Dreaming with Elsa now in Renpy
I've started the task of porting all of the Elsaverse to Renpy, and here's the first release.
I probably don't need to tell any of you this, but Dreaming with Elsa was the first game Mortze and I did together. When he approached me and offered to be my new artist, I asked him to send me an image of a clothed woman he felt was pretty. I expected a stock V4 with beachball sized breasts. What I got was Elsa. And the rest is history.
I tested this pretty heavily. I'm pretty sure everything is okay, but if you find any problems, don't hesitate to report them.
With Renpy you get infinite saves, rollback, and skip forward, but you lose some things too. As far as I can tell, there's no way to do mouse animations like we had in Javascript. And, Renpy players don't expect to have hidden spots to click on the picture, so I replaced those with menu selections.
And I couldn't bring myself to ask our localizers to translate all of the Elsaverse again, so this version is English only. But, if you want the original unchanged HTML version with all of those things still there, it's included in this distribution. (Well, mostly unchanged. I reworked the code a bit since the images are in a different directory now.)
It was fun going through DwE again. It's been a long time.
I haven't decided whether to tackle the DwE short stories next, or plow on to Redemption for Jessika and come back to the shorts later. If you have opinions on that, please share them.

I have started playing this version of the game, and I have a slight criticism. There are times when it is a bit unclear who is speaking. It usually isn't a problem when one of the on screen characters is speaking, but it can be a little bit more difficult when the person speaking is the main character. I've been following along because I played the original, but I occasionally get a bit tripped up. I also realized what the difference was. In the html version, everything the MC says is in a box you had to click on to proceed, while in the Renpy version we only click a box when there is a decision to make. It might be worth trying something out during one of the next games, like maybe different color text or something else, and see if that helps.
Thanks, bishop. Yeah, I noticed that too while testing it. In the places where it was most confusing, I put a little more text in it to clarify. I think I did even more of that in RfJ. Renpy is somewhat of a lossy conversion. We lost the mouse animations and the clicking on the image, but also gained infinite saves, rollback, and text skipping. I think it balances out in the end. --Tlaero
The game that begat Tora Productions and gave me my first "holy fuck..." reaction to not just one or two renders, but the entire game.
Hi Tlaero, I found a bug in the Mac version. If I click on 'achievements' in the main menu, I get an "exception has occured" error. Not sure if this is because I haven't actually gotten any achievements yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Darn it! That was literally the last thing I changed. And I had the achievements at that point, so missed it. )-: I just uploaded a fixed version in the same location. This will affect everyone, not just Mac, so if you downloaded this last night, please re-download it. Thanks Maximus! And sorry for the mess. --Tlaero
