Gnoll Rot-Walker - WIP - "Ouch!"
Hey folks!
Here's my progress on the Rot-Walker :)
Hopefully the first three Gnolls should be done and ready for presupports early next week, and I'll be able to get started on the Slaver ^^

That arrow really adds to the unstoppable feel as it was so deep and definitely a critical. Suggestion though, you might want to make the arrow have a notch so it looks like it could be fired. Not sure will it come up being such a small detail :)
Thanks ^^ Given the final prints sizes for those creatures, I think it would show ;)
Also, I just noticed that he has quite a long, flowing tail. Most hyenas actually have pretty short tails. Just a thought!
You're right about hyenas' tails. When it comes to Gnolls, though, not everybody seems to agree on whether they even have tails at all, let alone their lenght ^^ In fact, most Gnolls designs I came across when doing my research had no tails, but when they did, they were pretty long and fluffy. I figured it'd be a good idea to have those to balance out compositions and have a nice detail showing up from behind their legs ^^
So... What's a rot walker?
Some kind of Gnoll Zombie ^^ https://www.reddit.com/r/monsteraday/comments/7rb374/az_day_14_gnoll_rotwalker/ Maybe a homebrew thing, though ^^
Reall great figure and such a gestured pose, My favorite is the left hand/paw. It captures the animalistic qualities that have become anamorphic in design. The legs look well designed and proportional. Some time I would love to have a twitch/ZOOM/Discord session and watch you sculpt making cloth, your work is clean and well designed, and I would just like the chance to watch it worked out. Keep up the great work, and I hope you have an enjoyable and safe break in July. Yours, Sean
Thanks a lot Sean, I appreciate it ^^ I like the feel of that hand, too :D I think extending the top plane of the arm down the carpal bones of the wrist is what makes it look more animalistic. We have a plane for the wrist instead of a curve, and a slightly concave form for the metacarpal bones, effectively making the base knuckles more convex. Most four legged animals' paws follow that structure ^^ I'll try to record an undo history next time I sculpt interesting drapery ;)
You put such nice movement into your models! I see a lot of miniatures that might put characters into action poses, but they're hard to believe. Yours don't look merely posed, but caught in motion.
Thanks John, I appreciate it very much ^^ I think my unconventional workflow bodes well for me in that regard. Most designers make their characters standing straight, design armors pieces on top of it, etc. and pose them after the fact, which is not a good idea if you ask me. I do the very opposite of that ^^'
Maybe give him a rune engraved cricket paddle as option? Would paint him a white shirt with some red on it (Shaun from Shaun of the Dead of course :D)
Ahah :D Well, don't know what I'll make with that glorified extended cube just yet ^^
I know you just haven't started to put any detail on it yet, but I'm enjoying picturing his weapon as a cricket paddle.
Ahah XD That'd be so awesome ^^ - Take cover! He got a cricket paddle! - God help us all..
Dang, looking great! Will you be releasing a non-pre supported version as well?
Thanks man ^^ Yeah, absolutely! All my models will come with and without presupports :)
