I just got my youtube stats and i am in the TOP 0.2% of Aging Wheels viewers… My time is definitely well spent
Ahem ... I spy with my little eyes ... a Rogue Robert er ... Aging Wheels ... on an EV1 video by Electrek Garage.
I dont need an almost 60 year old electric mower.. I dont need an almost 60 year old electric mower.. I dont need an almost 60 year old electric mower.. I dont need an almost 60 year old electric mower.. I dont need an almost 60 year old electric mower..
The closest thing that I've ever randomly stumbled across is Greenworks. With a single 80v battery (they have other sizes), you can pretty much power your entire range of lawn tools, summer and winter. Plus things like pressure washers, inverters, lights, small e-bikes, larger e-bikes and a 4 wheeler. Apparently Makita has a wide variety too, but neither has a welder.
I’m not terribly surprised that the electronics are nonexistent. Just being electric is pretty huge for the time. I was born in 1971, so I have no memory of these at all, but my dad was a high tech guy. I’m not at all surprised at the lack of electronics on these mowers.
I was super interested in what vintage motor control technology they were using, and the answer was ALL OF THEM. Gearboxes, field weakening, series resistors, and even some funky RC timers and SCRs. (SCRs were the Gallium Nitride MOSFETs of 1975). Very fun.
Loving the General Electric music, you should definitely find a use for it in videos as long as it doesn't get a copyright strike. "And now for a word from our sponsor"
First Alec and the Radiant Control toaster (it's "automatic beyond belief!") and now these amazing things. Now I want one. 🤣
this is one of the Best Videos you have put out lately. These things are so versitile, they can do almost anything..... I was born in 74, and Ive never even heard of these awesome mowers... Cant Wait to see what you do with them, like making them lithium!!!!!!
Time to find the snowblower attachments for winter?
Love the video, and being of the age, I was 14 in 1971, and mowing grass at the Rhein Main AB making .90 cents an hour. I can really appreciate the ease-of-use electric mowers have. even if it was only 1 lawn a day...
The speed control on the EM8 reminds me of our old cub cadet (similar vintage). I think things were just that jank in the 70s for the obtainable models.
