Progress 10 Nov 2024
This week, Mortze did animations for the two sex scenes he's currently writing. He did that instead of writing the corresponding words, so there's nothing for me to do yet. That's okay, I wasn't in a particularly good mental place this week.
One positive for the week was the extensive discussion that my "should games let you fail?" question sparked on Discord and here. I really enjoyed reading all of your varied opinions on the subject. I'm still thinking through how I want that to work out.
Writing is such a drawn-out process for me. The good news is that I eventually settle on something I like. The bad news is that sometimes it feels like I have to try everything else before I find the thing I like, though.
Do any of you have similar jobs or hobbies where the finished product is built on the bones of countless failed attempts?

Do not chase the creativity cat, you must wait and let it come to you. Take your time so you do not burn out.
I write computer software for a living, and yes, success is always the result of many, many errors along the way. I've learned, sometimes the hard way, the benefits of writing extensive test suites to try to catch as many bugs and failure modes as possible. Probably nothing like that is possible in creative writing though...
I hope it gets better for you (mentally). As for hobbies or jobs, no. I can't think of any...
I'm a computer geek, by trade. and boy have I made mistakes and therefore learned not to try that particular thing again, plus how to look for gotcha's in someone else's requests/code! and I don't think I've ever written a 'ran it correctly the first time' script on a computer! 🤪😁 so you're awesome! keep writing! please!
I still build legos and create my own builds when this happens enviably I need to tear things down to add or make something structurally sound.
3D printing is a lot of failure that leads to success. ;)
