New Dev Chat Format + Emotions & Mood Brainstorming Recap + New Theme + Poll
Hello everyone,
It is I, Sandrine! As usual, I’m here to share with you all the summary of the latest community brainstorming session as well as the new theme for the month of March. Oh but what is this? I also have something extra to talk to you about today: a new format for the weekly developer chat (reward available to the Hero and Legend tier Patrons)! Keep reading to learn more about it. Note that this Patreon post is for Patrons only so please don’t share it. Thank you!
New Developer Chat Format
If you’ve been around our Discord server or the r/Paralives subreddit, you probably saw (or even took part in) our weekly developer chats transcripts. Every Friday for an hour we opened the #developer-weekly-chat Discord channel to all Hero and Legend tier Patrons for them to chat and ask questions to the team.
We’ve decided to change up the format a bit and hopefully more of you will be able to join the fun! This new weekly dev chat is asynchronous, which means that Patrons can ask questions from Friday to Monday each week and then us developers will post all our answers the next Friday.
When? Starts every Friday at 1 PM ET, ends the following Monday at 1 PM ET
Where? On our Discord server in the #developer-weekly-chat channel
Who? This activity is exclusively for Hero and Legend tier Patrons, but all Patrons will be able to read the transcript of the chat once questions are answered by the team a week later.
How to participate:
Ask your question to any dev. Unless they are sick or on vacation, all devs will be able to answer your questions each week.
Maximum of 3 messages (question, suggestion, comment, etc.) per Patron during this time. You can give further explanations on the same subject and we will still count it as one message. You can ask the same question to different/all devs and it will still count as only one question (as long as the question is the same to everyone). The number of maximum messages could change from time to time.
React respectfully to other Patron’s questions. The question with the most “+1” reactions will have a special place in the dev chat document.
Send your different questions/suggestions in separate messages to make it easier for everyone to react with “+1” emojis.
Feel free to go to the #developers channel to discuss any questions you see in #developers-weekly-chat.
You may edit your question if you see that your question has been asked by someone else or for any other reason. Please note that any edits made after we close the dev chat won’t be taken into account as we will have already forwarded the questions to the devs.
Your questions will be answered in a document that will be shared the following Friday around 1 PM ET in the #developer-weekly-chat, #developers, and #patron channels.
Why this change? We hope that this way more of you will be able to participate and ask questions to the team. You will also have more time to think about questions. For example you could wait for the Patreon post to be published, whatever the time of publishing may be, and ask your related questions. With this new format, the team will also have more time to answer the questions and would be able to provide more detailed answers.
Emotions & Mood Brainstorming Recap
Thank you all for participating in the Emotions & Mood brainstorming session, we gathered your ideas from the comment section as well as from Discord and Reddit. Here’s a general summary of the ideas that stood out to us. Please keep in mind that if you don’t see your idea there, it doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t be taking it into account when working on this aspect of the game. In the same way, listing the ideas below doesn’t guarantee that we will add it to the game either since we will be focusing on the most important features first in order to be able to release the game. More interactions and features will be added overtime after launch.
🤩 A variety of emotions: neutral, joyful, sad, lazy, anxious, stressed, nostalgic, inspired, jealous, nervous, scared, gloomy, proud, overwhelmed, bored, confused, euphoric, disgusted, shy, etc.
😣 Mood could affect effectiveness of an action and the probability of a positive or negative outcome
🌨️ Likes and dislikes could affect the mood: weather, season, colors, activities, work, school, nature, children, music genre, etc.
😡 The Parafolk’s identity could affect the intensity of emotions
🌡️ Degrees of intensity for each emotion
💤 Needs could be affected by emotions. For example, being sad or nervous could make energy decrease faster than usual
📺 Different ways to unwind from a negative emotion. For example, some Parafolks would need social interactions and others would need alone time doing their hobbies
↘️ Emotions could fade over time, not end abruptly
🥴 Emotions could intersect and interact with each other instead of changing drastically each time something happens
🛌 Parafolks could wake up to different emotions
🧍♂️ Idle animation affected by current emotion
📈 Teenagers would be more prone to mood swings
🤰 Pregnancy mood could imply mood swings and cravings
🕗 Events that can affect the mood of a Parafolk for a few hours. For example, watching a horror movie would make your Parafolk nervous
📅 Events that can affect the mood of a Parafolk for a few days or more. For example, getting into a fight with another Parafolk, loss of a close one, break-up, etc.
💔 A break up could trigger different emotions depending on the circumstances: angry if cheated on, more or less sad depending if the Parafolk initiated the break-up or not, etc.
💘 One-sided relationships: Two Parafolks could have different/opposite emotions when interacting
🧸 Objects and furniture with sentimental value: Having it around could boost the Parafolk’s mood but removing or breaking it would cause the Parafolk’s sadness
Special thanks to Patron and Discord user Axart once again, who made a summary of his own during this month. As always, it’s been helpful to us!
Here’s a word cloud to see what has been mentioned the most in the Patreon comment section of the previous brainstorming session:
Next Monthly Brainstorming: Town Services & Businesses
Embark on a city tour with this month’s brainstorming session topic: Town Services & Businesses! By that we mean any services offered by the city itself but also local businesses. From fish market to postal services, how do you picture the initial town’s businesses and services? To get started, you can ask yourselves the following questions:
🛒 What town services and businesses would you like to see in-game?
🚒 Which services could be offered by Parafolks or NPCs (e.g. mail carrier) and which ones could be lot services (e.g. town hall, library, etc.)?
🍁 What kind of town services and businesses could be specific to one town or season?
🏡 Which services could be offered at home and which ones would you need to go out to get?
🚗 Which businesses would you need to call or visit to obtain what they offer? For example, would you need to go to a tattoo parlor to add a tattoo to your Parafolk or should it only be done in the Paramaker? Would you need to order or shop for food or should it always be available in your kitchen?
We’d love to read all your ideas in the comment section of this post. It is very inspiring! As usual, we will open this brainstorming session to the public next week on Discord in the #town-services channel and on Reddit.
Happy brainstorming!
Poll: Town Services
Now that the new topic has been revealed, we have a question for you: which of these more specific town services and/or businesses would you like to see in Paralives? You can select more than one option.
You can answer in the poll below. If you can think of something that is not in the options, don’t hesitate to share it in the comments.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Sandrine

i'm going to make my para work a 24 hour, 7 days a week work shift at a dead end job whilst their boyfriend is unemployed ! ❤️
Something that are very traditional in Brazil: Street markets
I know I'm late. I've just bought this, but I just think that, for me, it would be awesome to have many public lots like coffee shops, grocery stores and so on. Places that are realistic, from a daily basis, just to go there with friends or alone
It would be cute to add a pet store as well. I think it would be easier to implement a system for smaller pets that are in terrariums (fish/lizards/turtle/gekos) and a system for rabbits/ducks/chickens and a system for dogs/cats. Maybe in an expansion pack to add all the different types of animals
Self run business and restaurants/cafes would be amazing - would be an awesome stuff/explanation pack
Hospitals/Doctor office would be awesome; maybe both a rabbit hole and interactive option ?
Vets too!
7/11s ! I beg u pls ! 7/11s . Or something like that in the game
Seasonal markets would make the game feel so cozy Imagine seeing a big stand of pumpkins and other produce in the middle of autumn while orange leaves fall down, as you see the bustling town go about their business. I really hope they're added to the game!
How about a rollerskating rink/arcade/bowling area?
Hospitals or clinics would be really nice and realistic
Clothing store where you can actually try new stuff on - not just a rabbit hole store
I'd love it if you could go to the tattoo parlor for ear and body piercings as well as tattoos.
Dentist.
Maybe also a police and healthcare? I'd be happy with rabbit hole lots, but it would be amazing, if your para could interact at a police station or the doctor's! Like report a crime or go to the doctor/nurse because of symptoms etc. I know that's a big ask, so a rabbit hole type of lot is more than fine! (Also I just joined patreon just to support Paralives, you guys are amazing and I can't wait for the game!)
Well I would like to see a StripClub...umm don't get me wrong but I want my Paras to be as Human as possible instead of being childish like Sims...My Paras should be able to have fun however they want whether by going to a Park or a StripClub!
Hi Paralives, Some other ideas; * Tree surgeon service (when trees become overgrown) * Dr Surgery/ Midwife service/ Phychologist * Fuel Stations * local cemetery where family can visit deceased friends/ relatives
Hi! I hope Paralives Team could read my comment. I know I am already late cuz' I just recently suscribe to support this game :) but here are my ideas for this post: Police Station - Whenever there's a burglar stealing objects in a Parafolk house, police can respond via a police vehicle to catch the burglar. It can be triggered if the Parafolk has a burglar alarm or they called the police station about the situation. Firefighter - Same with the police station, firefighters can respond to an emergency. There should be a different animation depending on the severity of the fire. A firefighter would need to attach a hose to the fire truck or fire hydrant for big fires, and a fire extinguisher for small fires. Postal Service - It would be nice if we could see the messenger exits from the postal building and go around the town to deliver postal messages. Also, my proposal is to have this service in a physical building in town wherein Parafolks can apply for a job as messenger, etc. Nanny - Could it be a random parafolk? Can a parafolk apply as a nanny as well? If yes, how? Cleaning Service - Same question with Nanny. Also, it would be nice to have a physical building, like an agency for cleaning services, wherein a parafolk could apply as a maid. Grocery Store - It would be nice if a Parafolk is required to go to a grocery store to get their supplies or else they would not be able to prepare their food. Also, if a Parafolk cannot go to the grocery store, Parafolk can call the store or visit their site to request a delivery of goods to their home. Delivery Services - This is what I have missed from The Sims 2. Parafolk can order: - Pizza, burgers, etc. - Different types of cuisines based on Parafolk recipe? It would be nice if the game has unique -foods that can be called Para cuisines. IDK lol. - Coffee, Tea, Shakes, Juices, etc. It would be nice if the UI for ordering food services would be like Grab Food or Food Panda wherein we can choose what type of pizza/burger, type of coffee whether hot or cold, frappucino, etc. plus add-ons like sides dishes, bread types (croissant, etc.) addition for coffee, etc. Then the total price would be variable to what we have chosen from the menu. Each store should have an opening and closing time. Some stores should offer different or unique types of food depending on the season. It would also be nice if these stores has a physical building in the town to add realism. Driving School - This really gives a realism wherein if a parafolk would like to drive a car, parafolk must have a license first. Hairdresser - Does the parafolk grows their hair in time? Or Parafolk's hair would be at is and they would go to the Hair Salon/Barbershop to change their Hairstyle? Add a makeup service as well for the hairdresser. The Tattoo Parlor - For a parafolk to have a tattoo, they must go to a tattoo parlor. Parafolk cannot have a tattoo from the create a parafolk. This will add realism. Bar, Coffee Shop, Tea Shop - Yes, please :) Offer a variety of selections on the menu for a parafolk to choose from. Hospital/Clinic - I assume Parafolks could have illnesses: - Common illnesses such as allergies, colds/flu, diarrhea, etc. - Critical illnesses that require confinement like cancer, pneumonia, kidney failure, etc. - Life-long illnesses that require maintenance such as diabetes, heart diseases, arthritis, etc. - Emergencies such as stroke, etc. They can acquire these illnesses based on their lifestyle or gene. For a Parafolk to be cured or receive medication, they must visit a hospital/clinic. Parafolk can be confined based on their illness and if their doctor requires them. There should be a small chance that a Parafolk could die if they didn't survive their illness. For Parafolks who have life-long illnesses, they should be required to visit the hospital/clinic once in a while as maintenance, or else their illness may worsen and they could die in the process. There should be mental disorders as well such as major depression, bipolar disorder, generalized/social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (a Parafolk could get this condition if they suffer a traumatic event), etc. (Please ask the community for the list of condition they would like to include. These are the conditions I could think of for now). Parafolk could visit the hospital and have therapy with a Psychiatrist, and they would need to visit their doctor once in a while or as needed. Parafolk could avail a health insurance plan to help them with their hospital bills. Memorial Services - It would be great if there is a memorial service for Parafolks that have died. For instance, if a parafolk died, a van from a memorial service could collect the body and ask if the Parafolk would like to be cremated or placed in a coffin. Then in the Memorial Building, there should be chapels wherein Parafolks could visit the dead and mourn. After several days, the memorial service could place the urn or coffin in a cemetery. If some of my ideas cannot be included in the first version of the game, it would be nice if you added them in the game's expansion pack :) I hope for the team's consideration!
I know I'm way too late to comment on this (I haven't been actively checking my email for the polls, and I just answered the latest poll which was a follow-up to this), but I would love to see an equestrian center in addition to what I selected above. I definitely agree that having a DIY-Shop would be awesome! You could have a Para who runs a consignment store or antique store, which would be fun.
A DYI shop (where you can buy materials and tools for your arts&crafts and carpentry projects, such as sculpting, painting, etc) and second hand stores, selling used clothes/toys/furniture at cheaper prices.
Also flower shops! Party and craft/hobby supply stores! For more specialized stores there could be an increase of quality vs some hodge podge shops. Maybe some interactions with townies about shop recommendations like they dislike the owner/ employee or just had a bad experience (like a bad haircut or cultural experience) and tell you bad things about it and may disprove of you if you ignore their recommendation and buy something from them. And if they recommend you a shop they had a good experience from they would have more approval if you support the business they like. Also theaters or maybe even dance schools. And on the subject of dance maybe even dance nights for communities (swing dancing or waltzing for couples and elders, or maybe dance offs for youths and other Paras who are confident enough to show off their skill). Sorry to go so far off topic. Just thought of a bunch of things all at once interconnected with the idea of businesses/ shops
That would be dope
Book stores and laundry mats would also be pretty cool. Or even if you could customize it a bit more. Like one place could be a tea shop and book shop. Or you can sell clothes in a grocery store. Have a bakery attached to a hotel. Or a restaurant in a museum. Coffee shop or bar in a library etc... not all shops are simply one thing and a lot of shops in towns can be a hodge podge of a bunch of things.
I would love to see curiosity/ vintage thrift shops. Honestly, I think adding such a curiosity shop and some vintage shops or maybe even metaphysical shops would be a great game pack later to add in some paranormal elements. Like buying a cute dress, only to find it cursed or strange things started to happen once you get a great deal on a vintage chair. But for people who don't want cursed/ paranormal I would leave all the vintage and curiosity shops to be paranormal free, but all the paranormal things to be "coded" (sorry can't think of a better word) into the stuff so when you buy a paranormal game pack it unlocks all those paranormal interactions and maybe a menu to turn off certain features so you can customize your experience.
Also, a fortune teller
Also if there is a stylist, tattooist, and a clothes store, paras should be able to go there to ‘collect’ the different styles. The more styles they buy there, the more are available at home.
There should be a therapist that the para can go too, to help with mood, personality things
How about a resourt were your characters can get some much needed rnr, pool, sauna, steamroom, jaccuzi, massarge, gym, cinama, kids club, cinama you could also add some anime stuff for all the otakus too
having to go to the store for groceries, go to the hairdresser to change your paras look, and go to the tattoo parlor to get tattoos all sound like great ideas. i feel like they make the game a challenge since you cant just access everything out of thin air.. it would be fun (tragic for the para lol) to realize that one night your para gets off from work and is starving but ran out of food to cook and had to wait until the morning to buy groceries/be hungry for a night for example.
Boutiques to purchase clothes!
Having NPC's seen cleaning up the town would be cool eventually. Like lawn mowers, trash-picker uppers, mopping public spaces. etc.
I would love older, disabled, and youth homes with staff that lives on site and comes to work daily. Similarly mental and physical health centers that have both in-patient and out patient options (sim stays there as a rabbit-hole or drop off sim at a certain tim for support group/physical therapy etc.)
If horses are included, why not a riding center and a training center for horses and/or dogs?
All of them lol, but I always wanted to have a daycare center instead of a babysitter. Even if it’s a rabbithole, just dropping off the kids would make the game more immersive for me. Maybe also add an afterschool option for children so that they can hangout with all their friends or get homework done.
On that note, I would love a before school day care where you can drop the kid off early to school. It could be free for public schools and an extra fee for private. Also a pre-K free for lower income (cool if we could set the income/minimum wage/living wage in the back-end or as a government official)
I don't know if this has been said already but I would love to see an elder care/nursing home business, where the elderly can be happy and meet people their own age. So either you could have them in the house with your younger parafolk, or you could move them out and visit with the grandkids, or maybe you could even play the elder in their home (like an apartment for oldies). I want to get really attached to my parafolk and not just think of elders as adults that look different, but a seperate life stage with their own wants and needs.
What if a functional service could be home care service for the elderly. It’d be like a nanny for the elderly. They can help the elderly by grocery shopping for them, laundry, and taking them to the doctor making sure they’re safe, taking care of them when they’re sick. There could also be the option for the elderly to request only day time services or overnight services for extra fee. So the first care worker who was there in the day time would be released by the night care worker. You can choose which days the care worker comes as well and tell them what you want them to do. So who’s it works is when an elderly calls care wirker, they ask how many days they’d like services and what services they need, which would be: cleaning, doctor visit chauffeur, administering care medicine and help elderly exercise, grocery shop, lastly you can choose round the clock care.
Not exactly a service but I would really like to see nursing as a career option. In the sims it’s only ever a stepping stone in the medical field which makes me sad. I think ultimately the more functional services the better :) makes the game feel alive.
A planetarium would be quite interesting.
I would like to have moving companies. To need space for stuff and boxing it if you are changing houses. To make storage functional. I don't think it is a priority, but it would be cool and woul make the size of a house more important.
We need a courthouse! Lawyers and judges need to finally be a thing in life sims!
Hospital Police station Theater/concert hall (if your Parafolk play an instrument or act, they could put on a show) Gym Sports stadium Street fairs and carnivals Building for each career, even if only a rabbithole Bookstores (if your Parafolk write a book, they could sell it in the store) Grocery store/farmer's market (if your Parafolk grow/raise food, it could be sold here) Schools!!! Town Hall (allow your Parafolk to vote on community initiatives that directly affect gameplay) Food, books, and other items could be available at home via fridge, bookshelf, etc. but buying them in town could unlock certain emotions, provide opportunities
Spa with massages, manis/pedis, etc!
I was thinking, it might be nice to have train stations (I would love it to be art deco) and rabbit hole trains with which you can go to other towns. You could say farewell to a friend who came to visit you or await them when they come. Also I was thinking it might be nice to have a repair shop, where you can bring clothes or (electronic) devices that are broken. Could be nice to include it in a thrift shop.
Or maybe an in-town trolley like in San Francisco to get to further areas. If a non-active (not used to exercise), old, or even disabled Para could use public/ private transportation to get around town rather than walking (and the walking could decrease their energy faster or injure them for a period of time causing them to rest)
I really like the pet shelter idea. I have never seen something like that in the other life simulators. It would be cool to have something like that for adoption like a orphanage. If your paras parents die and they are too young and don't have any family they go to the orphanage and you can adopt them into another family so that they don't just disappear like in the sims.
Cinema, event center (concert, football game, circus show, etc..), dentist, shops (clothes, groceries, make-up, sports accessories, ... - all in different buildings/stalls), seasonal center (haunted house and pumpkin carving for Halloween, food stalls and decorated tables where you can eat for valentine's day, Christmas tree and Santa sitting on chair for kids to go get presents at Xmas, etc...), sports center (basketball, badminton, ice skating, etc...), pharmacy eventually (for pills against acne when teenager, head-aches when tired, nausea when pregnant, xanax when stressed, etc...), garage (if cars end up coming into the game later-on), metro/train/tram station (to get around the city, go to different towns, or go down a rabbit hole), cyber-cafe, fire-hall, police station/prison/detainment cells (to create villain parafolks), hospital, why not even military base someday, post-office, Arts center (music, theater, singing, painting, pottery, ...), massage parlor/spa, psychologist, chiro, kine, schools and nursery, I think any services in-game, offered by NPCs, should be available to the Parafolks. Depositing resumes/CVs, and having more-or-less a chance of getting hired depending on skills/traits, experience and diplomas. (waiter/waitress would require agility, charisma / mailman would require fitness and punctuality / bartender would require experience or diploma / doctor would require diploma (and experience depending the job : head of a department for example) / vendor would require experience or charisma and being extrovert would give probability bonus to be hired / teacher would require diploma and a personality trait who enjoys working with kids, etc...) Piercings, tattoos, hair-dyes/haircuts, should definitely have a shop of their own, where you would go and physically modify your Parafolk after having created it, using money. Deliveries and ordering : Food (pizza, burgers, asian, mexican, indian, etc...), clothes and make-up and tools (that you could also buy in shops), groceries delivery. Services : cleaning, baby-sitter, handyman, gardener, pet-sitter, massage therapist,...
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but it would be cool if there was an entertainment center in the middle of town for things like movies, concerts, plays, comedy shows, skill classes, tours, escape rooms, and other activities. It could just be a rabbit hole in the form of a large building. I feel like it would add to the town and it would give your paras so much more stuff to do outside of their house.
I'm not exactly sure if this counts but something I always crave and wish for when I'm playing newer life simulation games are Town Fairs and Season Festivals. For the fairs/season festivities there can be certain careers that are filled by NPCs ages teen-elder and can be selected as part time jobs for paras to apply for. It could be a great way to give teen paras 'experience' in the work field and it's also been one of my favorite things in life simulation games. If there were stalls that people manned, like a shooting game, haunted house, pictures, etc. To make it a rabbit hole job area but still accessible for the player (who actually wants to go to the fair and, say, see their teen working) there can be rabbit hole restaurants or, like I said, haunted houses that are rabbit holes. In games, I'd love to see things that are great for date nights and family nights. Bowling alleys, arcades, season fairs, comic book cafe/store, a mall ((maybe)) (those being lot services). Other non-lot services could be grocery stores (ordering online and having the food delivered or having a funky looking box appear by the front door after x days), pet stores, art stores, anywhere where you'd buy something or sources of entertainment like concert halls, movies, stadiums, etc.
For interactions, I think the most important thing would be to have a for NPCs and objects to interact with the player without the player having to initiate. I think this would really set PL apart because games that don't act on the player feel boring and empty because the player always has to think of what to do next (open world helps with this). For moods, I'd like to see paras feeling awkward like a shy para at a party. But if a shy para is always socializing and going to parties, they will start to feel less awkward about socializing. Stressed out, silly for para children, crushing (which will make paras blush around those they like romantically). For services- I think a music venue, library, gym, apartments, petrol/gas station, pool, hotel, grocery store, doctor's office, animals shelter, farm, bar and restaurant would include enough things to do to keep paras busy in the base game for players to make their own venues. For instance, a generic store venue that has a filter means players will be able to make any kind of store they like without having to program for different ones. Skyscrapers, food services, trains, laundromats can be rabbitholes bc they have very little for the player to interact with.
I like the idea that's been mentioned of new businesses having a 'coming soon!' sign when a lot has been bought to be built on but not arrived yet, to keep paras in anticipation. It could have a rope around the zoned off parts until it gets built.
Gyms. And a recreation center, especially for kids and teens (and elders 😀). Lifeguards if there will be a swimming feature. I want the swimming skill to matter and for a lifeguard to be able to rescue you if you can't swim. Kids and teens can learn to swim at the rec center.
Which services could be offered by Parafolks or NPCs (e.g. mail carrier) and which ones could be lot services (e.g. town hall, library, etc.)? I hope both paras and NPCS can both do service jobs and own buildings for business lots in town, paras also able to be a mail carrier, firefighter, police both in cars and walking around, doctor & nurses, sanitation workers pick up, nanny, package delivery, house cleaner, gardener, pool cleaner, real estate agent, food delivery, taxi driver, dog walker, electrician, babysitting, fitness trainer/coach,. For lots that would be services for you to go and get and obtain? real estate agent office, library, airport, train station, grocery stores, hospitals, clinics, town hall for certain employment and filing (like name change, etc.), clothing stores, furniture stores, car dealership, pawn shops, laundry mats, a bank, motels and hotels, orphanages, shelters, thrift stores (can give donations) I like the opportunity for paras to pick up food (both groceries and regular take out food) when they order it online or over the phone. What kind of town services and businesses could be specific to one town or season? Maybe a vacant lot in town that holds annual seasonal festivals only opens during the seasons and holidays. Say a town that a ski-lodge it only opens from November-February. Maybe some towns could have public transportation services and others do not. (buses, taxi, metro,) it could be a setting to have it turned off per world/town so these things aren’t spawning. Community garden that allows paras to eat produce year round Certain farms could offer food delivery to grocery stores or even residents (like milk and eggs) Camp grounds or a popular camp ground that lots of paras travel to see, I think having landmarks for towns would be really cool to have. Snow plowing, spring clean up or planting day (paras come plant produce, flowers, or trees on residential and community lots if asked) Haunted houses or forests Tourism for historical towns or certain towns Pawn shops for more metropolitan areas vs a small town Costume shops Antique stores Also will it be possible for businesses continue to operate even if our active playing para isn’t on the said lot? (The world is still progressing with and without them). Also,Will they have vacancy capacity on open lots that spawns randomly or will it depend on the x amount of paras within a town?
Pet store Fast food restaurants paras car would automatically drive through and then leave. Multi-business lots that can have multiple businesses on one lot but they’re not inter-connected and operating the same, they have their own closing and opening hours and managers and employees. NPC and Paras being able to work there as an employee or manager. Because as in sims you couldn’t have a whole strip of stores of different sectors like bookstores, cafe, clothing stores, jewelry store. be separated from another it was just like one big house that wasn’t connected (visually) but it was connected and it only had one owner, which i admit I did not like. Because it wasn’t allowing to be able to create in-depth worlds and towns or even a main street so to say. So i’d really love to see something like this. Multi-use lots having the ability to have a business and a residential building together on the same lot I feel like I might have a huge wishlist with this one, but I’d really love to see multiple lots of the same kind scattered around the world/town. But they would each have a unique attribute to them that would differentiate them from each other. By this, I mean 3 grocery stores or 2 libraries even, etc. Causing paras to even gravitate towards one business more than the other even if they are in the same industry. This could be chosen which attributes your lots has but I think it’d also be nice for the business have the opportunity to unlock some as well. Based on its own hidden economy or visits per day (idk how this could work) giving competition in commerce. Example of some attributes could be ‘organic produce’ ‘local farm grown’ ‘low prices’ ‘high quality’ ‘vegetarian only’ ‘open 24/7’ ‘open late’ ‘vegan food only’ ‘celebrity spotted’ etc. etc. Other lots I’d love to see: Hospitals and police station you never see them and in the sims it was only an active career but not an actual lot you could visit even as a rabbit hole. Public library, Grocery stores, movie theatre, opera theatre, auditorium, night clubs, high rise or rooftop lounges, electronics and furniture stores, bookstores, post office, florist shop, wedding dress store Funeral home Skating rink & a skateboard park
Also record store, travel agency, real estate agency, car dealerships, and senior citizen community hall
I'd like to be able to design my Para however I want initially in the Paramaker, even if some of the features change once you're in live mode. Like, if once you start a save file you can only change certain things by going shopping for clothes/shoes/jewelry, going to the hair/tattoo parlor, etc. that would be great. But when I'm creating a new para, I'd like all the options available. And a cheat to be able to change things without shopping for them once you're in live mode, for those who like gameplay better that way. Just some thoughts, hope they make sense. :)
Yes I would really like it this way too.! Full access the first time making your paras then you have to go into town to get everything else you want or use cheats to unlock all the clothes again
It would be great to see Concerts, Events & Convention Centre. Gaming stores ect.. Movies theaters, Parks and Zoo's.
With the town services, can you make it so that every single one can be a job? It could just be a rabbithole but when they are at work, your paras in the family can see them at work or other paras in different families could see them whenever they go to the job location or, with the case of firefighters, when their house burns down.
also can you add police
Gardening/lawncare services! Maybe outdoor nurseries where you can buy plants and flowers. Bakeries and local stores. Pet care services. Bookstores, record stores, etc.
A theater for movies and/or plays
Another idea for bussiness; Gas station, car mechanic / car service, wash station for cars, garages (you could rent a garage if you don't have one beside your home), car dealership. Then I would like to see a traffic playground - place where kids can learn how to drive a bike and how to safely travel on roads and such. Then bike service, cyclic lanes, possibly parkour ground for bikes
Building and interacting with the town is what I am most excited to do in Paralives! Personally I feel the following can be done without an associated lot: - Firefighters and police - Postal service - Nanny - Cleaning service - Animal shelter - though it would be really cool to have a real one where Paras can volunteer or go meet and adopt the animals in person I would love for Paras to be able to: - Go to a tattoo parlor to get tattoos (and maybe piercings) but not be able to do that in the Paramaker without a cheat - Either go to the grocery store or order delivered groceries (if I really need to bake a cake right now but I forgot to buy flour, I don't want to have to go all the way to the grocery and be late for the birthday party) - Order a variety of foods from delivery, even if there isn't a local restaurant of that kind, but also be able to order from local businesses - Find ANY book at the library! And check them out! That's the point of the library! Places not listed that I would love to have: - Movie theater (rabbit hole) - Farmer's market - as at least one other person has said, this could take place in a big open lot or park. It could occur during Spring through Fall and have some different options depending on the season (strawberries vs corn vs apple cider, for example). Paras would always be able to get the essentials from the grocery but Farmer's Market products might be higher quality or special in some way. - School (rabbit hole) - Restaurants (rabbit hole but maybe with the possibility to control them in the future?) - Retail store - clothing, furniture, florist, jewelry/accessories (can also be a rabbit hole) - Ice cream parlor - Community center (rabbit hole) - could have special family activities on the weekends, after school care, summer camp, and community theater shows - Bank (rabbit hole) - Parking lots I'm very excited to see the results of this brainstorm and what you end up doing! <3
it would be cool if when going in different rabbit holes there's a thrift store with clothes following the theme of the new location and special foods for cures and stuff that you could only get there but that more so kind of on the magical occult side of things.
I thought about my bakery idea some more and how it can work in a game like The side of the buyer I don't think it will be a problem but the baker or cook if it's a restaurant and not a bakery They can 1) cook/bake faster then a normal Para 2) cook/bake more quantity at once then a normal Para can at home so they won't run out of dishes/pastries as fast
Please don't forget about public spaces! Parks, squares and streets with different characteristics that allow both free and paid entertaintment and uses, for which they must be provided with a nice enviroment, space design and equipments depending on the activity you want taking place there: Long and spacious pedestrian spaces without obstacles are needed for: 🔸️Walking/jogging 🔸️Dog walking 🔸️Skating 🔸️Street-art performing Wide and nice spaces will allow for some temporary activities: 🔸️Markets 🔸️Fairs and festivals 🔸️Concerts and public performances 🔸️Outdoors movie screenings 🔸️Parades and gatherings 🔸️Sports events (marathons, outdoors yoga, guided cardio dancing) Specialized public furniture and/or areas are required for: 🔸️Sitting (to chat, to read, to eat, to people-gaze) 🔸️Excercising 🔸️Practicing sports 🔸️Playing* 🔸️Dog training 🔸️Acrobatic Skating 🔸️Biking (If it is done alongside cars, they most likely need to be protected from them and have a specialized network of bike lanes along the street, if it's done alongside pedestrians, the space must be wide enough for both) Private-owned bussinesses will enable some street activities too: 🔸️Window shopping and shopping 🔸️Outdoors eating 🔸️Outdoors working (in laptops or tablets) Places to do some of these activities and more in close-contact with nature: 🔸️The beach 🔸️The forest 🔸️The mountain 🔸️The desert 🔸️A hill 🔸️A lake Activities like: 🔸️Camping 🔸️Swimming 🔸️Sunbathing 🔸️Stargazing 🔸️Horse riding 🔸️BBQing Some all-around elements to keep in mind: 💡Nice public lighting, for places you want used during night time 🌿Greenery, for aesthetic purposes and to shelter from the sun and relieve the heat, depending on the season or the local weather *🪁The many faces of playing: On the playground, with toys, with sports equipment, on the phone or a gaming portable console, standing, sitting on a bench, sitting on a table, sitting on the ground, running, by oneself, on pairs, with a small group, with a big group, for all ages, for specific ages, with rules, without rules, alongside food, alongside music, with water, with snow, with fallen leaves, with paint, with friends, with family, with strangers, with pets, spontaneously, routinely, having made plans for it, for a short time, for a long time
I would love to have a daycare that you can drop your kids off at and pick them up later. Also, some other people have mentioned rabbit holes. If there are rabbit holes in the game, I think it would be cool if we could have something like semi rabbit holes in some places where you can access a small section of the building but not the entirety of the interior. A daycare, for example, you may not be able to see all the classrooms in the building, but you can walk in to the front desk and sign your child out and chat with the staff.
I think you should be able to shop online, clothing as well as groceries and build buy items. I also think your paras should be able to take the drivers permit online and even fill out applications online buy computer but then go in to take drivers test, and get drivers permit, if you are going to have both.
Foster care
i would love a foster care system in the game thats a great idea
Bank
Daycare or nursery
I also love the idea of restaurants, bakeries, museums, and antique stores as others have mentioned! Also an ice cream and/or candy shop. Basically all of the places that make a town square a fun place to walk around and spend the day. It might be an ambitious ask, but it could be fun in general for a neighborhood to have a sort of "downtown" type area where events take place.
I would love to see little "mom and pop" businesses. If there are multiple neighborhoods down the line, these businesses could be unique to each one—so Parafolk would need to travel out of their town and into the next one to go to these different shops. Some ideas could be for a florist/garden nursery, thrift store (not just for clothes), an antique store, book store, bakery, electronics store, art gallery, games store, etc. Some of these ideas could be combined together—for example the games store can also sell books, the antique store can also sell clothes, the art gallery can have a cafe. As Christina Ozeki mentioned above I'd also love to see museums in our para towns! They can be rabbit holes, perfect for an afternoon excursion with friends or family, a date spot, or school field trips for the kids.
Other: Police 🚨
Thank you for the update Paralives team. I ticked all of them because I don't mind all of those options. I would also like to see a bakery, a natural history museum, a flower shop, DIY and gardening store.
for businesses: youth clubs, animal shelters, cafes, shopping malls, dog parks, a daycare, multiple hair salons offering different hairstyles and colors, different grocery stores like maybe one that only sells organic foods, and thrift stores.
For this brainstorm I would like to suggest festivals in town hosted by both townies and Para's that live outside of town. For all the jobs you have listed and more to come, I would say that it would be great to be able to have your own para become that as well. I really dislike how my Sim can't even be a firefighter for example.
I would like to add to the previous brainstorm that I do not think pregnancy should be 'just a moodlet'. It can and should be so much more.
NPCs i would like to see are: - nannies, maids and gardeners - butlers - private school admissions director - repairmen - firefighters - social workers (the could provide you with a list of improvement requirements one could fulfill, before actually taking your kid) - cooks - janitors in apartment buildings? - a neighbourhood weirdo/loner, who’s annoying or seems a bit crazy/quirky, but if you befriend them could teach you a secret or two - Each town could have a town ghost? - Animal sitters and obidience trainers I like the animal shelter suggestion a lot! Would love to adopt birds/parrots. I also like the suggestions about services like: - daycare/kindergarden for toddlers/kids (where they build skills and make friends) - banks - orphanage - food delivery service (take out and to fill the fridge) Spots i would like to visit with my simulated people are: - the gym - restaurants and street food vendors (for learning new recipes) - clothing stores - parks for building different skills and meeting new friends, dog parks (where dog owners acually would show up WITH their dogs), and i dunno.. cat cafés? For me i think it’s more fun if certain places would attract similar minded paras, to make it easier to meet friends and possible mates. I don’t mind that certain places are rabbit holes, like schools, kindergardens, recreational centres, police-/fire stations, etc. But it would be cool if the building was actually in the city, and could be useable in a later update. As important it is to have a vibrant and playable town, I think it is just as important that the nature around is playable. Like fishing/bathing in ponds, ocean and rivers. Picking flowers in the park/forrest to plant in your own garden, chopping down or climbing trees, mining for gemstones, etc. In general there should always be a reason to leave your home lot, something to gain from interacting with the outside world.
I love peoples suggestions about hair growth, and having to go to the hair dresser to change hair colour or cut it. Maybe some hair styles could be accessed through the paramaker, like different braids, buns, etc., for each length and hair texture, but if you want drastic changes (shorter, extensions, permanent curls) the para would have to visit the hair dresser. The same concept could be applied to other aspects, like furniture. Where you could buy some furniture in the build catalogue, but others would have to be bought from second-hand shops, some from high end furniture stores, and some you would have to build yourself if you have obtained the correct type of wood, have sufficient building skills, and the recipe for the furniture piece, for instance. Maybe one could visit a carpenter to order customized furniture, or deliver furniture for repair/change its appearence like new paint or upholstery.
- Driver/chauffeur NPCs for buses, taxis and carpool for work (with nicer cars picking the paras up for work as they climb their career ladder). Also the possibility for richer paras to order limo service or a personal chauffeur would be cool
Also, I would love to have youth center, daycare and nursery homes for Paras of specific ages to go (or stay) and meet peers
To me it is important that my para has places in town where they can meet up with friends. Like go in a cafe and do people watching / knitting / gossiping with their friend there or go to a spa together or have dinner at a restaurant or simply take a stroll or jog. Window shopping would be nice too. And maybe have that option in multiple settings, eg a mall and a historical downtown area where no cars are allowed. Maybe even have public transportation rides be interactive and part of the event of going out :)
There should be an option to pick only 2 (with other as an exception) bc I can't stop myself from clicking them all 🥴
It would be great if rabbit holes were customizable. Like you build the shell and select the front door, then you put a debug-object inside the shell which has an option to “wash out” the inside (so you don’t need to furnish) and also the option to mark it as a certain type of lot. Doing this, we could build our own rabbit holes in any style we want and are not stuck to one style, and it could integrate well with if we later receive an update with an active version of that lot type (example tattoo parlor/hairdresser) — then we simply transform that lot into the active one! I feel like it’s easier for the devs too because you can use the same tools as the players to create these lots!
that's a great idea!
I love the idea of children being able to offer odd job services to get a bit of pocket money... dog walking/ clearing yard / taking out trash / help older people shop for groceries?
All of the above and every poster has brilliant ideas I love them all, I think to sum it up I want service’s and business’s that bring a community feel to the town and help the player feel connected to the Paras and the world. Not just a rabbit hole that has no meaning, things need to have purpose and depth.
All I ask for is that the venues have purpose!🙏 If you can choose your hairstyle/color and add tattoos anywhere at home in the Paramaker, then there’s no incentive to go to these venues when it’s actually more inconvenient. Same with grocery stores, add a hefty delivery fee + time or something when you order them to your house rather than going and buying them yourself to encourage going out. Tbh I also think all these specialty lots should be rabbit holes to start. Having them open just takes a lot of work, takes more time out of the paras day and is hard to do right, and it doesn’t add much to gameplay (yes it’s good for storytelling but modders can create a posing mod and cc for that!) **Ofc parks, nightclubs and cafés should not be rabbit holes because they are an activity, not really a “chore”.
1. I mean, all of the options in the poll are amazing! Add some clothing shop to that. 2. Parafolk/NPC services could be like a mail carrier, food/item delivery, repairman, thief (really miss the thieves in TS4), nanny, the list goes on but this is the first that popped into mind. Lot services makes me think of police station, fire station, post office, bank, auto shop, hair dresser, tattoo/piercing parlor, market, grocery shop, bakery. 3. A market would be perfect for seasonal services, maybe it's there every weekend but when there's a new season or a holiday it has extra good seasonal fruits/veggies/meats, and perhaps it even sells clothes/items on special occasions. Like a winter market where you can buy decorations for christmas. 4. I think the services should be realistic which makes most of the things you can buy able to order by home delivery, like food/items/furniture. Although a bar/coffee shop, tattoo/piercing parlor, hair dresser are services that are hard to deliver to your Para's doorstep. But if you are able to order stuff to your doorstep i thin it should come to a cost. It would be nice to be forced and/or find it easier to go out to town sometimes so your Parafolk won't be stuck at home through life! xD 5. I'm all for realistic and "hard" gameplay. I want to work for it. Soooo i would looove that nothing is for free. or atleast the game might have a on/off setting that lets you play the way you like?
I love the idea of a hairdresser and tattoo parlor! I think there should be, depending on how big the open world is, two hair dressers with some different selections of haircuts/styles. and maybe some like barber shop exclusive hair styles? then idk you get inspired and you can unlock it to your paramaker hairstyles
Not sure if this is the brainstorm for this idea, but it made me think about it. One thing I think would be really great would be if you could save a town that you've edited to reuse again later. For example, say I built a new bar and designed a new clothing shop and I want to save that version of the town so I could reuse it with a new save in the future. That would be awesome! Lots of simmers make their own "custom saves" that are kind of complicated to reuse, so it would be really cool if that was a feature added in the game.
• Clothing stores - buyable clothes to try on and purchase that, like someone said above, you can’t find in the paramaker; also different styles of clothing possibly in certain stores • furniture store • grocery store • electronics/games store or arcade • drive thru and fast food restaurants • curbside order, takeout and delivery services for different foods besides pizza • dine-in restaurants • movie theaters • banks • small fairs and carnivals • different style bars and clubs (dive bar, live music, pub, exclusive lounge, etc). • airport • health clinics • spa • gym • casino • a boardwalk + pier w/ a mix of activities (food stands, small rides, gift shops, etc.) • museums w/ special events & tours • stadium for concerts and sports • convenient stores w/ different things to buy • functional gas stations • street acts (dancers, artists, magicians, musicians, etcs) • Police stations w/ jail and criminals • Mall with a mix of stores and services • hair and nail salon • tattoo + piercings shop • pharmacies • zoos • cafe + bookstore combo • thrift stores • pool halls • town hall • factories and plants • garden centers • lesson centers (dance, boxing, yoga, martial arts, etc) I know it’s insane, but if a lot of these could be fully accessible instead of rabbit holes it would be awesome :)
A hospital, medical/dental/vision/etc clinics, bakery, fast food restaurant and a table service restaurant, movie theater, event hall, sports stadium, funeral home, parks, school, spa, casino, zoo and aquarium, places that correlate to activities such as karate, dance school, etc., clothing stores, craft stores, adventure park/arcade. Additionally, instead of nannies it’d be nice to have a daycare center.
I would also like to have an opportunity to create lots (e.g. retail shops, bars etc) both manageable by characters that I add to the world and NPC. I know it's a lot to ask in the beginning so maybe at the launch of the game most of them are managed by NPC but after the launch there would be an option to manage the lots by a playable character.. there could be a window where an owner of every lot is written and it could be NPC or my character and maybe by using cheats I could change who is the owner of the lot so that eventually all lots would be manageable by all of my characters so that I would be able to control the town. And if thinking about gameplay maybe you could actually buy a lot from other characters or NPC and become an owner I like the idea that every lot is owned by someone and isn't just a mysterious place where random people are working.. and for me who likes to control the town and fill it with my characters it would be nice to be able to control it too
Another idea I've thought about is having gallery in the town that you can rent and where you could show/sell your artwork etc. Would be nice for Paras who are artists to showcase their work. Maybe it would also apply for photographers, designers and crafters. And would be nice to have lots where some famous or starting Paras could hold concerts, autograph sessions, performances etc
Libraries where you can only read or borrow unpublished books that cannot be found elsewhere but you have to return them (otherwise penalties and the book will also disappear from the para's inventory). Banks (get loans, life insurance, pension insurance), gas stations. Clothes shops with new clothes that cannot be found in the paramaker (in order to encourage the player to go to town).
I would like a police station, a fire station, a town hall, a hospital, a bakery, a florist, a shopping center, clothes shops (for men, women and children), restaurants, a florist, a cinema/hall theater (not a rabbit hole for cinema please 🙏). Sports stadium (football), skating rinks.
The thing most missing from the list, of course, is a school, but I suspect that's because schools are an obvious given. The second thing most missing from the list has been mentioned by a lot of people here: a community centre. I reckon that's a must, and would add soooooo much gameplay and variety for things to do. It could have a player chosen and editable schedule and have such a range of things happening there: Lessons: dance classes, art classes, craft classes, maintenance classes, sewing classes, all sorts of how to classes. Activities: amateur theatre, choirs, yoga/pilates, taekwondo/karate, dances (old time for old people, discos for kids). Markets: trash 'n treasure (Paras can bring stuff to sell - could be done with a special trash 'n treasure box, craft market (Paras could sell stuff they've made), farmer's market (Paras could bring their home-grown produce), Food market (Paras could bring their home baking). Meetings: After considerable development, if the game develops in such a way that we have various communities, perhaps meetings could happen for some of those communities, eg. shop owners, school parent meetings, environmentalist meetings, etc. Parties: Perhaps the community centre could be a place for weddings, major birthday parties, even funeral life celebrations Other Events: Festivals, seasonal events, Halloween, Christmas events, player chosen events. This could be a major feature, the community centre might be many different venues and various purpose built rooms in on the same lot or in the same building, so several things could be happening at once. The player could choose from amongst all the different possible events/lessons/activities markets, chose the schedule and regularity of these events (eg craft market every Saturday morning), individual families could book for their own parties. This could really give modders some freedom too. Dancing and yogo etc might be a LOT of animation, but if modders were allowed to add activities, they could also animate them, so that modders could add a lot of content here if the background tools were provided to enable this. Even if some of these things end up with their own purpose-built venues eventually with development, this would be a great way to add some variety ingame in the meantime, until that happens. :-)
This may be implied with the "seasonal market" option, but I think a farmers market would be a wonderful addition. Parafolks could rent out booths to sell their hand made crafts or produce from their farm/home garden.
Maybe some sort of thrift shop with discount and used things. Also a Daycare that be run from a home or a public building.
Furniture shopping would be fun! I know it's probably too realistic for most people, but I think it would be so cool to have to go and buy a couch ya know? Or a microwave. I had this idea for build mode aswell where you build your house, decorate it and then when you go into live mode the house is bare except for moving boxes. Then you go into the lounge, click unpack box, and the furniture slowly loads into place as the para unpacks. Could be really cool to buy a new coffee table, bring it home in a box you know? Maybe to even assemble it! That's just my kind of tedious gameplay though lol. I know it's probably too much for most players lol.
I also like the idea of having furniture shops! Maybe later we will also be able to own a furniture shop and decorate some furniture, different interior objects, like pillows and paintings, with our own pictures that we can add to the game and sell them. It would be fun to create shops with unique style and atmosphere (e.g. some cute shop with little things maybe with cat theme or some elegant rich furniture shop)
A splash park for kids and toddlers would be so cute! With cafes and a little walking path/hiking trail? Mum and Dad could push the pram along the path? And I reckon Carnivals would be fun! Not massive theme parks, but like, show games, jumping castles, merry go rounds, face painting, putting zoo. Or like, an indoor play centre? Or maybe a sports centre? With basketball, indoor cricket, racketball, indoor tennis? You could apply for a membership and get a discount on smoothies or something? Hire a personal trainer? Probably too much for a base game though lol
I would love it if there were restaurants, museum and so on in the game, that is to say community lots where there's something to do and that the player can build himself (if they want to). They would be great to make the town feel alive.
With the relationships aspect, say you're having spousal issues or broke up/got broken up, or a death in the para-family. I think it would be really cool if there was a "therapist" that when you choose to go to them, it helps work through your problems and increases your mood improvement over time with more sessions. Just a thought for mental health of the paras! ❤️
Really good Idea !
So many I can think of, but I would love to have clothing stores and furniture stores for my Para to shop at! Great work team!! ❤
As someone who loves to spend all my time in a library, a library/bookstore lot really appeals to me. Especially if we’re able to give it that special cluttered used bookstore look — disorganized racks, narrow shelves, and possibly time-wasting interactions like “browse books” where a para could just wander around and randomly read bits of different books.
If it's all open like in Sims 3, I'd love to see a store for everything. Video Games, Movies, Grocery store- like a little shopping center to get everything at. Also normal emergency services, maybe cops that actually arrest Paras for doing bad things... the possibilities are endless!!!
I love all the ideas that people have! I'm excited that we finally get to talk about this aspect of the game. Has anyone mentioned a furniture store? In the post, it's mentioned that one idea is that some items can be passed down and grow to have special meaning. What if these items weren't available in build mode, but had to be obtained else where?
Restaurants, Gyms, mental & physical health facilities, public pools, parks, craft stores ( could totally be in a mall with clothing stores, grocery stores, cinema’s etc.).
I would love to see stuff like a video game store, or a store for board games/card games. Generic stuff of course but could add to the nerdy aspects of Paras.
Awww animal shelter would be great !
Police! I kind of miss the burglars in The Sims, but where they really missed the ball was the ability for windows to open so the burglars would come in through the windows. I had a mod in TS2 that allowed the windows to open because the code was there, it was just disabled. Law offices and courthouses (to kind of tie in with above). Your Paras would need to appear in court for committing a crime, and depending on how it goes, may have to spend time in jail (another service). Lawyers and courthouses could also come into play for divorce and custody arrangements, or even probate when your paras die so that the inheritance is divided among the heirs. Hospitals that actually mean something. Sick paras may have to stay for awhile, but simple illnesses may just require outpatient care, or a visit to an on-site pharmacy.
What town services and businesses would you like to see in-game? Town hall and other government related services, like postal office. Probably in later updates, we could get expanded options, like having various town offices, like courthouse, law office, finance office and so on Different social services, like orphanage, animal shelter, retirement house, community center, place for weddings, shelter for parafolks who are without home, funeral service and graveyards, charity and services for disabled parafolks Then I was thinking about different types of non profit organisation, like organisation of people who help elders or charity related organisation. Workplace rabbitholes should be functional and offer different services, so it would depend on the included rabbitholes (but lets say we will get news office - our parafolks could give a tip for a story, they could send articles and so) Hospital and smaller GP clinic, dentist clinic, opthamology clinic, nutricionist clinic and chemist. With inclusion of disabled parafolks, it could be also rehabilitation clinic and physiotherapist / occupational therapist clinic. For mental related stuff, psychologist and therapists (this could be possibly part of community center, that could offer musicotherapy or artherapy). With later updates, we could get more specific clinics, like blood transfuse clinic where our parafolks could donate blood, or plastic chirurgy clinic. Prisons or more friendly detention center - probably in later updates, but they could be playable. Different types of markets and shops for ingredients (like supermarket, butcher, 24/7 shop, winery, more specialised shop), clothes shop (again, different types, dressmaker and tailors little shop, clothes for everyone, cheap clothes, more luxur clothes, underwear shop and so on), clockworker, keyworker, toy shop, electronics, music shop, game shop, shop with cosmetics and hygiene stuff, furniture shop, shop with office stuff, jewerly and so on. Later we could get functional shopping center Restaurant, bar, pub, cafe, library, swimming pool, cinema, gym, museum, art gallery, sightseeings, botanical garden (later zoological garden), theatre... some of these places would have entry fee
A graveyard would be so good!
So I think it'd be great to assign jobs to the neighbors or have neighbors in the job roles. Like in S4 there seems to be NPCs for every job and when you get to know Sims they tell you. I want to be arrested by John Lakermin who lives 3 houses down and has 3 kids and a gold digging wife to care for. I want to buy books at the bookstore and chat for hours with Sebastian about his son and other common interests.
Police department: burglaries, disturbances, etc; Movie theater, Medical clinic or hospital: various emergencies from common cold/flu to pregnancy to broken bones, etc. or maybe emergency response via ambulance, bank: loans, mortgages, etc, Pool cleaner; plumber, electrician, contractor for serious repairs.
All of the above, please! The more services/places to go, the better! (within reason, of course)
I would love a bank and personal finance system.
I would love something like this as well.
Shopping centre- where people can change or create different shops, police stations, ATM or bank, bike shop, car yard, mechanic
gyms with personal trainers, rehabilitation/spa, coaches and stuff!
I really like realism in my games so I think Paras should have to go to a store to buy groceries, clothing, etc but I recognise that not everyone enjoys this playstyle so perhaps it could be an option in the settings whether or not things are instant? Sort of like an optional inventory. Especially with clothing, buying it at a store could then unlock the asset in the Paramaker for that household?
Would love to see Funeral Directors/Embalmers get a cool job in a game! As well as cemetery specialists! As someone who works in these services I have found that funerals have always been lacking in many other simulation games so I would love to see one fleshed out! Cremations, burials, for humans, pets, all of it! It’s a sad time usually but it doesn’t need to be, death also brings celebration to the life a para could have lived! It should be something that is just important as a birth and can be associated with a ceremony or even chill private service like weddings and such. I’d love to help if you have any questions!
A mechanic - and police !
Agreeing with others, police! Criminal behavior should really be a thing! Having theives, maybe even murder? Fights, drunk cells. If they do graffiti and get caught, etc! So many fun variables
Second this. Totally agree with the criminal behavior!
Charity shop/thrift store Soft play centre Children's entertainer Therapist Artist's retreat Kids classes (forest school?) Animal trainer Theatre (with ballets, plays, concerts etc) Street artists/performers Street food stands Banksy or equiv. Mayor Bird lady Ruins (protected historical monuments) Allotments/community gardens The tip/junkyard Adventure playground Campsite Nature reserve Farm Zoo Listed/protected residential buildings paras can live in Historian Spiritual leader (nondescript) Carer Meals on wheels Nursing home Community centre (with bingo nights, crap live music, karaoke, toddler morning, yoga classes, support groups and so on)
I love the charity shop idea. Somewhere you can donate old clothing and furniture, as well as purchasing things second hand more cheaply.
Police! I miss when there was robbers in sims. Daycare!
Honestly, all of the above!!! I liked a lot of the Sims 3-like town service locations (library, salon/tattoo parlor, bar/pub, gym, etc.) but would also love a dedicated daycare place, as well as a little market that has different shops/stalls every day or every few days that sells certain things you can only find there. I'd also love a community center, maybe that has a cafe, gym, and daycare service in there already. Maybe a community center that has different events or crafts for kids to do. Or little workshops to learn a new skill for cheap.
Lol I want all of them! Maybe we should pool those by rank
The one thing that I would love to have would be a delivery system for stuff outside of food. For example, when paras buy something online they could get packages in a day or too from the post office (unless they pay more for expedited shipping). They could also go to the post office to send packages to friends and family.
I would love spas/salons where the para could leave feeling refreshed/relaxed etc. or have their appearance altered e.g. hair, nails. I'd also love a second-hand furniture store. In TS4 I often play the dumpster diving challenge where you can only own/use things you find in the dumpster. Having a second-hand furniture store would be great for this and for environmentally conscious, or less wealthy paras. I also like the idea of hobby/craft/board game/toy stores where paras could buy little items to improve their skills or have fun alone or with friends/family. Bookstores would be lovely too, especially if you had to buy some books to fill bookshelves rather than them being decorative. They could be for fun or to improve skills. Of course grocery and clothes stores too. It'd be great if there was some sort of community hall lot type where there could be lots of classes and groups for all ages e.g. play group, bingo, yoga, cooking classes, bake sales, car boot sales. I'd be genuinely happy with most of this being rabbit holes. As long as there are lots of options and they have an impact on your para. Just look at BitLife!
Police! And with that, a station in town and detectives. So if someone steals something, you can call or go in person and they can possibly track them down and get your stuff back. This could also be a career? I also think streaming services and subscription channels on the TV, mobile etc. to give better moods for what certain paras might prefer. I also think we should still be able to edit the hair at home. The hairdresser option should just be to make your hair nicer? Or maybe shorter? If there is hair growth in this game, that would be sick!
YES. I agree about police. And it would be nice if it affected not only those who have a career of detectives. In TS4 we could investigate crime that we can't do when we play our characters and there was no police around and no possibility to be caught for stealing etc or to be someone from whom something was stolen. Would be nice if there were more mischievous / evil actions in the game which you could be charged a fee or sent to jail for some time (without something very serious of course). It would add more realism to the game.
I would love to be able to build community lots with different services! I really like building community lots with many small shops, tiny alleyways, maybe even flats above the shops - so it would be great if you could make for example a cozy cafe, a bookshop and a second hand store on one lot. I would actually prefer the possibility of this to a lot of service types in the initial version! :)
IT'S HERE!!! Town services and businesses! #1 wish: I want complete control over who's assigned NPC jobs. This is very very important to me. I cannot express how frustrating the Sims 4 interface is for NPCs. I tried so hard to make a biker bar with a specific bartender, and it took jumping through SO many hoops. Ideally, I could have an interface to lock in either personality types or specific Paras for specific services. I love going deeply into setting up businesses and services that my Paras can use. LOVE it. I don't necessarily want to play as those businesses, but I neeeeed to be able to design them down to the smallest detail to add flavor and depth to my town. It is one of my greatest joys (and one of my greatest frustrations with TS4). 🛒 What town services and businesses would you like to see in-game? Firefighters are amazing. Police, too. Both have a purpose that can be expanded on over time, and they add a feeling of depth to the game for me. I don't need to have a fire station or police station at first, but they would be amazing eventually. Grocery store is a physical locale I would like to see. Something about it just makes me happy. Libraries. I LOVE libraries. I love librarians. I spent more time in Sims libraries than any other public lot (though part of that was that I could read skill books faster there). It's also one of my favorite things irl. It would be really cool to have the ability to create a mall -- a large space with smaller stores. Clothing stores, a food court, etc. Reasoning: I love having access to all food types (Chinese, Mexican, Indian, etc) and clothing types (high end, goth, thrift, wedding), but creating a full building for each of these is not feasible. I prefer to make full buildings for my favorites (ice cream parlor, bakery, 50s diner, tea parlor) and want an area where I can fill the other slots in bulk so I can still access delicious fried rice when I want it or give my goths a place to shop but don't have to design more than one modest room. Also, stuff like a bookstore. Maybe someday a zoo. (Animated animals that you can't interact with, like the bird spawners in Sims games.) That would be awesome. >_> But obviously not right now. Players are going to build lots for everything they can whether or not it's functional. Here are a few things I've put in my towns that I would love to see with some sort of (even minor) functionality: prison, movie theater, children's indoor playspot, sports fields, skating rink, bowling alley, school, farm, gas station, cat cafe. A pet store would be really fun. I never used the gym, but I was reasonably interested in sports fields. Those had a certain level of engagement for me. Sports have more story and personality, whereas gyms are "whelp, it's time to grind stats." You should absolutely have to go get any tattoo that you didn't originally put on your Para at their creation. For groceries, I think it's reasonable to either send a non-active Para with a grocery list AND/OR have the option to order groceries before heading to the store and just pick them up for a small extra fee. You'd still have to go out and see part of the town, but you wouldn't have to spend as much time (and being able to add items to a grocery list from, like, a meal planning menu would be ideal). One thing I will say, I much prefer having items out to click on to buy, like a rack of different fish, and I click on the fish to purchase it, or fruit and I click on the fruit I want. Sometimes, I want that experience. Other times, my Para might be centimeters from starvation, and I need groceries Right Now. I'd love to be forced to get out for clothes shopping. It'd be amazing if I could design specific items for stores to offer. (Designing full outfits would be okay, but I'd hate having multiple Paras wandering around town in the same outfit.) A farmer's market would be fun to have in the late summer and fall, at harvesttime. Especially if players could set up their own stall. A craft faire, for crafty Paras. A "haunted house" around Halloween. Custom designed festivals or town events would be cool. I'd kind of like to see the option to choose which seasonal festivals or holidays a town celebrates. I'd also like Paras to be able to check off the holidays they celebrate, b/c it felt a little pushy in Sims 4 when holidays were kind of forced on players. I would like to be able to tag lots or neighborhoods in such a way that Paras with specific tags are the ones who you'll find there. A pink teashop is not going to be the hardcore goth hangout. An industrial underground club is not going to be the knitting club's preferred venue. I probably have more thoughts, but that's the bulk. Thanks, y'all!
Added note: the thing that brought me the most joy about playing a detective in TS4 was seeing criminals in the jail area. I thought that was SO cool.
cinema, cooking class, painting class, daycare, private detective, bookstore.. i don't know if those count as service, i just thought it would be nice to have them.
I love all the options!! I think it would also be fun to have an adoption centre as well. You can have the para choose to adopt a baby, toddler, or an older kid. I think that would be fun for those that want to do a family play through
Oooh a clothing store, electronics store, a book store!
I like the idea of having a gym your Paras can go to. I’d love for our Para’s to have the ability to start their own business 😃
I just wanted to add that I really want paras to be able to work at local businesses and have their own business (hopefully out of their own home or at a public place). I also really like the idea of seasonal markets or some event where they can go and run a food cart or sell items, offer services, etc. Anything that gets our paras more involved so it has that community feel.
Snap. Me too.
I’m not sure if this 100% counts as a service, but I was thinking of a hospital somewhere, which would be open for a mass variety of things, going from routine/general health checkup (maybe more encouraged if the para is more conscious or has a long term illness/condition) to more immediate procedures/practices, like A and E if a para has broken a bone, labour units for pregnant paras (possibly even different ways to conceive as well, but unsure if this could work due to things like time constraints and age rating). To add on to this, ambulances/nurses could come to a paras home if it is a more dangerous injury or for things like if a para wanted a home birth. Not sure if this would all be possible but I liked this idea
Many suggestions here are great! My favourites that are not on the poll are a zoo (maybe with a shop where you can buy souveniers), a spa where you can get massages and do different relaxing stuff, a beauty salon for makeup and nails etc. and different restaurants for different cultures. :) Most importantly, theese are just suggestions and are not required for base game, I am grateful for anything that is already in the poll and I know that everything will probably take a long time to be included... so take you time, we're all happy to wait some time for it to be complete but these things definetly don't need to be all in base game <3 (quality over quantity is basically what I'm tryna say haha)
what about activities for young paras like a skate park or like someone else mentioned, a rec center of sorts. there could be chances to gain new skills as a teen or young adult like skateboarding, rock climbing, basketball, rollerblading, etc. Outside of stores or in farmers markets there could be kid paras with little “girl scout cookie” like booths or their own little stand for something, like a lemonade stand that their parent or older sibling helps them set up
i think a rec centre that offers various town events or u can use as a party venue would be pretty cute tbh. like a village hall type vibe where you can do classes or big town events
I definitely would like a way to purchase food in-town, as a way to support "run-away" or "homeless" gameplay (vending machines, or that somewhat-sketchy hot dog sales man whom everyone calls CMOT Dibbler...) On the flip side, I would like a delivery service to help support "shut-in" gameplay, with the extra benefit of the delivery service being a possible side gig for player paras. The service could simply be bike delivery - a green jacket and one of those giant square backpacks, and you've got a delivery person. I also voted for public library, because that most is a must. The bathroom access alone is worth it.
Upvoted for CMOT Dibbler...
I would love to have a medical clinic that you visit when your para is sick - but that could even (in the future maybe) be run by yourself if you are a doctor.
I know this would normally be a rabbit hole, but imagine if there was a doctor's office exam table object and there was a doctor NPC that stood by the table and you could click on it to interact with the doctor in order to get a check-up. Doesn't need to be any fancy animations, and I wouldn't mind if the doctor NPC just stood there idling.
I like the idea of going to a tattoo parlor or hairdresser to change those things, but it would be nice to also have a cheat code that lets you go into the paramaker and do that without needing to go anywheere
There could be unlimited access when the Para is first made and then limited access until certain objects are bought during play with an option or cheat to toggle between them.
Pseudo-Rabbit Holes: Rabbit holes, instead of being building shells, could be placeable door objects. You would interact with the door and get the interaction options. The para would enter the door and then come back out of it after completing the action. The door would also make the room it is connected to pitch-black and hidden from the player. This allows us to maybe make a lobby, some public restrooms, and a cafe as well as the building exterior but still have some rabbit hole functionality
I had mentioned a pseudo-rabbithole in my comment but this is exactly what i had in mind! I would love this feature in game!
Food delivery! It's become a really big part of things with the lockdown and all that. And with the service being independent from the business you would only need one bike/motorcycle/car/delivery person in-game.
One thing I think is important is for our own paras to have jobs that NPCs would normally have. I want the ability to have a mail carrier para! I want the ability to fill up all roles with playable characters as well as npc depending on gameplay. And I think having the option to shop both online and in an actual store will make different play styles both work in the game. Wanna just change outfits to whatever clothes you want whenever? Shop online and get it delivered. Want to have to go to a store and shop there? There's a clothing store right in town! Perfect for everyone and this would apply to groceries, furniture, and everything else that can be both shipped or bought in store.
ALSO A DOCTORS OFFICE! When my para gets sick or is pregnant I want them to see an actual doctor, not just order medicine
I would love to see trash men/women pick up the trash and our paras’ trash keep piling up if we don’t take it out on time. Maybe in a future update if we get non-rabbithole lots (or even pseudo-open lots), maybe there could be doctor(s) and nurse(s)? I know a lot of players play with pets so maybe pet sitters/trainers? Also gardeners would be nice. I would love personal cooks and butlers. Also it would be great if there were an item to summon them to automatically come to a lot. Example, in Sims 2 there’s a custom stove that automatically summons a cook to a lot so you don’t have to actually hire anyone. You can effectively run a college dorm, nursing home or a public living space without having to do anything but place an item. So if we could hire any kind of worker, that’d give players more options in what kind of lots we could build.
Also for a future supernatural pack, we could have a potion seller too?
It might be interesting if there were markets in the city where you can buy, sell and trade vintage items, books and vinyl records. It would also be nice to have some shops to visit in which to shop interacting with the shopkeeper. Among the various shops I would put a Coffee-shop ahahah I'm joking XD
I would love to be able to create any type of store/shop that a Para could own - shoes, clothes, books, unique items, stuff they make, etc. Police would be great as well. Restaurants would be really great!
I would like the ability to micromanage everything, to pick and choose who does any given service role and to build all the different types of community/business lots from scratch. Even if there are rabbit hole lots I'd like to be able to customize the exterior of the building and then just put down a rabbit hole door or something like that. Edit: Also the ability to design all service/career uniforms.
A lot of people are suggesting pretty niche and specific community lot locations. Which is awesome. But I want to make a list of objects for lots that I think are the most basic and useful in a wide variety of locations: 1) A cash register object that allows you to check out items that you bought on the same lot, with a cashier NPC 2) A groceries item object that you can click on to add groceries to your shopping inventory 3) A clothing rack object for buying additional outfits beyond what you initially select in paramaker 4) Bookstore shelf for buying books 5) A commercial espresso/coffee/tea counter with a server NPC 6) A commercial bar object for drinks with a bartender NPC 7) A DJ booth commercial object that has a DJ NPC and causes paras to dance near the object 8) A Front desk check in counter object with an NPC sitting in front of it. This is useful for modders in order to add specific services and actions that can be performed via a basic front desk 9) Vending machine object
In general, I would think of what interactable OBJECTS you as the team want to make rather than what types of community LOTS you want to make. Because I love having options and making multi-use lot types that are FLEXIBLE and allow for creativity when building.
Maybe a rec center with different activities (e.g. sports teams, cooking classes, dance classes, art classes, etc.). Activities could vary by age or be for all ages. Paras could build skills, have fun, and meet other paras there :)
YES! There could be ads in the newspaper/on the internet. Paras could sign up for classes. These classes and activities could also be part time jobs for Paras. More ideas: Taekwondo, amateur theatre, yoga, wine tasting, games night, if there's no market implemented (I hope there is in time) a trash 'n treasure sale, learn an instrument, craft (pottery/sewing/woodwork/paper tole/scrapbooking etc) Some things could be regular, some things could be random, perhaps the player could choose the schedule/frequencies. The trash 'n treasure could be cool. If you play rotation, families could have a 'trash 'n treasure box' that they put things in, then when the trash 'n treasure time comes, then could all bring their boxes to sell.
I love making my own stores, so the ability to build working retails stores would be great! Currently in the sims 4, if you want a retail store to shop at, you have to pick a sim to own the store and put money into it and open it, and honestly id like to be able to just create a store without going through those hoops. I like the option to own and operate a store, if you want that game play, but I also want to be able to make stores for the function of shopping at them, not operating them, if that makes sense.
Car lots, car shops, law enforcement, towing service/lots (get your car towed for parking in the wrong area), a concert hall, bus station, movie theater, park, skating park, bakery, community center, arcade, café, and what others have mentioned . I know that not everything can be done but I would love it if it could come later.
Oh yeah car lots, car shops and towing are good ideas!
I would LOVE a package delivery service feature built into the base game because it can be reused for many different purposes or items being delivered. I want to be able to order items on the computer, have to wait some in-game time like a full 24 hours, then a courier comes and places a generic cardboard box object on my front lawn. I then can click on this cardboard box object and all of the items I ordered are put into my inventory. This is necessary because it adds realism but also a reason to shop in town versus just ordering everything online all the time and getting it immediately. The delayed gratification of ordering something online adds some challenge to the game because you don't get the item right away.
I would really like to have to buy new clothes in a store rather than just add them in paramaker. Or at least have an option you can choose for that. I'd also like to have to pay for a new haircut, makeup, accessories, etc (after you initially set them up in paramaker). For me that would make for much more engaging gameplay since you have to save up your money and make meaningful choices about how to spend it. I like to start off with no money and gradually accumulate it (i.e., rags to riches) and if clothing & hair is free to change it's just not as interesting to see the progression of your character.
Retail or something like a mall (or outdoor mall), carnival that comes to town during different seasons, a bookstore that holds author signing events or poetry nights. When animals are introduced, perhaps even things like a petting zoo or zoo, or an equestrian center!? Also haha a bingo hall! Or community center that has scheduled events like that, roller skating, school dances, etc.
Controversial opinion: I like these types of venues but I think many of these options (tattoo, grocery, market, hairdresser) would be fine as stalls or clickable shopfronts. I think that just letting the paras go out into the world and walk around is more important to gameplay than adding all these enterable buildings. Focusing on physical and social areas like parks and bars sounds better. That being said, I'd also love if paras had to go to the tattoo parlor to get piercings and tattoos, especially if they can be joined with reacting paras (anxious parents, whooping friend). Same for shopping, maybe "new" clothes or fashions appear that can only be bought, not found in paramaker I also think that having paras walk around together and gain social and entertainment from these actions regardless of them being actively "in conversation" with the other paras would be fun too. I'm also a fan of rabbit holes where we get entertaining text box notifications or options about our para's activities As far as home services, nannies, post workers, and food delivery seems pretty standard. Maybe stand out by adding care workers for elderly paras, or tutors for grade and high schoolers. I noticed in the last post that you would have paras clean their dishes immediately. Maybe save the drama of coding cleaning people altogether by making those paras clean their messes themselves! I think that in some rural areas, people have to drive to their post office to get their mail and packages, that would be interesting if such a town was available. Or if the para doesnt have a house and mailbox on the lot yet they must go into town to get their stuff. The shop for food vs delivery vs food always available is so controversial... I personally hate grocery shopping so having grocery delivery should be available, but have the grocery store available for paras to go to. Maybe they get better deals or fresher fruits and veggies that way? I'm honestly not sure, wouldnt want to be you guys deciding on that one
I think I would make a distinction here: Buyable service = rabbithole Buyable goods and objects = building with a cashier and community lot objects for buying things
An actual "Social Worker" type service where not only to they just show up and take kids away, but you can also work with them to regain children or adopt from a pool that were taken after meeting the requirements
A bakery would be nice to buy cakes and pastries and if we cloud run a bakery it would be amazing
Yes yes yes!
Police. Ambulance, Medics and Doctors.. Nation Gaurd .. where you could be a Grocer one day and Army Cadet the Next . The idea of having your community grow by what you and others do so if there's no police officers criminal appear . If there's no fire dept disasters happen . Kitty's get stuck up trees etc. It would be really great if people could design items that could be sold in the stores for credits that you can buy in other shops .. or if your sim makes something to be able to sell them at local market or online like parabay .. as the paras create and learn you get richer by knowledge and experience also by creating your own business. As you expand you could open your own shop
Because not everyone may want to go to the grocery store every time they need food: option to either go to the GROCERY STORE or ORDER ONLINE (meaning you could click a laptop or phone and choose order groceries, then from there either scroll through a list of foods to select or if doing a more generalised version then you’d just skip to the groceries getting delivered.
Additionally, there's ordering for delivery or for pickup, same as restaurants.
Police department
The idea of seasonal markets got me thinking. What about seasonal entertainment like fairground pop ups, Halloween events, and harvest festivals, etc? I think that would make the town feel a lot more lived in. Having said that, my main concern is that the town lots don't feel empty. I'd like to see them full of npc paras just doing their thing so it doesn't feel like the lot was just waiting for the play to click and play on it. Like, for example, if there's a library - maybe have weekly library readings for the local kid paras, or book week once a year.
While this is not exactly a specific service...MIXED-USE BUILDINGS!!! These have been around for centuries! Whether it is the small-town business owner who lives above his shop or the apartments above a retail complex in a city, these are important and can have very specific historical, cultural, and even ecological uses. Have the owner of a cafe live in the only unit above his store or have a dozen people who live in the apartments above a grocery store. And those only have to be 2 story buildings, I'm not even talking about anything like a skyscraper.
For the apartment, this would probably be easier to pull off with rabbithole businesses. Or else enable businesses for any lot. Lockable doors are a must for cases like the cafe, or a marker to designate specific rooms "public".
Police... because no police is just not realistic play
I would love to see pretty much everything listed above, along with as many active careers as possible. If not in the base game because I know that that's a lot to ask for for the initial release, but if there was an expansion that later on introduced (more than three lol) active careers, that would be amazing. I find them so fun and one of my favorite things to do in *cough* other simulation games lol.
I would love police + maybe overnight jail stays and bail (or some type of financial repercussion) for more mischievous or evil paras. Maybe community service (rabbithole) can be sentenced. Just for minor crimes (like spray painting, maybe certain mischievous or mean interactions have a chance of being caught, obviously no serious crimes that won’t be in game)
for other services other people have such great ideas! Only other thing I can think of would maybe be spa/place to get nails done. Also perhaps a gym - both of which could be rabbit holes to start. Maybe could group all the personal care stuff like hairdresser, nails, barber, massage/wellness/yoga, into one lot type like how there are buildings in real life where individuals can rent out rooms and do their business? My tattoo artist used to be a part of a shop but when she broke out on her own, she did this (rents space in a Phynix building - noticed many hair/nail people doing this also last time I went)
Town services - I LOVE the animal shelter and library ideas. What about fairgrounds? Like how small towns will have carnivals or corn mazes? Or adoption events for animals, or swap meets/garage sales? All could also happen in a large community park/recreation center type lot too though. Summer camp/winter camp if school has breaks like in real life and paras need to send children to cheaper care than a nanny? Could build skills automated at camp while with nanny, you pick what your young paras can do at home? Community theater/movies on the lawn could also take place on a schedule vs. being a stand alone building/lot. “Community Center” feels more welcoming and participatory than town hall (makes me think of paperwork/fines)
I would love to see a town that is fully interactive or at least more realistic and not 85 to 95% full of dumpy builds/stores that are just for looks like in other games (I'm sure you know what game I'm talking about so I don't have to say it) as it not fun if you can't interact with stuff, becomes then it becomes a very boring game when you visit any town or cities in-game play so I truly hope you'll not do that as much as that one thing I didn't like in another simpler game.
and with haircolors/styles it could be the same way, either use a cheat or go to the grocery store to buy a hair color, or to the hairdresser to ensure the end result is successful. There could be a hairstyling skill too.
I really like the idea of making more effort for clothes and such. Having everything open at the start but then having to save up money for new outfits or tattoos gives them more meaning. Also could maybe add in a hand-me-down system where if a previous para had a shirt as a kid it stays in the closet and the next generation could wear it. Also having cheats to unlock everything at all times or a setting could be a good way to do best of both worlds.
I like this. I would only add that perhaps clothes should also wear out over time, perhaps with 'x' number of wears.
For seasonal, it could be fun to hire out leaf clearing or driveway/path shoveling (maybe in future hire young neighbors or offer to help older paras with these)? Summertime, the only thing I can think of is pool cleaning? House painting? Springtime definitely something gardening related. If future worlds have different climates, it changes too! Like in a desert world, hiring out watering (only takes place in early morning or evening - if you contract cheaply maybe it impacts sleep if workers are noisy)? Or in a tropical world other types of work would be needed seasonally?
I think that all clothes/tattoos should be available when creating a new paraperson, and you could create multiple outfits if you wanted, but once you’re finished with the paramaker all clothes/tattoos/piercings should be bought from an actual store/tattoo parlor. There could be a cheat for changing/adding outfits via mirror or closet.
I think it'd be cool if stores were where you could save your clothes/tattoos. Like it's be available in the Paramaker but it's more convenient/better story making if they could go to a store to save presets.
I would love to see an option to combine businesses in one space: bar downstairs and a restaurant on the 2nd floor. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing banks/credit unions.
Maybe a Para could go to the bank and apply for a loan, or set up a savings that gains interest and can later be added back to the household funds. Ideally they would be inheritable in the case of the owner's death so that, for example, an orphan can keep the college fund their late parents set up.
School where you can actually be a teacher
I want all of them lol
I would LOVE shops for clothes. I think that’s a thing really missing from the Sims. You can just magically afford every outfit no matter whether your sim is broke! I think there could be a number of clothes available in PAM without unlocking them but also some specific ones that you have to get at a store. There could be a regular outlet and then also a fancy boutique with expensive clothes and jewelry! I think that would add so much realism and FUN to the game (Teenage Paras constantly window shopping and dreaming of affording outfits with their pocket money, adults taking their kids to go shop for new clothing etc.)
You could even gift clothes that way!
Everything mentioned, as I don't see that option
A hardware store might be nice. In case the Parafolk wants to DIY some renovations or repairs, or even new construction. And I agree that actual businesses and shops would be nice. Even fire services should have a firehouse. ETA, instead of flooding comments: A hospital would allow for a variety of services: ER, checkups, surgery (including plastic surgery), regular care for various various disabilities, mental health care, etc.
I think one feature that would be neat to have, and that would make the city feel more alive, is a sort of "relationship/reputation level" with public amenities/buildings. For example, eating at the same restaurant a lot could make the Para become a regular and get discounts on menu items. Or going the same bar every night will make the Para able to order more exotic drinks. Or going to the same mechanic every time your car breaks down can make them lend a car over to you while yours gets fixed. There are many ways this could be implemented, but essentially: going to the same place a lot can unlock more features as a reward for building trust. I think that'd be very dynamic and add more interactivity to otherwise static places! ❤️
One way to do this might be to tie it to relationship levels with the NPC. If they're consistently assigned there, relationships will gradually build through interactions. Then friendly Paras in NPC roles will automatically apply friend/family discounts. Alternately, a Para might be able to ask for a loyalty card that would unlock options when in their possession.
A cinema! And I'd love the options to have your own business, like a store or cafe you can manage. Other lots: a park, a beach, a community center where you can sign up for classes like art, dance, theater etc. Hairdresser and tattoo parlor could be merged and expanded into a beauty salon with massage, spa, maybe plastic surgery? A theme park (or one of those parks with rollercoasters and bungee jumping, I don't remember the name for it), a public pool with crazy slides etc.
Yes! I like this kind of idea, where Paras own and manage all these businesses, instead of NPCs. In fact, I really rather not have NPCs to be honest, if that's possible. Why can't all my Paras run all the businesses in the town, so that I can control the whole town? That way they would all have real jobs instead of rabbit hole jobs, when my current Para goes shopping, to the cinema, to the post office, to the doctor, to a restaurant or coffee shop, to dance classes, to school, to the animal shelter, to the driving school etc, they get to talk to people they know, that the player has created with personalities etc. That adds more flexibility to gameplay, so that we can choose which Para with with personality and quirks is behind the counter or serving people. For example in the animal shelter it could be the usual cat lady type of person, or it could be a cool dude like "Jackson Galaxy the Cat Daddy" (see YouTube). The player gets to decide. Sure we have to have NPCs available for everyone, but I'd like to have the option for my Paras to replace them over time, so that my whole village is controlled by me. If we have manageable school (in the future), player editable and designed shops and restaurants etc. This would be awesome gameplay, because it'd be different for every household, and perhaps the player could choose whether they go to work/school with various Paras, in order to manage these businesses, or help the Para make friends/choose subjects at school. I know the game can't initially release with these features, but it could head in that direction... :-)
Clothing shops, an aquarium, arcades, maybe a Ferris wheel on a dock? Ahhh. Maybe that's all too much, but I think I am already super engrossed in the idea of this being a real place, haha
nursery, bus/train station, theatre, little shops for hobbies, hiking routes and campings, social worker or homes for old people or for orphans, hospital
I think an orphanage is a neat idea. Could be used for an adoption system and could be a good solution for children in households where the adults die or leave. They'd automatically get sent there instead of disappearing or something.
I would love to have clothing stores in the game!
I am a strong believer that you should not have access to every single clothing item for free. I would love a clothing rack object that allows you to buy clothes.
I know it makes things more complicated with the game, but fewer rabbit holes for the town places too. I’d love to visit an actual tattoo shop and not just click on a building shell and be redirected to the Paramaker.
I'm totally fine with these places being rabbit holes at launch and then expanded into actual lots in future patches. All of the ideas here are amazing and I'd love to have them too, but we do need a functional game first.
Listen guys😅 When you put this kind of pull - I'm literally marking all of the options🤭
I want them all, all of them sound like great ideas.
Soup kitchen or sth like that, to help 'struggling parafolk' scenario be more realistic
Oh I love this idea! Food banks could complete this.
I would love to see game/entertainment venues and shops! also music venues that could double as bars/clubs.
I think it'd be cool to see law enforcement. Doing anything from getting pulled over for speeding, to stopping crimes like Jay walking, littering, etc.. Even just seeing their cars go by if they're on a patrol can make the town feel more lived in.
i want them all omg 😭
Gardener!
