Malevolent Planet 2D - Art Week

Hey! There's not much going nowadays, the first new demo presentation is out since Friday and due to that idea it'll also be possible to develop the skip functionality this month as well, with the core idea being that you'll be able to pick the same choices you would during normal gameplay with the possibility of starting the game at the beginnings of different chapters.

But I'll focus for now on art scenes and if there's additional time from drawing what I'd like to draw for this week I'll also write some dialogues.

Bugs:

  • TBD. Currently there aren't any critical bugs I'm aware of and I'm still waiting for the elaboration of a gallery-related bug that was reported to me, after I receive more details I'll most likely be able to fix that one easily.

Content:

  • Work on possible waterfall scenes, followed maybe by the shower scene in the ship.

  • If there's time, write dialogues / the flow that advances content from arrival back to the waterfall to being back on the ship.

Community Feedback:

  • I might make a poll this week for patrons asking whether we should actually have some alien village content as well, together with an explorable map for the village. I've received some feedback that some people might like some village content similar to the text game, but I had a difficult time dealing with the village content in the text game due to time constraints.

The time constraints being, there were too many times of the day when you could go to a location and you'd see different content based on the time. That was pretty horrible, I had to start writing guides on how to see content that would advance some missions by going to location X at time Y.

The Mass Effect explorable areas like the Citadel, Noveria, they were relatively small (at least Noveria) maps that had no conditions for accessing content beyond maybe finishing some previous content beforehand, so nothing related to time.

Therefore, if there's actually demand for this, I can make the village an explorable map like the ship but content available at different locations in the village wouldn't be subjected to time, instead, maybe to quests you had finished or quests you still have active.

I guess one benefit of adding the village as an explorable map (before the city) is that it would make the world feel a bit more alive and that you can just wander around freely, similar to Carceburg in Third Crisis.

We'll see, I might sketch what an explorable village would look like and we'll decide together if it's worth pursuing right now.

One disadvantage I can see with unlocking ship space travel too soon is that the experience outside the ship may be too linear for players, which is what I had actually wanted, but now I realize that Mass Effect let you, to some degree, explore different areas at will.

Thanks for reading this and I hope to hear from your opinions soon!
