I'm convinced games like kingdom hearts have endured exclusively for two reasons: the mental illness known as Disney Adults, and a concept that Google AI thinks it's called "Cherished Scarcity" - you could only afford the one game, so you got the one with Goofy in it, and built core memories around it because that was the only option in the limited gaming time you were allowed

Our dad bought us a PlayStation 2 and Kingdom Hearts but also had no idea about the memory card necessity, so our first weekend with the game was replaying the opening over and over and seeing how far we could get before someone forced us to turn it off. I think we got to the Olympus Coliseum once or twice.

Having never really interacted with kingdom hearts except knowing that it exists, this episode feels like an acid trip.

I have never played a Kingdom Heart and I never will, but I do recommend watching the recently completed Chip and Ironicus Let's Play of both Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories instead of actually playing - ChipCheezumLPs on YouTube

in the 2000s i accidentally bought a japanese ps2 (was trying to get an american one because american games were cheaper than australian ones) and that lead me to buying and playing thru japanese kh2 (i dont understand japanese) snd i think that did more to ruin my life than anything else.

I cannot enough recommend Birth By Sleep for the KH heads, it's a genuinely excellent JRPG on it's own merits. It's also the cleanest and most straightforward presentation of lore the franchise had ever managed.

I please need you to cover the rest of the games purely because Brian's love/hatred/obsession makes me feel deeply seen.

AJ's the biggest freak in the world for playing Proud Mode. Critical Mode in KH2 sure, that's respectable, but Proud Mode is a joke mode meant to send 10 year olds to hell forever

Kingdom hearts has been to me the platonic example of "writer making shit up as they go along with zero respect for the past and zero respect for their audience" -i think if they went the super smash brothers cutscene route of having no dialogue and just visual storytelling It would make a hell of an improvement, and I won't have to hear the incessant words "hearts" and "darkness" rinsed into total meaningless as they pretend it's the most dramatic meaningful shit ever neither lol

if you repeat the name david boreanaz enough times to the "become as gods" song from nier automata I'm sure something happens
