Bonus video! James Dean's Flirty Screen Tests, Sal's Nudez, and Piiiiiiies
Hello there!
In this week's bonus video, we're taking a look at the saucy screen tests that James Dean enjoyed with Paul Newman and Richard Davalos, which seem to reveal what we all suspected: Nobody could stand next to Dean without wanting to pounce on him. Also, we're checking out Sal Mineo's artistic nude, which at one point was advertised as "the biggest nude in the world." Plus I've got some bonkers old 1950s "educational" films about teenagers, featuring the strangest delivery of the word "pies" I've ever heard.
And! I've got a sneak peek for you at my next video, which dives into the amazing history of the film Victim -- possibly the first time the word "homosexual" was said out loud on an American movie screen, and that doesn't even begin to describe what made it unusual. I'll have lots more about Victim in the coming weeks, but for now I've got a story about a weird uncle that'll absolutely knock your socks off.

Omg yes please a video on Sal Mineo!
RE: "Pueyss" it like he was suddenly channeling Crystal LaBeija from "The Queen"
Looking forward to seeing your video on Dirk Bogarde in Victim. For me he is immortalized as dr. Aschenbach in Death in Venice (one of my all time favorite movies), who becomes obsessed by a boy named Tadzio. The actor who played this boy, Björn Andresen became in instant object of desire, which followed him his whole life. And he wasn't very happy about it. A documentary was made a few years ago about him: "The Most Beautiful Boy in the World" Here is a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU2tONCgcgs
Three films to recommend: Beautiful Thing, The Wedding Banquet, Making Love. I'd love to hear your take on them.
My favorite TV pairing is in the Western series Laramie which ran from 1959-1963. It’s about two hot men in tight clothes who meet and work on a ranch and grow to love each other and become family. In the third season, they want to adopt a boy, but the judge won’t let them because there’s no female influence in the home. So, they hire a housekeeper, Spring Byington, who was rumored to be the partner of Marjorie Main. The series stars John Smith, who was in the Henry Wilson stable of hunks, and Robert Fuller. In one episode, Slim, the John Smith character, dresses and does the hair of his supposed female interest. There are many guest stars along the way like Gena Rowlands, Julie London, and Hoagy Carmichael. John Smith was only married once for the period that the show was on the air. I don’t know if he was gay, but maybe? Here’s a video full of cute clips of them together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AWiB8K93l8
Btw, George Nader guested in one episode as a cowardly sheriff. And, there are numerous YouTube video compilations of Jess and Slim Laramie clips done to bromance songs.
My recommendation: Altered Innocence/Anus Film's collection of gay documentaries from the 1970s -- Gay USA (https://www.alteredinnocence.net/gayusa)
