Showing Off Different Fences + Our Fence Placement Tool!
Hi everyone! Chloé back again to present today’s Patreon Post.
Two weeks ago, we featured a little sneak peek of our fences in a modern house build. Today, I will be showing them a bit more thoroughly!
First of all, we have two methods with which you can place your fences:
✏️The drawing method, where you can draw your fences the same way you would your walls.
🧱The wall replacement method, where you can select a wall and have it changed to a fence of your choosing.
Currently, fences can not be curved. A lot of designing to get rounded fences is required, so it’s a feature we will keep for later. If you try to replace a curved wall with a fence, it will not work.
Both methods to place fences: at the front, the drawing method. At the back, the wall replacement method.
Our system works so that you can easily connect several fences from different angles, which I think it makes using them so much fun! You can also connect them to walls and different fences with no issues.
As you add more pieces, the pillars at the connected edges will update to be oriented in a way that looks the best for what you created!
I am currently creating new ones, here are a few that are in the game at the moment!
As some of you eagle-eyed patrons may have noticed in our modern house, we will have fencing that matches our stairs’ railings. This way, you can coordinate them if you so desire.
For gardens and the like, you will have a selection of fences, short and tall, available. Players will also have a few privacy screens like the one on the left to choose from!
If you want something more sturdy and chic to uh… hide them with style, there are also some brick and stone fences available.
Lattice fences if you want to have a bit more privacy from your neighbors. These are quite common in Canada; I can hardly make it in a suburb without seeing at least one yard fenced with these.
If you want something a bit more stiff for city-oriented builds, there will be some options too! Chain-link fences are next on our list.

Hey there Paralives team! I’ve got a suggestion for the cas buttons! Maybe you could put in a prescription glasses button so glasses aren’t accessories only, like in the game that shall not be named. And maybe you could make buttons for sexuality and gender too! Let me know if you like my idea!
I am loving the progress so far ❤️ Circle fences isn’t an immediate must, knowing that there is a possibility of them arriving in the future is enough 😊
A question, How will the placement of pillars work? As in, in the example for brick fences, the example on the left has wrought iron bars followed by a solid brick pillar and it repeats in a pattern. Is this a style of fence where the pillar placement is predetermined, or is it by using a combination of different fences?
I wondered about this too, as I really like that iron and brick fence actually. From looking at the picture, my guess would be that it's a style of a fence that automatically alternates pillars and fence segments, given how it meets the other solid brick fence type
HI, I have a little "criticism"to make, that is, when you show the interiors, the furniture and parafolk emit shadows that follow the sunlight, as if there were never a roof. Is it something done on purpose or is it something you've never noticed? because in my opinion it's not beautiful, it would be nice to have softer lights, or even when there is no light and no window to see the room totally dark, or it would be beautiful to see a room without lights and with only windows that let the sun's rays enter the room from the windows
I believe it's because they didn't developed the roof tool yet.

I dont think that something as basic as matching swatches should be be counted as spoiling us, it should be bareminimum 😑 Not that I can blame anyone on feeling so atm 😥
Hi, Chloe! Very cool designs! But I was thinking... Will fences have the same user interface as objects so you can change their height?
i frickin love the lil animation when you place the fence down, it does a lil wiggly bounce, hehe :3
Only thing I don't want is the pillars changing places when making the fences longer. It's super annoying in the Sims 4 when they randomly change places and ruining its looks. I want complete control over those pillars.
Agreed! Auto-placement is nice but there should be an option to choose it, maybe by holding down ctrl whilst dragging the fence section?
i would love a fence option that looked a little weathered, maybe an old stone wall with moss growing in between the rocks etc and maybe one that's all glass for more modern builds. privacy screens that have vines or something similar growing on them could be pretty too i really like the fences shown in this post, a lot of different styles so there's something for any house!

I love that the fence tool shows the angle; would it be possible to have an angle snap feature? Maybe one we can customize so we have options for 90°, 45°, etc.
Right now it snaps to 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180. Could be nice to have a setting that changes that!
Oh, fences with possibility to connect them at the angle ! Will be so useful for sure ! Really nice of forms even now too, we have rural, neutral, noble and urban ones ! To each their own !
I love the grass in the close ups. Are those going to be placable items? Or will the grass always have some dimensionality like that? It's such a nice detail that adds a lot of realism.
Thank you! The grass will not be placable and will automatically appear like that on the terrain
That's pretty cool. The privacy screens look nice and not bulky, it could look very nice if we have ivy and other similar plants like that. It's even possible that for some build I could use the privacy screen inside, in fact ! Quick question. Is it right to conclude that if I draw a fence from point A to point B, stop, then draw a fence from point B to point C, the pillar at point B will remain in place ? Also, are pillars always connected to the same fence, or can you select them independently ? Say, I like the brick pillar from the zigzag gif, but I want a more moddern fence like the last one : can I use those ingame, or will I need a mod that combines them ?
I think they showed ivy before on a house exterior! I agree that it will look great layered over the privacy screens.
I was wondering if you guys plan on having fencing with some decorations. Such as flowers on the fences os so on. I also noticed in the last picture, there is a 'corner' poll forming in the middle of the fence. How are the fences set to generate these polls? Is it at the end of each 'drag of fence' or is there a way we can control how these generate? I noticed you have not shown any gates for the fences, any particular reason?
Fences with decorations would be cute! It's possible that we add some in the future About the corner poll, they are automatically placed at the ends and connection points between fences We won't have gates for fences at launch but it would be great to add them later on!

Does no curved fencing confirm no spiral stairs? 🥲
Stair railings look like they're on a slightly different system. So, they may not be subject to the same challenges. I'm more concerned it means we can't put a rail (as opposed to half wall) on a curved balcony. Though I suppose that's not a super common feature in most houses.
Ohhhh I'd love to see some fences to use on a farm/cottagecore. Google says it's called chestnut fence in English!

Thank you! We might fix this in the future but we will keep it like that for now because it's a technical challenge and we prefer to make progress on other features before the release
I love that most of the stuff you guys do is everyday stuff that people actually see and use in their every day lives, rather than weird stuff that is just not that common. We can build houses that actually look like our own houses, instead of making do with all the weird stuff in that other game. These look so versatile and great!! With the chain wire fences, could we have both the diamond shape (very popular in Australia) and the square shape, also chicken wire fence (smaller hexagon shape). :-)
The fences look great! One little nitpicky thing I’d like to suggest is having the stair railings and the fence connect, so there isn’t two separate ends - I’m sure that’s something you’ve already looked at but just in case! Doing a great job tho, I loveee these updates :)
Thanks for the feedback! It's a bit tricky on the technical side to make them connect but maybe we can improve that in the future!

I love the white farm looking fences. It would be cool to have some barbed wire fencing for an alternative option if your trying to make the area look more grunge or used and not so dream cottage core farm. Or the like hand stone built walls that are are used in Scotland and Ireland a lot. I'm not sure what those are called. I also agree with the others of having a variance with a dilapidated look.
Fences are generally used to mark borders and borders are rarely curved, so I'm good with no curved fences! Really like the look of these fences, plenty of variety and they look like fences I could spot in RL and/or wouldn't mind in my yard. Looking forward to seeing more fence and door/gate options in the future! The placing the fence animation is really cute, by the way. A few questions: - Are privacy screens (as shown in this post) decor items or a variety of fences? - Are fences recolorable? - Is the brick and metal 'fence' as shown in this post 1 variety or two combined? - Is it possible to add decorations to fences, like hang paintings or flower pots etc on them? - Is it possible to add light fixtures to fences to illuminate the yard? - Can we add a cat/dog door or flap to a fence or gate? Possibly with a locking/chip mechanish so it only works for your pets or a cheaper version and then random pets can show up. - Can we have the option to make holes in the fence (either as decoration or functional) for nosy neighbors and/or dogs to look through? Suggestions for future varieties: - Galvanized steel fences - Concrete post with wooden panels in between per 1 piece of fence, not just concrete posts at the end/beginning (these are very popular in my country) - Wooden fences with the panels either horizontally or vertically - Different heights of wood-paneled fences, like 1 m, 1,5m and 2 m - Thin metal wire 'boxes' with rocks/pebbles inside of them (either with pre-made wire 'box' or to draw them yourself and have your para fill them with rocks/pebbles) - Cat-proof fences and/or cat-proof add-ons to fences like the rolling mechanisms or the rubber/metal pointy things (that are rarely effective)?
I think wrought iron fences would be neat too! I love the wooden panels they've shown too :)
Im loving these so far! A fence type id really like to see in game one day is what we call "skigard" in norwegian, or i think roundpole fence is the translation for it. Theyre so great for cottage vibes! And for farms like their vegetable gardens and such!

Yes! A smaller hedge that works as a fence, or an overgrown fence with plants woven around the bars would look great!
I am hoping we get "broken" variants for those run-down places. Rusty metal, crooked boards, bent bars.

I don't know the proper english name for them, but I would love a "skigard" as it's called in norwegian. If you search it up you will see a very cute homemade fence, perfect for cottages and rural areas.
A log fence?!?! That is so cool! You Norwegians are so fancy, I've never seen anything with diagonal logs before.

I'm excited for chain link oddly enough. No one ever has them and it would fit perfectly if I built my childhood home

Not being able to create a curved fence is not a big deal to me because we are free from the grid and can place fences at any angle. 😆 All of it looks really good, guys!
