Dev Video: Particles and Sounds (N&T + Footsteps)

We've been working on polishing the Needle 'n Thread feature by adding a few new sound effects during certain actions. These sounds aren't final, but this is a look at some of our progress!

Additionally, we've updated and further fixed the Needle indicators that pop up on screen. They smoothly move between targets, point more accurately, and have nearly finalized designs.

Another thing you'll notice is the addition of particle effects when threading into different types of surfaces. Wood will spawn wood chips, Stone will spawn rock debris, Metal will give off sparks, and so forth... We're still refining this, too!

Last but not least, you can check out our footstep particles in action. This is a feature that's been on our to-do list for many years, and now it's in-game! We still have to set up different particles depending on the surface type, but this is the default style when running around.

At the end of the video, you'll see a bit of swinging around! This is an area we're working on too, with a recent goal to prototype rope-like physics along the thread and also improve gameplay feel. We'll share more on that if/when it happens...

We hope you're enjoying these Dev Video posts! We think it's a fun way to share small snippets of progress. :)

I like what Im seeing. however can you turn this feature off on an object? Is every grababble object long threadable?

By default, no object can use the needle ‘n thread. You can enable it in an object’s settings menu. Once enabled, you can decide if it’ll use a grapple or hookshot behavior. 😄

Very nice, though the needle feels like it still needs a hit sound when it connects to the material. Both the grappling hook mode and rope swinging mode look fun!

It’s there, but we’re still working out the volume levels and sound choices! 🙌
