Submit questions for our next AMA!
Hi all,
Josh is back in the USA and no longer has a play to direct, so we're back to full strength. Those of you who are subscribed at the Pangloss tier may have noticed that we missed a Ladscast last month owing to the absolutely terrible internet Josh had at his lodging in Edinburgh; thanks for your patience and we'll have a new one out by the end of this month.
Alongside that, to give everyone another nice bit of #content, we're going to record another Ask Us Anything episode! The last AMA we did was all the way back in June of last year and we've grown a lot since then. If there's anything you've wanted to know, ask away in the comments and we'll select a handful of questions to answer later this week.
Thank you for your support,
Cool Voltaire

You did an entire episode on CCM and DC Talk's Jesus Freak album specifically. What's your read on the (quite damning and horrific) Michael Tait allegations and what they say about CCM as both a business and culture?
When are the worst guys going to FINALLY watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer? For Brian, what episodes would you make the lads watch to understand the show?
what's everyone's go-to when you're creatively constipated? like, what do you do when you feel like you've forgotten how to create, or you're just spinning your wheels? my go-to is a specific movie (Kiki's Delivery Service) and i'm always interested to hear what other people do when this happens.
Hello lads! I would love to know each of yours dream musical to both direct and be in (whether same or different answers). Also, as a huge fan of your interstitials, I’d be curious to hear your takes on various “crossovers”, like AIO meets sorkin, left behind by Fincher, etc. Cheers for such great work!
I just finished relistening to a podcast about the Heaven's Gate cult and I started thinking about how many cults have a base in Christianity, any theories on why that is? Is it the proliferation of Christianity or the ease of how apocalyptic someone can get with a scripture or something else?
Dear lads, Thank you for all you do. As someone who has listened to every episode, spread the word among the Jeopardy alumni community, and subjected a select few to Whit's Endless Summer specifically, I appreciate what you do and wish you had been acting when I was so I didn't always have to hang out with the tech kids and make fun of my castmates. If you ever need a black and/or punk rock and/or Hamptons correspondent, let me know. My question is: regarding the houseboat (apartmentboat?) on which you record, is it more bargelike or yachtlike? How many stories it it? Would you be subject to NYPD boats, or would Hoboken's strict anti-jokin' policy be enforced should their cops find the pod? Forever yours, Stevie
Which episode would you do again if you could, and and which episode would you erase forever if you could?
In a recent episode, (I believe animal crossing?) you brought up earlier plans to cover OMORI as a video essay. I don’t know if you ended up doing anything around that, but have you ever felt guilt/heartache about something in a game that you, the player, never did?
What do each of you appreciate most about your other cohosts' creative talents and sensibilities?
Did any of you lads get into any Bullfrog games? There probably isn't enough going on story wise in any one of them to have an episode around it, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
A few friends and I have recently picked up the habit of performing short plays purely for ourselves, little things one step above table readings. For instance, we had a joy doing the 'play within' scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream around a campfire. It's been hard to find material though as none of us are connected to theatre or acting. Do you have any recommendations for resources for finding short plays, excerpts, etc, or anything in particular you would recommend we try playing out. Bonus points if they are free or otherwise easily accessible.
What is the funniest thing that happened during a production of a play?
When’s the Homestuck episode lads? Alternatively; are there any subjects or series that you are very interested in covering but simply can’t due to their length?
IMO homestuck is way too big and complex for a single episode. You could dedicate a podcast to homestuck and its ramifications!
Have you ever considered doing an episode on veggie tales?
Given that you've covered Frank Peretti, have any of you gentlelads also had the misfortune of reading any Ted Dekker? But–more importantly–have any of you had the tremendous GOOD fortune of seeing the film adaptation of his magnum opus: Thr3e? If not, I feel like y'all owe it to yourselves finding some time to track down and cover the fundie "horror" "film" that tried to combine Saw, Se7en and Adaptation. It's an absolute dogwater dumpsterfire, that I'm proud (/mortified) to've had my sheltered, homeschooler mind blown away by back in the day.
This is to everyone: What is your biggest fear regarding the near future? Alternate question: How did you guys initially get connected to Joe Kassabian and the Lions Led by Donkeys crew?
Using your insider knowledge of film and theatre, can you explain how War of The Worlds (2025) was released and Batgirl wasn’t? Surely people involved in that… production realized it was awful. Is it just inertia; the need for a paycheck that keeps a production going in that case? And if you end up as an actor in a play or film that seems to be so devoid of artistic merit, do you still try to give it everything (like Peter Cushing in all the b horrors), or is there a point where you just phone it in?
1. Fuck-marry-kill for Garrett, JC Denton, Alan Wake 2. When are we getting a review of some of Estus Pirkle's batshit crazy baptist films? 3. Any funny/memorable/unusual stories from your days as immersive theater performers that you want to share that you haven't already? I've always enjoyed hearing about what it's like from the other side of the curtain in random episodes.
If you could all be in a play or musical together, either with all of you acting or maybe one of you directing, what one would you want to do? Maybe Brian could film it with a hyper specific type of camera? Also, since I just saw Sunday in the park with George last week, what are your Sondheim dream roles
With the caveat that if you run long enough, you’ll talk about everything, are there any pieces of media that you believe you’ll never cover even though they fall in the TWOAPW wheelhouse (ie games or movies you feel like have been talked about enough already, certain subject matters, etc)?
Josh, when will you finally get Brian and AJ into baseball?
I have a driving job that puts me in New York City every couple of weeks or so. (Wow, what a night and day difference congestion pricing made.) In the Animal Crossing episode A.J. namechecked Dos Toros, and because he did I'm having lunch at the one on Court Street as I type this. Any other recs for a takeout lunch around town? I'm most consistently in Upper & Midtown Manhattan, downtown BK, and Astoria
Detroit: Becoming Human episode when? I'm dying to find out if prejudice is bad. Follow up question: Fuck Marry Kill the David Cage Trilogy
I second the first part of this question. Detroit is a guilty pleasure of mine and I can’t wait to hear you guys laugh at it.
You have the power to play one song in the heads of every person in the world at once. Everyone hears it as if they are hearing the song irl, and everyone eventually realizes that everyone else is also hearing it. What song do you choose?
How would you hypothetically pregame food / drink to leave an appropriate deposit at the Jimmy Dobson memorial bathroom?
Would you consider doing an episode about the videogame Immortality?
As a former stage crew worker, I want to get some love shined on them. Who's your favourite crew member, or favourite moment with the stage crew?
How do you get in to directing specifically for the stage? I read True West for the first time after listening to the Buried Child episode, wanted to adapt it extremely badly, and realized I have no idea how to go from 0 to 1. P.S. I think this is the most excited I’ve ever been for the Wild Card Series
Congratulations! You've been chosen by the Jim Henson Company to direct their next major motion picture! The catch though, you can only do an adaptation of a non-musical play you've covered on the pod. What do you pick and why?
Clarification: You have to use the classic Muppets cast
When snorks
Bibleman when?
Have any of you guys read any Graham Greene? I’d love to hear your views on the role that his faith plays in his work and in particular his focus on faith as a site of struggle
Would you please consider covering the Focus On the Family Theature production of Squanto? I remember liisteniing to it often as a young christian kid growing up in very rurals northern Maine. I remember it having good foley work, but knowing what i now know FotF makes me doubt my memory on it. It covers Squantos kidnapping by the English, his rescuse by spanish Catholic monks and his return to america to help the pilgrims before becoming christian.
Hey guys! I became a fan after you had Justin Roczniak on to talk about walking home in a straight line. I have listened to the whole podcast twice since then and still cannot tell you guys apart. This is not a criticism. My only question is, “AJ, have you heard of Uma Musume: Pretty Derby? If so who’s your favorite horse?”
Religious question: AJ and I were raised Catholic (I’m still Catholic) Growing up after leaving my Catholic bubble I experienced the “American prejudice” against Catholics by Protestants and fundamentalists alike. Josh and Brian: what was your experience of this from the other side of the fence? AJ how about you from the Catholic side? AJ I’m 12-13 years your elder but we went to the same high school. I’m a Uni alum and also had to read Cold Sassy Tree 😜
I grew up in a small, devoutly Catholic pocket of coastal SC. I was verbally & emotionally abused by *many* Evangelical parents of friends for my (then) faith. Id actually like to dig into this issue further
One other question. Does liking the musical/movie Chicago make me a basic normie?
I loved the Stop Making Sense episode. Any plans to do more episodes about music/bands? I’ve always thought you guys could do a great episode on LCD Soundsystem. Or maybe something like the Facebook episodes about blog house or various MySpace bands Also what music are you guys listening to right now?
I am a big Coheed and Cambria sicko, and I would give my left kidney for The Lads to cover it, but... there's so much of it now...
Slings and Arrows season 3 when?
Are any of you familiar with the artist Florence and the machine? Her new song/video Everybody Scream is a huge mood
Also what are your thoughts on the musical Hair?
What if any are your thoughts on the elderscolls series and their decline, perceived or otherwise. Josh do you consider the eldrescolls games to be “immersive sims” why or why not? All, khajit or argonian?
Given that Evangelicalism has demographically totally collapsed since rhe 90s, which Adventures in Oddysey characters would no longer be Christian? (Ignoring 2000s canon).
As a life long atheist, who was entirely disconnected from the evangelical world until I learned about it in college, whats something you need to understand to really GET that culture?
What is the objectively worst song that you absolutely love?
- worst first date movie? - can any of you hit the high note in Gethsemane? - favorite comic/graphic novels?
If the fourth wall is the one "between" the stage and the audience, is there a specific name for the wall between the stage and backstage? This came up in a meta discussion of TTRPGs: If the characters address the players, it's breaking the fourth wall, but what would it be called when the characters go beyond the "GM's screen" into the backstage? Is there a theatrical name or equivalent for something like this? And if not can you coin something so I can cite you! Thanks.
The adaptation of Play to Film and versa vice isn't always the smoothest but like anything it could always be worse. You have the power to adapt a play into a videogame and adapt a videogame into a play. What are your choices?
Once in high school we made a radio drama in Christian living, called 'Adventutes in [school name]'. We then played it on the local Christian radio. My question is, am I cooked?
Why’s your icon cool Voltaire?
I'm Cool Voltaire
What is your favorite Useless Talent or Skill?
What are your opinions on cats and dogs 2: the revenge of kitty galore
For each of you: What is the thing you most wish you could talk about for an episode, but is perhaps too specifically your shit for a good group conversation?
I hear you guys talking about video games all the time but don't ever hear any mention of tabletop games, aside from the Bible Magic the Gathering. Are there any that you guys play?
You all exposing me to more musical/ traditional theater has really changed my life for the better because it's given me more wells to draw from for inspiration in tabletop games. Brian's love for Dürrenmatt got me hooked on The Visit and elements of The Physicists got incorporated into my last campaign. Which operas or plays would you want to see have more influence on other forms of art?
If you had to do an episode on a specific Shakespeare play - not an adaptation or performance, just the script - which would you pick to make the most interesting episode
When more Lorne Lagorium?
Is there any piece of media that any of you have substantially changed your views on after doing an episode on it?
If you could have one video game companion character follow you around in real life who would it be and why?
What's a piece of media that's meaning has changed with you as you get older. For me, it's assassins. As my politics change, so to does my understanding of my favorite Sondheim show.
Fuck, Marry, Kill: Homeward Bound, The Brave Little Toaster, The Land Before Time
Maybe: Watch in cinema, buy the bluray, never see? FMK might be hard to apply to media :D.
In the age of CGI, stop-motion products are becoming a lost art. What is your favorite stop-motion / claymation production from any era?
Have you seen Mad God? I really loved it. Nauseating in texture!
Where else can we find Brian singing other than his One Man AIO Show? And is Chauncey alive?
Josh - aside from the Mets , any other sports teams close to your heart (Same question for Brian and AJ but unless Brian pulls out a New Mexico Lobos Jersey I'm assuming not much?)
King of Dragon Pass episode when? If you guys haven’t played King of Dragon Pass WHAT THE FUCK do that.
