129 - Blackgaard Begins (feat. Devon) [Whit’s Endless Summer 33]
Devon (Kill James Bond!) becomes an Odyssian convert as they and the lads journey to Odyssey for further adventures in vandalism, charge cards, and the impending return of the Devious Dutchman himself: Regis Blackgaard. Topics include New York solo shows, the proper way to cook a Chansey, and what it means to be the only pirate in a gang of roaming middle-schoolers.

Pirate c**ts forever!!! YAAARRG
I’ve listen to this episode maybe 10 times but I’ve listened to the intro closer to 20. It’s impeccable.
Wowow. Was not expecting a Black and Gold drop. I started at Purdue University (school colors being black and gold) shortly after that song came out. You couldn't move three feet in any direction without hearing it.
You say it's a problem to be a pirate in Ohio, but have I got a story for you about a fella from Saskatchewan who used to be a farmer, and he made a living fine. He had a little stretch of land along the CP Line...
Be warned Brian: The next time you do a one man play as an opening bit, I'm expecting it to run the length of most of the episode with only a 5 minute discussion after about the Treasure Hunt episode, where Eugene gets a bit Call of Dity lobby when given a water pistol.
And now I'm back at the point where I first started on this wild journey thanks to the presence of the always fantastic Devon. This is also the episode I first subjected the one Evangelical I know in real life to the madness and now she's hooked in too. This has been such a fun relisten over the last couple of weeks.
Brian has a really lovely singing voice.
So there are now books about Blackgaard, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088GXWMMQ?binding=kindle_edition&ref=dbs_dp_awt_ser_img_widg_pc_tkin
I thought Pinky was an original WOAPW creation! I feel lied to
So, thanks to you my roommate is deeply concerned for my mental health. She found me on the kitchen floor unable to breath from laughter. The really manic laughter where you lose all control. That was Brian's intro. And then, only an hour later she sees me with tears in my eyes. Because A.J. felt like making me feel heart-wrenching loss at the unrequitted love of a character he came up with for for a bit. The creativity and craft in delivery is off the charts, just sooo fucking good, I'm at a loss for words.
I am sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say: Bring Devon back for literally anything. I am not sure what games they're playing right now, but Devon and November as combined game guests, having all consumed, IDK, the Hearthstone Dalaran Heist solo adventure? Fallout: New Vegas? Alpha Protocol? Tales from the Borderlands? Something with a clear power structure where you can shoot a fascist.
My head canon is that the pirate who joined the Bones of Wrath is Black beard, and hes trying to get his gold back from Jack.
Seeing how much influence Whit has in the town and how the mayor responds to him makes me think Whit would be a villain in a mid-tier Jack Reacher novel
This series has more lore than Warhammer 40k
As someone who grew up with this and moved onto 40k in my teens, I agree entirely.
Bernard went and "sidestep child labor laws" and then the kid immediately smashed an expensive window during operating hours, potentially harming people and customers of rathbone's store. He is right to be pissed. thats a serious liability that rathbone needs to cover for.
I fucking love you all, this was incredible
I think this is my favorite opening y'all have done <3
Whit and Jason are definitely over in Palestine right now orchestrating war crimes? Has FOTF tackled this bit of ideology yet?
That Carmina Burana joke was so bad, and I love it so so much
I had a rough week. I am now going to savor this episode like Riley with a 2017 Harlan Estate red.
I am new to this entire situation and starting on this episode and I can't wait to go back and listen to more.
It'd be pretty neat to see a episode about the 1992 Senegalese film "Hyenas" by Djibril Diop Mambéty. They could get Brian Alford, certified appreciator of the source material; the play "The Visit" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Additionally they could get ML Kejera, certified Gambian back of for a local understanding.
Somewhere an ad exec was just whispering “Youthquake” to himself.
devon was a great guest, and i hope they come back once theyve finished binging the entire series to take brian's spot as the episode planner. Urghh, dave ramsey. Had to regularly listen to that in the car/at home. On one hand, i truly respect and am proud of my parents for their path out of debt and their hard work getting rid of their credit cards. on the other hand, fuck dave ramsey. Also, the scene where the rathbones are complaining about how people think "we arent as bad off as we think we are" is very funny to me. The "bad guys" plan seems to be to make the people of odyssey scared of crime and big city values.... In a show that has multiple episodes about how crime is getting worse and our values are being corrupted and how that should scare you.
They're creating a vibecession
All-timer of an episode.
Have you guys ever covered McGee and Me? I hand forgotten that show existed until you mentioned it. I think I had and episode or two on VHS as a child.
we covered an episode on our live show! check out episode 85
I’m curious what the fan space will be for AIO 1000, I live a day trip away from the recording space with a friend I can spend the night with and it’s incredibly tempting.
This was the most Firesign Theater opening ever. I loved it.
absolutely lost it at the intro...... brian I think I am In Love with you
So is Odyssey set in the West Wing universe because 9/11 didn't happen there either.....
Devon’s Rodney impression absolutely made my day! Y’all HAVE to get them on for more episodes! Was so glad to see them as the guest this week, love listening to them on Kill James Bond!
I'm pretty sure the kids show Cow and Chicken had a similar, but abriviated credit/charge card plot. One of them gets a charge card and after buying one thing the company is literally sending the devil to collect.
Top Tier intro. Chef's kiss, no notes. Perfect.
I attempted to off myself thrice during that intro
Brian, I need you to know that I raised my pledge tier five minutes into your intro. ...but I am not yet through the intro...
manspeakingbravelyattownmeeting.jpg "I would fuck Brain Alfred!" *Bob Dylan impersonation starts* "I would like to rescind my prior statement!"
So first, Brain, amazing pipes, five stars don't let the haters get you down, just because your play was boring and you're unfuckable. Second, I think Malanga! may be the greatest drop in the history of drops and I have no idea why. Maybe it's how it was used in the episode with Nate, but I have to sing along whenever I hear it.
are the new listeners gone yet?
Hi, I'm from the Center for Inscrutable Podcast Bits, and we've been watching you with great interest
Devon didn't mention their groundbreaking performance originating the role of John Taliban!

I know you guys probably just copied the KJB description, but you might want to update November's name from Alice. Love you guys <3
Fixed. Thank you
when Brian started 4:33 I audibly said "no fucking way"
Absolutely unhinged. Just the way we like it
Damn Brian, way to vibrato!
