Thanks so much everyone for helping us create our next Para. The results are in! He will be called Sebastian! He's a mysterious bad boy who loves cooking and he just arrived in town. He's now looking for work and wants to see what the town has to offer! Please don't share these results yet outside of here, we will make this public when we reveal Sebastian in the coming weeks!
You guys sent us so many great ideas for the extra details regarding his life. Léa, Anna, Christine and I had a lot of fun compiling them! Now, please help us and vote for your favorite details about Sebastian's life in the poll below! You can select multiple answers and the top 3 will be officially added to his bio!
Day and Night
In Paralives, the sunsets and sunrises are really nice to look at! Also, the movement of the sun is pretty realistic. In summer, days are longer and you can watch the sunset with friends late in the evening. However, in the winter, the nights are longer so it gets dark pretty early.

New Patreon Sales Tax
We wanted to give you an update on some changes that we’ll be seeing which may affect some of your pledges. Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st. Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $3 pledge, that would be between 12 cents and 33 cents. If you have questions, you should be able to find answers here. I love the fact that the paras have backstories.
You're literally saying that 'I just don't agree with the lifestyle', and by lifestyle you mean 'relationships, marriage and dating'. Disagreeing with gay marriage IS homophobic. If the fact that gay people have relationships with each other goes against your personal beliefs (your words), that is literally homophobia. I don't know what else to tell you.
I completely and absolutely agree with you. Wanting a sandbox experience doesn't make anyone homophobic. Wanting a more flexible world is a valid point. I personally believe his background is boring and cliche, with a very specific and a one-track-minded goal, leaving very little to the imagination. But, you know. HOw dare you.
I really like the idea of having a hidden treasure to look for. That makes the gameplay alot more interesting 😊
As a strait person I am picking up some homophobic vibes from the comments as well. If you are in the majority and believe in diversity think about how you can help those who aren't represented often or at all. Remember these first characters will be in everyone's game, these are everyone's Parafolk. I think its important to keep in mind we are creating interesting characters for the town and the community, not just ourselves.

I am a Christian and its not good to make fun of other people but i think it helps alot if the issue can be talk about with out shaming the other person. As no one here has talked about the issue so that is another problem?
I think the idea of him opening a vegan restaurant in town using herbs and spices that he's collected himself is a pretty fun idea!
A shame seeing all of these homophobic comments. It’s not like everyone’s going to be gay, why not be inclusive and chill tf out. It’s one character and not even confirmed, it will not ruin your gameplay, I promise. Some of you people really disgust me, it’s sad others can’t just be accepting.
Alex, if I may: I am happy you put a choice that has adoption in the story. I am an adopted child [albeit an adult now]; it made me smile to see that.

Well they’re npcs, of course they will have their own lives, not all of them will be able to date our character.
I love love love the name Sebastian , but I think the cooking is pretty boring. I’d rather him be a classic , charming sort of guy. A little nerdy. Gains confidence when he sets out on an adventure ! But treasure hunting has very little votes :( lol Basically, I wanted Milo from Atlantis 😆
I really love that we get so involved in the making of the game and polls like this are made, I feel more connected to the game. That Day cycle is also amazing, so excited for this game❤️
I liked the idea of him going on an adventure. Maybe he'll find the lady of his dreams somewhere abroad?

All these options are so great! I’m happy to see that everything but the name ended up being the ones I voted for.😅 Normally I love graffiti artist vibes, but in this case I actually think I’d like to see it as more of prominent characteristic for another para since I think too many “special” things about Sebastian could leave none of them in the spotlight, and it already makes sense for him to have prominent details/hobbies that involve cooking and family instead of adding more “big” hobbies, if that makes any sense. Who knows, though, maybe the graffiti thing will get voted and the team will incorporate it really well and I’ll completely change my mind! :D
Sebastian sounds like an interesting character so far. Most of my choices ended up being the least favored but I'll concede that I may have basic tastes lol. I'm happy with this result too though. Love the option to give Sebastian a husband! I'm hoping sexual orientation comes as an option in the parameter. (if there's an attraction system, maybe within those customization settings?) Also the day night cycle is looking good. Interested in seeing more of the outdoorsy settings but I love what was described here

So he's the Sebastian from Stardew Valley :D Maybe we need to add computer dev to the list :)
The 1st & 7th options work really well together for our "badboy". Sebastian is a famous undercover graffiti street artist. He has claustrophobia (from hoarder relatives) and prefers the outdoors. I'm thinking he rides a motorcycle to calm down from being inside a small space for too long OR to make a quick get away after spray painting for the THRILL! I really want to see him have a panic attack at work and have to leave his co-workers baffled.
Oh well you all just love the mysteriös bad boy archetype. I hoped for some more nuanced characteristic. Can't wait to make my own story though.

People are forgetting that bad boy was just his style, not his personality. Anyways I'm really rooting for vegan animal activist or single gay/bi dad. Just please don't fall in the bury the gays trope and give him a reason other than sadly dead husband for being single.

Well, I really appreciate the fact they are giving us an opportunity to name and write up something about characters. It's a bit of fun. Do I agree with everything? I usually don't, so nothing new there. But that is what should add spice to the character, with everyone's differing views... and THAT I love and appreciate. So, thanks devTeam for allowing for this.

Be honest, how many chose the name Sebastian because of Black Butler? Just curious. Anyways, I have to agree. I was a bit disappointed in the choices. We were given the option graffiti artist to go with the bad boy persona, but he was given cook as a hobby, though we were only given the option that he cooked with his grandma. All that aside, it's just a para we're coming up with, and so I'm not taking it too seriously. I won't die or anything, lol.
I somehow skipped over that it was just his looks. Maybe he doesn't even realize he gives that persona off. :)

I was torn between him cooking with his grandmother (which is sweet) and him having a secret that he will show you (which has my villain senses tingling and I want to know the secret!)
Lol why are people complaining about the second poll... The "mysterious bad boy" is his *look*, not his entire personality. These are just fun unique details to find out about his personal life & interests.
It's unfair to call it complaining and also it only makes sense that he's done something "bad" or out of the norm to then make him a bad boy and the poll doesnt help with that at all. Even the first one about graffiti does explain how he can have a reputation as a bad boy because of that.

Can’t wait to meet Sebastian! I like that there were attributes for him to have for his personality that aren’t bad boyish even though his appearence is a bad boy look. Because even if he does end up with bad boy background story he can still come from an upbringing that seems not very badass like and hold on to that along with his mischiefs ;P I like that the night time is pitch black and not a greyish-black or navy black :) i can only imagine what the moon and stars will look like! Wondering if we will get moon phases? It might just be my screen setting but I feel the peak daytime blue sky it seems a bit too electric blue?

I'd really rather he not had a husband and his sexuality is left for the player to decide based on their playstyle. I am really glad with him having learned from his grandma and being outdoorsy it just fits nicely and make him more well rounded 😍

The way we're influencing this character makes it sound like a dating sim. XD I like it! A widowed single dad that likes to hike for herbs and spices that wants to open a restaurant after learning to cook from his grandmother. :)

Other than the first one (and even then it is kinda tame) none of them seem like very bad boy things. Maybe a bad boy chef could be a Marco Pierre White type and maybe the secret dish is something less than legal? That could technically fit.

Q: Can we choose if the town we live in is in the north or the south? So the farther North it is, the brighter it is in the summer, and the darker it is in the winter! In the most northern part of my country, we have midnight sun in the summer and complete darkness in the winter :)

I'll be honest. The fact that a "bad boy" named Sebastian won. Is disappointing. What will be more disappointing if if the single dad backstory wins I don't want the first male para to just be a Dream Daddy reference.

I love the dad storyline and the grandma's boy storyline, but these don't fit the bad boy storyline...
Those are my two favorite story lines as well! Who knows...I’m sure there are plenty of “bad boys” out there who are single parents and/or love their grandmas! 🙂

I love how he's a single widowed father of an adopted child but can we not make his dearly departed a "husband"? Can it just be his "partner", make his sexuality ambiguous, so it'll be open for both women and men to start a romantic relationship with him?
It could be ambiguous anyway because having a husband doesn’t automatically tell you Sebastian’s sexual orientation. Just my two cents.
