A Closer Look at the Community Center + Gameplay Detailsš + Live Mode Stream next Tuesday šļø
Hello everyone, LĆ©a here today for my last Patreon post before the launch! Iām going to officially introduce you to my favorite build: the Community Centeršæand talk to you more about some gameplay details we added to the city.
This post is for Patrons only. Please do not share it. Thank you! š
Live Mode Stream Next Tuesday!
Howās it hanging? Itās Rina coming in for the special announcement of a Live Mode Stream on Tuesday, May 5th at 11AM ET on Discord! Weāll be living our best life all around town, following quests, and checking out even more improvements we didnāt see last time 𤩠This will be the last Patreon-only stream before release, so come party with me!! šItās been such a pleasure hanging out with you all during these streams š
The Community Center, a Unique Location in the Old Town
Letās start with the preliminary sketches for the building's design. Since Melino is a European medieval city, we wanted to include Gothic ruins alongside the castle. The idea would be to create a public park, a space for everyone to enjoy, reclaimed by nature and by the residents of the city, while still reflecting the beauty of the original build.
Preliminary sketches of the ruins, with reference pictures of existing buildings that inspired me for this lot.
Like always, the final result in-game is a little different from the original design.
Side view of the building.
Back view of the building.
Top view of the building.
The wall of broken windows at the back of the building.
Inside the Community Center, you will find books that each represent a bundle of objects or money to donate in exchange for rewards.
Interior view of the Community Center with the donation books, and nature reclaiming the space.
A view of the inside of the building from the back, with broken pillars and a lot of plants everywhere.
In order to get your reward, simply go to the community center with the bundleās objects in your inventory and donate them by interacting with one of the books.
Here Iām donating mushrooms for the Food bundle.
The menu for the donations with the starting bundles.
We want to add more content to the Community Center, better bonuses, and reasons to donate to the bundles through the gameās updates. Thereās a lot we can do with it later on!
More Interactions in Town
In addition to fixing bugs, one of our main objectives when delaying the game was to add interactions and activities around town to make you want to explore and interact with the world outside of your Parafolks house. For example, itās now possible to get a free snack from the broken vending machine!
My Para is not really comfortable with it, but itās āfreeā food, so itās hard to resistā¦
Free snacks are not the only thing we added for our hungry Paras! You can now eat the mushrooms you are harvesting to fill your hunger bar. Can they make you sick? Only one way to find out. š (unless you are a mycologist in real life, then it should be easy for you!)
There is a new option to eat the mushrooms instead of collecting them.
The Hospital has a new feature! You can now āSeek Careā for freewhen you are sick from a virus or food poisoning.
My Parafolks in front of the Hospital, about to be treated for Mushroom Poisoning.
Thatās all for me. š§” Itās my very last Patreon post, but I will catch you all on Discord! I canāt wait for you to discover all the little secrets around Melino, just a couple more weeks to go! š
Have a wonderful weekend!

Lovvvve that the mushrooms are semi-accurate to real life. LOVE that. Also love the free healthcare!! And I'm excited for a little bit of a Stardew element in the form of the community center, it's so magical. The books are a little jarring (what if they get wet when it rains?!) but I'm still excited to maybe model a few infographic signs as an optional replacement. c:
this would be a beautiful wedding location!
Omg the interface is so neat and cuuute ! And i love the vibe of those ruins !
Thank you so much for this Lisbon-like thing in the game. I love it
<3 we have something like this in Lisbon since the 1755ās earthquake. Itās called RuĆnas do Carmo. Still with no roof and no repair besides security basics, we use our ruins for theatre and music shows (and all sorts of cultural stuff).
Every time I read "my last post" I feel kinda sad bacause I''l miss my friday readings, but also more and more excited!!!
Will this live stream also be added on here? I can't link my discord to this app for whatever reason and I hoping this stream will be available on here too later š
Yes, It will available here this Friday!
How do I watch the live stream video on Discord?
Do you know where discord live is i don't want miss it
Love the building and the books, but the books being left out in the open pulls me out of it a bit, even if rain isnāt an issue right now.
supermaket please
Lovin' the ruins! Reminds me of that old church-type building in Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom. Also, the little additions are great -- the conflicted look on that Para's face is hilarious, and I ain't complaining about the free healthcare either. So looking forward to this game!!
Ist das nicht Abbaye de Beauport ?
AHH! only three weeks and one day! I CAN TASTE IT!! ā¤ļø
alex and team what time because am in uk i keep missing it
Google is free :)
Hi Lea! This was an amazing post. I love the little details, like broken shards of glass - I think these small details really matter and give charm to the game! More of that please :) I also love the design of the ancient ruins, yall did a great job, it really does resemble a lot of the irl greek and roman ruins I saw! Thank you for all the years of really cool patreon posts and I wish you guys a great launch. Keep being as meticulous and detail oriented as you are! ā¤ļø
So, when you are sick, can you take the day off from work (and maybe go to the hospital to seek care)? At the same time, can you choose to go to work nevertheless (you don't lose the money but there's a slight chance your performance will be a little worse since you're not feeling 100%)? This could add a little gameplay and some choices for the player.
Unrelated to this week's post, but related to jobs: I know your work schedule has free days, but can you also take vacations? You have X days available, you make a request and don't go to work without any negative consequence.
I don't understand, why do I have to pay to repair the vending machine? Wasn't something that skilled Paras could do by themselves? I would rather add a third option, "report broken vending machine to town council" (if my Para doesn't have the skill necessary for the repair (yet), or if I don't feel like doing the job myself). Maybe if you come back in a few days you would find the vending machine fixed/replaced (while if you fix it yourself you would have it immediately ready) (but the fixing could be instantaneous even with the phone call to the council option, less realistic maybe, but I wouldn't mind it that much).
Maybe you could have a tax bill a little higher if the town fixes the broken vending machine? So the player faces another choice: do I want the town prettier (but my contribution needs to be a bit higher) or I'm fine with a broken vending machine here and there? (Or do I fix it myself, third option). It would be a tiny raise in taxes, nothing dramatic or too evident.
I wasn't expecting the community center to be in a historical site in ruins. Anyway my idea would be to put a stage and some chairs for the audience and make it a space for concerts/auditorium (there is actually a similar venue with this purpose in my town in a semi-destroyed/abandoned church). Maybe in the future we will have more musical instruments, esp. for classical music (like strings, woodwinds, brass), to have a nice orchestra playing there. Maybe the activities in the community center could be rotational, meaning that if you go there one day you could listen to a concert (or even perform?), another day you would find a conference happening (gaining Knowledge points?), or an art exhibition (+ Art points?)
I would love to know if you plan to add the wonderful job of nanny or caregiver for the elderly. I really miss the nanny profession in The Sims 3.
With all jobs being rabbit holes, it should be easy for a modder to make additions. Although I think all jobs are also tied to an existing building so maybe not that easy.
The in-game community feels so alive, vibrant, and interactive. Much more than the Sims ever will. I love Sims 3 because it was the first life simulation game I ever played but because of the recent decision EA is making, itās kinda making me wanna quit The Sims entirely. Plus it's clear from the get-go that this team listens and wants to make an awesome game. The first Sims game was funded by EA because sales weren't coming in for crying out loud!
Actually laughed out loud when I read āabout to be treated for Mushroom Poisoningā. Love you guys, thank you for this game! Very excited š„°
The first thing I thought of when seeing the Community Center and its bundles is Stardew Valley. It has the same idea so I appreciate you guys taking inspiration from that game. This seems like it could be a good addition and it can potentially lead to some more stuff you can do with it. Looking forward to it!
The EA release is getting closer and closer !!! It's unbelievable :) The ruin looks good wouldn't had the idea to make it a community centre but that idea definitely is something. Who knows what exactly your plans will be after releasing the game but some kinda lore about the building would be nice. Also very ambitious that you are adding (for now simplified) systems for adoption and health. I really appreciate it since it adds some consequences and realism.
I have enjoyed reading your posts and seeing your creative talents brought to Paralives in game content and designs. I can't wait to experience it in real time, so soon now! Eureka and fare thee well Lea, for now. āØļø
Wait, Iām not sure if Iām just slow or something but how do you access the Patreon-only streams in the Discord?? Iāve always missed them because Iām never free, but this time, Iāll be free and Iām not even sure how to access them honestly š
hi!! check out this article on how to link your Patreon account to Discord :) https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/212052266-Getting-Discord-access once you're in, you'll get access to the Patreon-only part of our server where the stream will be!!
My first thought is that if you add the weather, the books will get wet š Iām delighted that the game will be available so close to my birthday. Itās a wonderful feeling to have āaccompaniedā you all these years. And Iām absolutely thrilled.
That was the first thing I thought haha
Did I miss the reveal or did you just name drop the name of the town?!?!! šš¤
Iām wondering too! šš
Not quite what I pictured with the books out in the rain, but the ruins themselves look great! š
Gorgeous art! Do you also give birth in the hospital?
I am planning a family in paralives
It's interesting to me that a crumbling ruined building is a community center. Seems dangerous haha I enjoy the buiding but its not exactly what comes to mind when I think of a community cented.
If this doesn't already exist, I would like to see in the future that I can tell from a distance that a para is sick or not feeling well, instead of having to click on the para to see that she is sick based on the moodlets. Otherwise, I'm super happy about the new features. I'm so excited that a para can get sick and go to the hospital for treatment. šš By the way: The Community Center is so beautiful! š¤©
Take the damn snack ! You are a virtual being ! You can do what you want and wear what you want ! Nobody of us has that ! Go for it !
love these feature but books as donation interactable object in unroofed area don't sound very reliable xD unless these books are made not from paper xD
The last picture has says Health centre but its referred to as Hospital. Will there be a change to the naming and is it an interactable lot or a rabbit hole?
Aw man I literally cannot wait! It all looks so beautiful and I love love LOVE the fact that there are bundles for the collectables, it's something that fits so well into a life sim I am happy to see it. I am sad to see the time for the patreon ending tho :( Do y'all plan on still posting here sometimes in the future for some behind the scenes looks into development during early access or is it just gonna left here for people to look at? Anyhow I can't wait! Looks so good, especially with a little more to do in the world
I really love those simple things like food poisoning mechanics. Adds realism
I won't be on discord... because I don't have an account there, will this stream be available on patreon?
Yes, on the friday.
Im curious if when one parafolk in a household donates to either museum or community center will another parafolk see that progress or do they have to contribute all over again....how does the progress work for collectibles and donations for other households, and the like?
I love the illness icon! Fits perfectly. On that, itās awesome to have consequences to actions - positive and negative. As others mentioned, some kind of reputation system would help diversify the paras regardless of their personalities with potential markers of their own (ātown legendā vs āblack sheepā). Are the bundles currently pre-decided based on themes or are bundles randomized each save (or can they be)?
Canāt wait!! š¤©šš»
I love the community centre building. It's definitely the sort of place I would build. I am so going to miss everyone's posts in the future. They're the highlight of my Friday. Thanks to all the team and can't wait till EA.
Everything you've done so far, starting with so little, is truly amazing! I haven't been following you much longer; I was just curious years ago, and I have to say I'm truly impressed! The interactions are so beautiful! I can't wait to play and create with Paralives!
The ruins look like a nice place to visit
this is a super cool build! I like the idea others have suggested where maybe you can rebuild/restore the center over the course of the save ā maybe itās dilapidated and your job is to fix it up, make it more of a community hub, etc. Also ā did I miss the announcement that the town is called Melino???? Love the name! Will the live stream on discord will be recorded and posted for those who canāt make it?
Hello! We have big plans for the community center in the future. For launch, it will focus only on the bundles, but it will evolve later! It was revealed in the post about the Museum I think, but we just dropped the info without making a big thing of it I think. Yes like all live stream, it will be recorded and posted on Friday!
I love the community lot so much! A couple of things: 1. This is unrelated but after the paramaker stream I saw some complaints that there wasnāt one for male paras, and it led people to assume that there wasnāt much content in that arena. I might suggest for the next paramaker sneak peek you show male paras as Iāve seen it as a common complaint about other life sims. 2. Is there going to be a karma system in the game (sorry if this was already asked). Like, taking the snack from the broken vending machine is negative karma and might lead to a random consequence, and fixing it is positive karma?
1. Yes, you're right, it would be interesting to show them for sure! The paramaker content si not locked by gender, all the content is available for every Paras and kids too. 2. It's not currently in the game, but it's an idea that we really like. If it's not karma, maybe a reputation system? It's too early to confirmed it but we are definitely thinking about adding some consequences
I can't believe you're going to make me choose between the cozy bookstore and the gothic ruin of a castle š Ahhhh! I love them both
I love the design, my only problem is that it feels slightly out of place. Like why would the community centre be an abandoned building? If one thinks about it, it isn't a very diegetic. If this is a situation where you can over the course of a save maybe build up or rebuild the building. Then the use of the building would make more sense, otherwise maybe reuse it as something else, like a monument that can have the start of a secret quest? I know that this is a game and every donation book in one place is nice and convenient, though it breaks game immersion when you add such a convenient option.
We have plans for the Community Center; it will evolve in the future, but we needed the mechanics to be there at launch!
This looks so cool!! I canāt wait to see how the community center evolves over the paras life! Just some ideas off the top of my head - it would be cool if the para needs higher handiness skill to be able to repair the vending machine. Also, what if there was a very slight 1% chance that your para could die from eating the mushroom or from untreated virus poisoningš ā ļø I feel like that would help up the stakes even more!! Thank you guys for your hard work ~
I love seeing ruins in towns, really adds character! Iām hoping in the future there could be a way to give a proper āruinedā look to something such as crumbled walls or partial walls
Hooray! Thank you LƩa for a last great post. I love the community center build, and as an amateur mycologist, that Paras can now eat the mushrooms they find! Will it be possible to cook with them as well, now or in future updates? Just add some butter and leeks...yum. The 'seek care' at the hospital is also a great addition. Are you considering cut scenes for rabbit hole interactions at all down the line?
I feel like cut scenes would add a lot to rabbit holes.
I'm so excited! I love the functional nod to the original design and I'm already filled with ideas on how this space can be used for para parties and other community events. Imsoexcitedicantbelievewere24daysaway. Much love to y'all Devs please keep hydrated, rested, and give yourselves grace š«¶š¼
Hi LĆ©a, thanks for this post ! Another "this is my last post" that gives me all the feels, but still. Thank you for these years of updates, especially since aside Alex you've been on the team the longest. We owe you a lot <3 Seeing the Community Center up close is great, it's as gorgeous as it seemed to be from the previews. And concept art is always delighftul, I'd love an entire post on concept art someday ! "We want to add more content to the Community Center, better bonuses, and reasons to donate to the bundles through the gameās updates. Thereās a lot we can do with it later on!" Not gonna lie, going by The New Paper headline we saw in the Town Events video, I thought the donations would slowly rebuild the Community Center. But now, seeing how cool it looks, I'm almost glad that it isn't the case. In any case, I find really cool that the various bundles are about different small things in the game, like bringing your midnight spaghetti to the CCenter, and not just a repeat of bringing mushrooms you're already donating to the Museum. Will mod devs be able to add their modded assets to this system ? If someone creates new dishes, can they bundle them so that my Paras can donate them ? (actually I have the same question about items for the Museum for example) Also it's really a cool irony that it costs more to repair the vending machine, than to steal food from it. A nice moral dilemma. Loving the hospital gameplay, too. I do hope that someday we'll get to see the inside of it for roleplay (like just the waiting room would be nice), but having more things to do there is really something I like in any case. Anything similar planned for the fire station ?
Thank you so much, that's really nice! To be fair, this game and community changed my life, so I feel like I owe you waaaaay more! Yes you will be able to mod the bundles and add whatever you want to them! I think there are a lot of possibilities for the rabbit holes. I would love to add more to them, definitely! Here in MontrƩal, we usually see firefighters doing BBQ and chilling in front of the station during summer days; it would be a nice touch to add!
Being sick is very exciting! (š ) there's alot you can do with that system in the future and i love the icon for it ā” Question: do the bundles not say what you'll be unlocking? or is it "complete blank to unlock blank"?
Wait.. NVM im an idiot lol
Gothic church ruins next to a museum? Well, that's just the Museum Gardens in York
So š
Oooh, are the ghotic ruins going to be available as an element to build with in build mode? Or maybe there could be some renovation options for run down buildings in the future? :o
you will be able to use the windows and arches on your build but the ruins are not available since its a huge item that is made to fit exactly the building!
