Street Fighter Alpha 2

There are several game series on CPS2, and we continue this week with the Alpha one: Street Fighter Alpha 2 (including Zero 2 Alpha) is visiting us today. We finally have all the characters that appeared in Super Puzzle Fighter 2 in their original games available. CPS2 is full of cameos and references between the games, so keep an eye open when you play.
We have a mix of quiz and dating simulation with Quiz Nanairo Dream, but only for those with some Japanese skills. Isn't anyone going to hack these ROMs to translate it?
Finally, a lesser-known brawler: Battle Circuit is available too. This game seems to follow the path of Captain Commando on CPS2 technology.
SFA2 requires a 64MB+ SDRAM to work correctly. Nanairo and Battle Circuit operate on 32MB systems. Note that the MiST/SiDi versions are compiled with 64MB support, so users of a modded system can play SFA2 fully.
The JT Alpha team has spent some time making good readme/faq files to ease the file deployment. Please check them if you run into trouble.

Admittedly, I may have done this wrong somehow, but in the alt folder under CPS2, there are two copies of Street Fighter Alpha, and Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha. Interestingly, it looks like all 3 contain Street Fighter Alpha.

Hi Daniel, if you use update_all, it will normally grab the MAME zip files for you. If you refer to the regular MiSTer updater, you need to have the latest firmware for the games to load correctly. So, yes.
The alternatives folders of Alpha and Alpha 2 have the exact same content (both include only the Alpha alternatives). Did something go wrong or is it just me?
Please download the files from Patreon directly. I made a mistake in the files that went through e-mail. Sorry about that.

Battle Circuit was fun. It took a lot of coins to complete the game, but it's a fun beat-em-up. The QSound in this game was very good. Excellent work Jotego :-)

Only the game settings for now. Hi-score saving will be possible but it is implemented yet.

I normally enable HQ2X but with the CPS cores, it tends to break the FPGA timing so I just disable it.

SFA2 sounds strange, like if it lacks bass
I’ve noticed this too. I haven’t tried many of the other games but it seemed like Puzzle Fighter had similar behaviour on sound effects and voice clips. In Alpha 2 it is most noticeable on things like the ‘Round 1 Fight’ voice clip, in Puzzle Fighter it happens with a lot of the voice clips and gem sound effects. Background music seems to be unaffected but can’t be certain. There’s a small amount of direct capture or CPS2HDMI footage for these games where this doesn’t happen. I had thought this might have been a thing that either emulators handled differently from the original hardware or similar but it seems like this a real thing. Would be interested to know if other people have noticed it.

Do you have a Super Turbo board to work on? if not, I believe I have one that can be used for donation. This is probably the most desired CPS2 game out there among long time SF players.

The japanese file appears to be Ver 2 or sfa2 gold vs Ver 1. Really cool to have sfa2 in some form though, thank you! I'll be very excited when we can play the original version in all it's og glory :)
Please download the zip again directly from Patreon. It looks like no matter how much we try, we always get a file misplaced in the first zip file!
