Help me name Miranda

When I wrote the original four Elsaverse games most of the characters only had first names. It wasn't until Darkness Falls that I started needing last names for some of them. But, while Miranda has a cameo in Darkness Falls, her last name isn't given.

For ... reasons ... the time has come to give her a last name. For a little while, I thought I had named her "Miranda Lawson," but, no, that's Mass Effect. I could come up with something, but this seems like a nice opportunity to get you folks involved.

Want to play a part in defining the Elsaverse? Send me your suggestions for Miranda's last name. If anyone suggests something I like, I may use it as her official last name. If I don't like any of them, I'll go back to Plan A and make something up.

Send me your suggestions on Patreon or Discord, either publicly or privately. Whatever works for you.

Oh, and with all due respect to the ongoing work with Toro7, I'm stoked at the implied prospect of going back to Sangrive.

I was thinking about Carpenter just because I love Molly from the Harry Dresden books. :)

I racked my brain for the perfect name and decided to keep it simple:

I don't think Miranda is such a noble girl, so I think her last name should be Ramos, this last name goes so well with her name

I am French so... Miranda Sinclair ? Roitelet ? (a little bird also mean little king in french). Miranda Corbeau ? (too obvious, it's french for crow), maybe Corbier ? (Less obvious, it means a place where we can find crow).

Gotta be honest, I like the sound of "Miranda Sinclair".

Miranda's a chameleon. She needs a good generic last name, one that could come from anywhere and doesn't tie her down to any one particular lineage. Lawson is indeed a good candidate. "Miranda Taylor" has a nice ring to it.

In the spirit of Clone High, how about Darc?

I propose Sanva or Sanvas. When I was a child I was offered a book about a young woman who was a show in a circus because of her intense obesity. She was 21 and her name was Miranda, and the book's title was "Miranda s'en va" (Miranda's going). In the book, she manages to escape with a group of youngster and falls in love with one of them, and she dies in the end after they were pursued by the police and the people who used her.

Many possibilities... perhaps Bohdi -- Sanskrit name meaning 'enlightenment' or 'awakening'

My first thought was Miranda Michaels, as I like alliteration, but then I thought Miranda Archer sounded better. Depending on your 'reasons', Miranda Hope might also work.

I got it: Miranda Monroe.

I have always found Miranda to have a charm... Mediterranean, let's say Latino for the Anglo-Saxons. I can imagine her having a father of Hispanic origin, el Senior Nunes Da Silva. Miranda Nunes Da Silva, whom her parents called "la Nine" when she was a kid.

If you have in mind a Hispanic surname, Bellavista ("beautiful sight") or Buenavista ("good sight") would be a great fit for Miranda ("she who is to be looked at").

She looks like a Miranda Florez. Florez being spanish-gothic, derived from given name Froila, stemming from germanic "frau" or old english "frea" (lord/master)

As a Spaniard myself I found it hard to believe that it didn't come from the word "flor" (meanind "flower", so I looked it up in a page about Spanish surnames. It is a patronimic from the given name "Floro" (which is a man named "flower") so I'm really curious about where did you get that convoluted origin for the word.

Miranda Chao. It's a meaningful chinese name, I feel the chinese are somewhat underrepresented in gaming. But I have to admit that my first idea was Lawson as well. ME really messed with our heads.

As an Asian myself (altho, Japanese), I'm going to agree with u, there. I would love to see more Asians in western eroge games.

Miranda Wright It's a play on words for Miranda rights, and the initials make a good graphic monogram design, too. /\/\\/\/ Another suggestion would be Miranda Mulier Miranda: meaning, "Wonderous" or "miraculous" and Mulier: meaning "Woman", in Latin. (Wonder Woman. 😉 )

Lazy Turtle · November 13, 2022

I'm going to support Wright as it is name I've given Miranda years ago when I created her and other girls as XCOM soldiers. We kicked many alien butts

If you want a pop cultural reference, when I think "Miranda" I think the movie Serenity. "Seren" has a nice ring to it. Or you could go the mythology route, How about Miranda Mara. In German folklore "Mara" is an evil spirit that sits on your chest while you sleep, constricting your air supply and turning your dreams into nightmares (the English word nightmare comes from mara) Considering her inability to get a good night sleep...
