenty of people online writing what she said with the mistake, but no one pointing it out
There's something deeply cannibalistic about the Right. There is no real comradery or friendship, everyone is out for themselves and will turn on each other as soon as it benefits them, or use each other for their own goals. They are only bound together by mutual privilege and grift.
It's not brainworms one has to fear. It's the prions.
Banger episode♡ Its so intresting how Kirks death lets you see who on the right was ready for a martyr (rip knowledge fight) and those who seemed genuinely upset about seeing a man die in 4k. Social media probably did alot to make Kirks death widely seen and then turning it into the kirk-ening that we know
i had not heard the trump helicopter clip im dying
I hate how literally every time you hear a random clip of Trump you know it's going to be really funny.
Out of all episodes this was not the one I thought would have a kasane teto feature
the intro was fuckin masterful, incredible stuff
but do you have the blueberry budget for this?
God damn that intro was a rollercoaster. Also MGS episode incoming???
