Malevolent Planet 2D - The Accounting Saga Continues

Hello! It's time to relay you my plans for this week, some of them already mentioned in last Friday's post.

First of all, before I get into it, I'd like to thank everyone who decided to check my page following the latest public release. It's very motivating to see it, that your work brings some attention.

For this week, for the most part, I'll be focused on achieving a stable release through the implementation of the new content & fixing of bugs that were reported & working on whatever needs to be done art-wise for the game. More details below.

We're going to start with, Bugs 🐛 (many of them credits to MFW Safety always off):

  • Emma's face texture looks compressed when compared to sharp suit texture. This is caused by my enabling crunch compression on the body texture and/or combination of default graphics settings most likely, for some reason for Third Crisis it doesn't make the "texture" of the skin appear compressed/grainy. It helps save up on space, so I need to figure out how exactly this happens and maybe make sure that even on the medium quality setting, the texture doesn't look uncompressed.

  • Misaligned chibi sprites when clothes are first worn (gets fixed when you start walking). I know that when the chibi walks, the animator on the clothes is supposedly perfectly synced up with the values of the player character's animation float values. I think that when a clothing is first worn, I can set the movement direction float values (they're called moveX and moveY, move horizontally and move vertically) to the animator of the clothing. Will test this fix soon.

  • During scenes the textures can also appear compressed. There's supposed to be lossless compression applied to the scenes if their resolution is a multiple of 4, so it most likely has to do with graphics settings. I'll have to see if I should change the default graphics settings to highest and let players pick a lower setting.

  • Black Screen after a scene in the lake during the samples gathering. This should be an easy fix and it most likely went unnoticed because I didn't pick the option that triggers it during testing.

  • The towel clothing sometimes appears to still be worn when day3 starts. This never happened to me, but it might be a race condition caused by slower devices or platform-specific.

Content:

  • I want to draw the remaining scene where you cure your crewmates.

  • I want to finish implementing the above scene and the one finished last week into the game and write dialogues for it.

  • I want to finish up the UI for using the ship's elevator as a teleportation device between the ship's floors.

  • I want to fix any obvious collider issues that trigger when navigating around the ship.

  • I want to update the crew chibi sprites with the four-directional ones.

Releases:

  • I want to release the content finished by the end of the week (including ship freeroaming and curing crewmates) on the 23rd or 24th of November (Thursday or Friday)

  • I want to release the latest public build on websites like newgrounds, etc.

Marketing/Social Media Engagement:

  • Check the forums and try to record any bug reports people have made.

  • Post any art WiP this week.

Thanks for taking your time to read this! There might be some points I forgot to mention, but overall the above are amongst the most important points to mention.
