Malevolent Planet 2D - Wrapping March Up

Hey! The end of March is upon us, so I have to finish up on my tasks and prepare the build. Additionally I'm thinking about building a video format for the weekly dev updates where you can see a "before" and "after" on things I'm working on in the game. Not sure when I'll get the time to start this format, but I think it would be a good idea.

Here's what we have to do this week:

Bugs:

  • Skipping dialogues can still behave strangely sometimes. It seems that during specific/random circumstances if you skip the dialogue, once you stop skipping it you're somehow not able to manually advance dialogue lines anymore unless you click randomly on the skip/auto button.

UI:

  • Reposition elements in the game's UI and resize dialogue elements as well to make the game feel more homely during dialogues, like a visual novel.

  • Animate the new expressions in for as many characters as possible, starting with the main character and also use these new expressions during dialogues.

Sounds:

  • Find someone to work with to develop sounds for the game, sounds we can play during animations, scenes, and general dialogue lines (like a very surprised sound when the dialogue line shows surprise).

  • Replace placeholder sounds in some dialogues.

Content:

  • Write the dialogues that involve the new animation scenes, together with the flow that moves the player character and Melissa all the way back to the waterfall. This will be tough and most likely the most important task.

Release(s):

  • Make a Patron Release on 28th-29th of March (Thurs-Fri).

For the public build, next week I will rework the public build to act as a presentation for the actual game, because I think timed releases in the current model aren't very effective at showing the missing content.

Let's hope I finish all of the above in a timely manner, release weeks are pretty stressful but I believe they're worth it because monthly patron builds are in my mind the most fair approach to releasing content, even though it's a bit difficult on the creator(s).
