10" Colour e-ink Reflection Frame
Feedback showed that very few were interested in these colour e-ink picture frames the last time I made a video about one. So I've done it again, because I make videos about things I find interesting. I don't chase views. Plus I’ve now got the sister in law’s Christmas present sorted.

I was considering having this video jump the queue and putting it out at the weekend. However that would introduce a few continuity issues. The colour cycling tape from the unreleased Tat 3 video is now part of my backdrop in this video and the JVC portable stereo from my previous video appears in some of the picture frame pictures.
So I think I’ll have to keep things in sequence and make the Tat 3 public this week which means Patreon remains up to three weeks ahead of YouTube. Having this buffer is very handy in case of unforeseen events.
Take care.

very cool, Mat! thanks for showing us!
I haven't been keeping up with videos, but watching this I really like this product. pretty amazed by the quality of the picture on it. It really does not look like e-ink. I'm very tempted for this cheaper price.
Your review is spot on. What a cracking bit of kit for the kitchen - it works particularly well as we have under unit lighting. So pleased with it am I, that I've 2 more as presents. I suppose that makes up for all the videos that saved money Mat.
I want to like this device, and at $200 it's within the price point I'd consider, but the lack of a slideshow mode makes it just a proof of concept to me. The whole point of buying a digital photo frame is so you can cycle multiple images, otherwise I'll just go print one out and buy a frame for it.
Somehow your "To Techmoan with love!" copy of the 8-Bit Guy's "Planet X3" game/soundtrack ended up on eBay from a seller in California, and it sold for $80: https://www.ebay.com/itm/197718208156
My memory on getting one of these is vague but I have a feeling he did send one and it’s still in its box in another box in my locker and if he did send it, it certainly didn’t have ‘love’ written on it.
Hi matt. I'm replying to your message here as I think my reply to your email didn't get through. Please take no action. It's a little complicated to explain. There have been problems regarding the return of the frame. Notably requesting I return it to an address in the Netherlands, no returns label or authorization provided etc. I also had to return it at my own expense (£15.95). But my bank has confirmed a full refund of the purchase price has been issued. The issue regarding the cancelled refund was nothing to do with Reflection Frame. I'm with Nationwide. When a complany issues a refund it appears as pending on my statement. That pending reference is then removed while the pending refund transitions to completed refund. I never knew this so I assumed Reflection Frame had cancelled on me. I think the problems with the return made me suspect this company was dodgy. They are not. I sent them a couple of stinky emails, which i have since apologied for. I didn't want to explain all this on your Patreon as, frankly, I was a little embarrassed. Much appreciate your follow-up on but all is well. Many thanks. Anthony.
Did you get all your costs refunded including your postage?
That new set finally looks ready for 'normal' person use. Not the metal frame, though, that's for beigemoms only. Looks like it should only hold sepia toned or greyscale images :D
I ordered a Trmnl-X. Seems to have matured to the point of usability. Maybe it will get here by Christmas
Damn, the website says it doesn't ship to my country ;(
Oh no. I guess I'm buying another e-ink frame... 😁
The new frame looks much more refined. It’s really cool. If only it were reasonably priced... say, 15 pence. #humor @irony. Jokes aside, I liked it so much that I ordered the wooden version right after watching your excellent review.
I bought one after watching this and they sent me an empty box! (Thankfully a replacement was sent out without much fuss, and it works great)
Sorry to hear that. Get right onto them and feel free to drop my name if it helps.
The red decal they put on each screen feels like a missed opportunity to just ship the screen with it loaded as the initial graphic
I the first time I saw a Kindle, the lady who bought it was trying to remove what she thought was an advertising cover sheet from the screen when it was actually what Amazon had loaded onto it before shipping.
My world is so hectic I haven't been able to watch the video. My hope is that I will this evening. Take care 🤍
Hectic is often far better than having nothing going on.
We got the bigger one based on your video. It is great! These frames are good and a nice way to display pictures. Nice to know there is a small one too now. The one thing these do struggle with are pictures with light and dark things. We tried a picture with a few vehicles, at winter. It was getting dark and the headlights were on. The frame really could not show the picture in a meaningfull way. But other than extremes like that it does really well. Long way of saying, thanks for bringing these to our attention.
That uplift in pixel density appears to be quite noticeable and enough of an improvement to tempt me. Not often a review of yours costs me money 😁
"Having this buffer is very handy in case of unforeseen events." I'd love to see a Techmoan video about a floor buffer.
Really like that wood frame, thats really nice. I got one of those Pikpak polaroid size/looking e-ink frames recently, thats popping up on various online advers at the moment, deffinately not such a good quality display as this one Matt's showing, but for about £50 it's not bad if you want a fun budget size one. Have to say the app is very good for it, you can upload several pictures to it and choose how often it changes and it's magnetic too, so got ours on the cooker hood in the kitchen, wife loves seeing the different photos each day on it. Would be brilliant if they could do an app similar for these larger displays.
Great view of a very interesting product. I was interested in the original but was a bit too big. Think I have found my Christmas present to myself!
6:36 I think the hashtag should be #HUMOR for the intended audience :)
13:00 A picture of a cat-sette recorder?
The small white rehaut on the larger frame, but missing on the smaller, adds to the presentation. It looks more premium and more like a professionally mounted photo.
I really wanted it, until I tried to checkout... They don't want to ship to Canada. They're based in the USA and apparently a lot of compagnies decided to boycott Canada... Sad times. Goal: Being a friend of Matt so I'd have a chance getting one for Christmas. 🎅
Not a "boycott"... they probably just don't want to deal with the ever-changing tariffs caused by our Dear Leader deciding to start a trade war with Canada for no reason.
Nice one, Mat. Yes I'm tempted by the model you liked. Good review, thanks.
Cool device and even better video :-) I would say I'm in the target group for such a thing, but I wonder why these all take so long to load, after having watched the video below and similar ones: https://youtu.be/nHbA2-_qzH4?si=3TKH3aCzWRA2a5nk The Modos Flow can do 60fps, so I think there's still room for improvement before I put my money where my mouth is and buy one
The e-ink panels with the most vibrant colour reproduction have the slowest refresh rates. You have to choose between slow or good but you can’t have both. Not yet anyway. https://www.eink.com
I really like that! Totally agree the wood frame looks better, it appeared to improve the perceived image quality to me as well. The "waterfall" transaction effect took me right back to my childhood and the agonising wait for a Commadore 64 game to load from tape 😄
I just bought one. 200 bucks shipped I think is a pretty good deal. I’m already shopping for Christmas. Thanks Mat
ah bugger it bought one. worth a punt at £169 shipped
The screen and frame look great, I hope the product does well. The software still isn't good right for me, I understand this is the best way to preserve power but without any kind of automation I'll just forget to update it. Some onboard memory and a button to change the image would've been enough.
a tap to wake it and get it to do a cloud sync/update settings and enable you to set a schedule for 10-20 saved images shouldn’t be a bit energy draw if you keep image changes to 1-2 a day?
I bought the original frame after seeing it in your video and we've been very pleased. Looking forward to watching this review too.
As far as I can see it on my normal LCD, the picture quality reminds me a bit of the Amiga-era, I like the idea, but the price/quality ratio still not perfect, but I'll keep it in mind! Thank a lot for showing! The wallnut frame is indeed very nice, I like it!
Funny enough, I have been revising those videos as I considered getting one as a calendar visible thingy.... But finally I didn't want / could not justify the expense.... Will end up buying it though
I was so nearly tempted by the original one, but just couldn't quite justify the cost. But I'm definitely getting the smaller one. It looks perfect. Thanks, Matt!
Nice product. I was worried about that stand at first until you pointed out it was metal - all in all it looks like a premium product, and the picture on the newer screen definitely looks more saturated, and presumably more accurate with your remarks about the brown of the blinds behind you. I wonder how much of an issue the flashing refresh actually is, given how infrequently I imagine most people would actually change the image, but the "waterfall" effect is certainly less unpleasant. Of course, maybe you are a really good actor, just convincingly telling us that you couldn't convincingly lie? That's how they get you! But, on the whole, I think our faith in you remains unshaken. (My faith in much of the rest of humanity not so much, though, given your previiously-explained need to add that "humour" tag. I despair.) But as always I enjoyed this, thank you kindly.
I remember being quite intrigued by the picture frame you featured a year ago. I had some trouble resisting the impulse to buy one at the time, but ultimately managed not to give in. Now I find myself fantasising once again about putting a meme or some Duckomenta image on one of those. Sigh...
Loved the concept of these since the original video. Going to take the plunge on the Walnut frame as it's currently on sale for £40 off. Thanks for sharing.
I totally understand that e-ink displays are expensive and I don't think this product is a ripoff or anything where they just sell a cheaply built thing with a huge margin. I just don't get the purpose of this frame. I just did a small calculation, for the price I could get over 1000 (!) similar-sized high quality photo prints on real photo paper from my local drugstore, so I could switch out the picture every single day for almost 3 years. Yes, the e-ink one can be updated instantly and I don't need to leave the house to collect the prints, but that increased convenience (for me) doesn't offset the lower image quality and ridiculous cost. So yes, it seems like a well-made product, but it's not for everyone. But if you like it, I'm happy for you! ;)
But the big question is do you do this? Because I’ve got a really nice colour inkjet but I don’t really use it.
The one in the walnut frame looks really nice. Might have to have a think about one of those.
That was a great idea for the Reflection Co. to come up with a smaller, more affordable frame. Hopefully in the next Oddcast we'll get a detailed segment on your trip to the Shetlands.🙂 The cassette tat gadget display looks nice too. Good choice.
I finally found a colour effect I liked on the cassette tat, fortunately it remembers it after a power cycle.
Does look nicer. No slideshow still makes it a hard sell and I’ll buy anything. I have an lcd frame we can send photos to and we like the surprise as it slowly changes through our favourites
I love how real and non-sentimental, bordering on fatalistic, you sometimes get in your videos and in these Patreon posts. This is why, when you showed off a certain piece of tat the last time, I thought "This is perfect. Now Mat can _literally_ have a little raincloud hovering over his head when he talks about how badly a recent video underperformed and how he expects this new one to do no better."
You’ve actually thought of a use for that cloud. Perhaps I can rig it up to a battery bank and prop it on the top of one of those tall camping rucksacks and wear it down the shops. It would make anyone think twice about approaching me.
Lovely little devices. I like the way they look, grainy like an old film photo with too little light, and I like how the photo changes.
I do like these but I know all they'd ever show is photos of her horse and I'd be responsible for changing the images. Oooh! Just checked and they are on sale at £161. Too good to pass up. Do you have an affiliate link I could use? I presume you have seen the E-Ink Ticket? https://www.eniacelec.com/pages/tickey I keep getting adverts for it and if I could just come up with 1 single sensible use case, I'd get one.
I hadn’t seen it…but now I have, just like yourself I can’t for the life of me think of what to do with one. I’d still struggle if I had a gun at my head.
Thanks Mat. Very tempted to pick one of those smaller ones up now. Love the walnut frame.
Paragraph 1, funny. Paragraph 2, I wonder which superfans would have noticed. Paragraph 3, good idea, and one too many 'f's.
I have taken an F-off.
I bought the original for my wife for Christmas off the back of your video. It was expensive as you know but has been a nice addition to the house.
