Noodling around (this was a scheduled post).
A short(ish) extra video this time for that one person who enjoys watching my tasteless lunchtime convenience food reviews.
This time it’s a compilation featuring three different noodle pots.
'You won’t believe what’s at number three. Top chefs hate this simple meal'.
Oh and a quick addendum, it transpires that a Pro version of the Curry cup does indeed exist.
All being well I’m somewhere on the sea at the moment - all being not well, I’m somewhere under the sea at the moment.
Take care.

When I moved to Japan I stuck with the basic three (?) flavors of Nissin for ages before venturing out... I had no idea "plain" was rare! They are cheap and ubiquitous, send me an address and I will slow boat a box to you. Pay no heed to the expiration date, Japan demands that on all food products, even those that don't warrant it at all (Belgian beer, wine... cup noodles).
Do you think you’d be able to find me some Pro Curry or any really odd varieties? Given how much some places charge for postage, I’ve got to assume that it’s not cheap, however slow the option chosen. However I’d be more than happy to pay all the costs if you did find some.
I've never been one to eat any of these except the most basic Chicken Cup Noodles. But since I've been watching your videos, I now am excited to spend time in this area of the grocery store. Would it be insane if we tried sending you some that seemed unique?
Given the rest of the translated label, I expect the "pro" is short for protein.
Just looked them up on eBay… sellers floggin them for $330 AU for 12! The tech Ian effect has spread to noodle world.
Hope that you're enjoying being either on, or under the sea; however it transpires.
So there's the regular Cup Noodle, and there's the Cup Noodle Pro (aspirational version of the product line, containing More Stuff). Should you go searching eBay for a Cup Noodle SE or a Cup Noodle "A-Series"? An affordable Cup Noodle with entry-level features, which nonetheless retains enough of the signature Cup Noodle design language to effectively onboard a new customer into the brand?
Watching all these noodle videos recently made me lose my head and buy a load of my favourite, UFO, at frankly ridiculous expense. They are huge though and delicious and I’m already down to my last two. I may try the pro cup noodle next, although my digestion probably won’t thank me.
Seeing those little shrimp being rehydrated in the Pro Cup Noodles had me thinking one thing: Sea Monkeys! Oh no--Mat's destroyed and entire civilization!😃 Actually sounds delicious. Expensive, but delicious.
Mate, you'll order anything from Japan. That ending sorta reminded me of your puppet outros
"Mystery Meat"... have you been getting your noodles from Brian Butterfield?! https://youtu.be/Rj3Vt4crDR4?si=sybtfAIud1sFAGE2
Aced that ending!
Good stuff, Mat. Have you tried Miso Soup - a traditional Japanese soup which is often served with added protein items. It is based on fermented Soya beans and is totally delicious. You can get it in sachets at the supermarket. Btw, we got rid of our kettle and got a free standing water boiler/dispenser from Amazon. You can select a variety of temperatures up to 100 C and either fixed aliquots of water (100/200/300/400ml) or a start/stop supply up to the 3 litre capacity. As you only ever boil the amount you need, it's much quicker. Hope you're having a good holiday!
One of the strange things I miss about living in the UK is Pot Noodle, it’s not sold here in the US. I occasionally order some from Amazon for the nostalgia.
I usually find curry noodles here too weak or salty, so as a workaround I get the lowest salt per 100g noodles (I've high blood pressure) and add a half teaspoon of medium curry powder along with the sachet. Makes a big difference. Probably not worth risk trying with those expensive pro cup noodles.
Love this episode. Quirky and fun! More please!
I do like your glass kettle. Are you happy with it and is it reasonably quiet when boiling?
Yes it’s good - as quick and quiet as any other kettle - the only issue was that it showed up the limescale build up on the base plate - but we solved that with a little ball of steel wool (?) that they sell for this exact purpose in kitchen accessory stores - it whizzes around inside the kettle when the water boils and automatically cleans the inside.
They are around $10 a cup on Ebay... NOPE. Would love to try your 10 out of 10 noodles, but not for over a hundred bucks. Charming video though. Hope your having a great time.
Watching this video is like being transported back to the start of the "Michelin Guide" in 1900. Who would have thought our tech guru would become a global gastronome!
Is the caterpillar on the couch (1:22) one of Bees Knee's toys? 4:16, I spot paranormal activity (jk). Love any and all extra videos, and I will take all I can get. 🤍
It wasn’t his - I’m not sure why we got it - but it’s become his now as his bum tends to hang over the side of my knees whenever he sits there - so it’s used as a ‘third knee’ to make sure he doesn’t slip off. We’ve been missing him - and hope he recognises us when we return… and doesn’t hold his incarceration against us.
I liked Nissin noodles better when they used to be called Datsun noodles.
Ba dum tish!
Yup, Nissin is the king of noodles, yes there you have it...in Japan they often sell these in vending machines in Hotell lobbys, so I've eaten a few.... and they're always good. Hard to get in Europe, expensive here too but not in Japan. 10/10 no contest.
Fun video, the circus music made this. The first camera that follows you around was too much like Blair Witch Project for my liking. Perhaps you can simply sprinkle some curry powder in the Pro cup noodle and have a winner?
Here’s a hack: use broth instead of water.
Mmmmm mystery meat, I mean you don't really need to know what type of critter gave up it's life for your lunch, do you?
Never would even consider eating such food. But still enjoyed the video. Thanks Matt!
Lol funny little video.... On the second cup when the door crept open I thought we might meet Mrs Moan at that point. All the best Mat. Hope you're having a good break!
I enjoy those noodle videos; I am always getting hungry. By the way, at 4:15, the house ghost enters or leaves the kitchen.😉
Heartened to see that I am there on the fridge watching over you.
That was put there to hide a dint when the freezer’s five foot width was somehow squashed though a four for doorframe but it turned out the magnet has added a load of scratches around the dint as well. A new bigger magnet has been found on holiday - so will now be used to hide both. I anticipate in time I’ll need a six foot magnet to hide everything.
Love your noodles adventures. Have you tried Costco Chicken Ramen? It's in the freezer section, pack of 4, I think. With real pieces of chicken and veg.
Yes I just finished a pack of four before I left - they take up quite the space in the freezer though, so I tend to only buy them a couple of times a year. They are very good though.
I'm quite partial to the Samyang Hot Chicken Ramen noodles. They're stupidly hot and make my nose and eyes run! You can buy them in a pot or packet, and they're available in Asda and Morrisons. Definitely the hottest noodles I've tried.
I can only imagine, if I were crashing about at sea the last thing that I would want to consider is a variety of Japanese Cup O' Noodles... except, perhaps, the pro version. Hope you feel better.
I don't eat a lot of cup noodles, I tend to go for those brands' packet noodles for just that bit extra nood
I really enjoy these for some reason, although that face tracking was a bit like watching from the perspective of an excited cat. Reckon I'll have to try those Pro Cup Noodles too. I think climbing into a cupboard would be a good ending.
Now I want a cup noodle. ^_^ I'm watching my sodium though, since I have high blood pressure. I find they're all quite salty. Still, this was quite entertaining. And yes, that DJI Pocket camera tracking is odd. I'd been considering picking one of those up in the past, but they've gotten very pricy on Amazon. Ideally I would like something that stabilizes and I can walk about with, especially documenting a mall or something such. These days, many phones can do that, apparently. Fun video.
Hopefully you're above the sea Mat! Nissin curry is my go-to for a quick tasty snack, weird the supermarkets don't stock either or these flavours. Nissin Soba Chilli flavour is also pretty good for flavour and is stocked, at least in Sainsbury's.
Techmoodles! Needs a second channel.
The tracking on that camera is bonkers.
🤮
Of all the weird-ass things to review! Fascinating content, Just Another Excellent Video, good sir.
