Kill James Bond! is a comedy film review/ pop culture commentary podcast about the portrayal of masculinity in cinema. November Kelly, Abigail Thorn, and Devon have watched Bond movies, War on Terror movies, Eurospy movies, and now they take on their biggest task yet: Heist Movies. What can Heat, Oceans’ 11, and the Fast and Furious movies teach us about how masculinity was imagined by the people who created them? What does that say about Society? can we talk about how incredible eleanor is
That was an absolutely perfect Norah Jones impression
oh my god, wait. a training montage in a video game that uses the language of film more than games...son of a gun, they did it! they succeeded where david cage failed utterly in beyond: two souls!
this is all i wanted
Mass Effect 1 had the best overall narrative. Mass Effect 2 had the best character driven moments and gameplay. Mass Effect 3 had two or three good hours scattered throughout
Alpha Protocol mentioned. I am howling. I am banging on the window demanding November talk about it for three and a half hours
"All of MI6 got blown up and we have no agents" is a plot beat from Johnny English.
Wiz Khalifa if actually the head of the Pennsylvania Secret Service.
so that norah jones gag may as well have been laser targeted at me bc as soon as i heard the first bar of the song, i was already laughing helplessly at the idea of a norah jones bond intro.
I don't know for sure but it seems you like having Devon and November on as much as I like it, so hopefully that means more of them guesting in the near future. Like if you played Deus Ex Invisible War and talked about how crazy it is for literally all the endings of Deus Ex happening at once makes for a kind of confusing experience.
Stephen Fry played gay uncle Q in Alex Ryder
Alright with all of these metal gear references I feel like we need an episode on the only good James Bond movie: Metal Gear Solid 3
Finally the queen returns. This episode matched my experience of playing it in that I couldn't think of any nice to say by the end of it either. I reinstalled hitman though.
Can't wait for the full filmed version of this interstitial I think that it's a mixed bag of a game. Overall I enjoyed it, but the very ending was real annoying in that it switched from "use your wiles and shenanigans to escape the chaos" to "you must use the electricity gun to kill the robots and if they touch you twice you die".
the Uncharted music every time you referenced it absolutely got me every single time lol
Picked this up (well, installed it off our steam family library after my bf picked it up) the other day, too intimidated to have ever gotten into Hitman and with only cursory knowledge of 007. Listening one bit at a time as I'm progressing through levels, I'm currently having an overall fun time but can definitely see how a lot of this game would chafe against someone with less pedestrian tastes in stealth games than myself. But that first in-field gun battle? I genuinely don't understand how that shit made it past playtesting and QA. The sheer volume of enemies, lack of cover and ammo scarcity would make it remarkably punitive for a final showdown, and this is the *first* time I'm asked to set up speed dates between live ammo and skulls?? All while the game is screaming at me to not let 009 get away, but as I'd figure out after 16 failed attempts, the correct solution is to hunker down where there's still cover and take my time making sure to wipe everyone out, because leaving a single hostile alive when you make a run for it all but guarantees you'll die because they can hit you with SMG bursts across the entire airfield like they're Simo Häyhä if you're not behind cover on normal difficulty??? No, literally. When I finally adopted the "assume the timer is fake and wipe everyone out" method, I ended up with one guy left because he was hiding between three cars too far away for my last remaining bullets to effectively blow one up, figured surely *one* won't get me and ran, but then he deigned to pop out and absolutely did put six perfect shots into the back of Bond's skull. Fortunately at this point I'd gotten close enough to the plane for a new respawn point past the whole gunfight, so it was effectively a win anyway. But good lord am I glad the second gun battle I've engaged in wasn't nearly as much of a stacked deck, perfectly average cover head clicking I can meet where it's at.
Malta mentioned
I need nova to find herself bestowed an Imago camera used only for that style of photography
Also, going straight from hating on the silencers to how unrealistic the magic soap dart phone is was peak. Absolutely beautiful work.
There's random conversations and documents you can find that clear up quite a few, but not all, of the missing plot beats y'all mentioned. Biggest one in my mind is a folder on Damien's desk about his mother's death, hinting that it was a very suspicious suicide by overdose, and that Damien has clearly pored over and analyzed every single line of it.
Oh my God, who did the Norah Jones impression? It's really good.
I loved hearing Double-O-Devon.
Suwg We
I need a bond movie where everything is the same except bond is Devon just doing whatever they want
E trytj h s
The Prisoner episode when?
Is "Jame Bonds" the mature and older James Bond, or is it just a mispronounciation?
It's a reference they make a lot, I'm not sure where it comes from but the structure is basically "Singular noun, but more?" "Ah yes, the nouns plural"
Is that DEVON?
She's back!
Devon drive-by in the interstitial was perfection.
Regarding the transmasc wrestling: it is said that men like to wrestle and fight because it is a socially acceptable way to get physical touch; also, that more men take martial arts than dance because they require the same kind of attitude and interests, but they are gender coded. I wonder how those things work on a transmasc perspective.
It's hard to describe the excitement I got seeing the notification for this podcast + subject + guest combo
Is that fucking Devon?
“Instead of thrusting in the sand, I’ll catch cummies in my hand” -Norah Jones
Unexpected Devon in the Interstitial lol 2/3 KJB in one episode. Fantastic episode over all, had been looking forward to you talking about this game since its release.
ECHO is a great game! Unfortunately the PlayStation 4 release seems to consistently crash at the same location on my PS5 and blocks my progress about 75% through the game. Since the developer shut down, it won’t be patched.
Good episode but wished you SCUMed this bond
Now I realize Devon is the perfect next Bond.
I fucking love listening to November ( and all three Joshes ) talk about video games
I recognize that voice. It's 00Devon!
