Bonus! Casting All in the Family with a Hitchhiker, a Cheap Fired Dancer, and Batman's Delivery Boy
Hello there! In this week's bonus video, I've got some intriguing stories about the casting of All in the Family -- and some very unlikely lucky-breaks that completely changed the lives of some of the younger actors, from Rob Reiner to Sally Struthers to Mike Evans (that's Lionel Jefferson, who was with the show from the very first episode). Also, I stumbled across some unexpected parallels between Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and the Muppets ... and also with the musical 1776.

Yay for the Matt Colville shoutout (whose gaming content is just great analysis of tabletop RPGs).
As a kid I was taken to the Broadway musical '1776' in a theatre-in-the-round near Independence Hall in Philly in 1976. Long and talky, but lively and memorable. Also, Ken Howard as Thomas Jefferson! Chef kiss!
Is there a glitch in the ending sequence where the audio overlaps and then the sequence restarts?
My goodness yes! I don't know how that happened!
Of course Gonzo is a Tory. Also Rob Reiner was great as a hippy on an episode of Gomer Pyle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFusTuWObLA
I saw "1776" in 1976 along with all the other 8th graders in Des Moines at the big and fancy River Hills cinema. It was quite an event during that Bicentennial year. Unfortunately, the cinema was so crowded that I ended up in the very front row, hard to the right. The giant screen was curved and, as you know, many scenes from the movie took place in Independence Hall. Actors were running around the hall, back and forth, singing and arguing, so much that I got completely nauseated. Still can't watch it without queasy memories. Cool video that you presented us today, nevertheless!
Haha that's how I saw the first Fellowship of the Ring movie! A very different experience when it's seen alllllll the way from the furthest corner.
1776 is one of my favorite movies EVER! William Daniels (John Adams) voice makes me go all squishy kneed. 😆
Honestly yes he's quite a hunk, a real Founding Daddy
