It’s that time again. A bit more detail on the videos you might have seen, plus plenty of newly created content just for Patrons. Chapters are provided for your convenience.

I think I’ve taken up enough of your day already, so I’ll just wish you all the best. Take care.

Oh, hello there. Please don't change the openings. Your approach is just what it should be.

T
Tom D · July 20, 2026

Only 6 1/2 minutes in to your video and I'm already making a comment. It's great that the company is updating their product based on your needs. I wish I had that ability. Although,it "ruined" your video, perhaps you can update your video with an intro and/or outro that shows how your feedback has caused that product to be improved and then re-release the video.

T
Techmoan · July 20, 2026

The flatlined view count of that video showed me that almost no one was interested in a review of that product. There would be even less interest, if that were possible, in a revisit and making all the changes I need to would take me about a day perhaps a bit longer, so I think that time is best spent elsewhere

T
Tim Applegate · July 16, 2026

I like to think that some small part of my humble Patreon support goes to enabling Mat's projector screen purchases.

T
Techmoan · July 16, 2026

I’ve tried to avoid wasting patrons money on this madness. Fortunately there were some affiliated sales commissions from the Xgimi Titan video that should cover the screens I ended up buying for it.

K
Kinguslearus · July 14, 2026

Keep the new way video intro, I like it.

T
Techmoan · July 16, 2026

Which one is that? I tend to do whatever jumps into my head after pressing record.

J
JRSC01 · July 13, 2026

i live the intros, i noticed the change to them recently but thought it was Techmoan type thing to do lol. Why are people so negative with every change these days?, it's not as if you have fake sound effects, cheesy flashy 'graphics' and applause effects all through the videos, with AI, open mouthed gasp clickbaity thumbnails. having 'You never guess what happened next' etc in it... etc. that so many other channels appealing to gullable people do these days.

F
Fabio · July 12, 2026

Dunno who's miserable enough to hate on those funny intros, it's just a silly little joke, good God some people... I like em a lot!

K
Kevin Allen · July 11, 2026

I love the Oddcasts more than the main videos these days. Always look forwards to the next Oddcast coming out!

T
Techmoan · July 11, 2026

I’m happy to hear that because I was starting to worry if it was worth all the effort. I like making them, but recently they have started generating some odd reactions.

m
mike picard · July 11, 2026

Please continue to do what you do, it's who you are and why we embrace your content. The snide whiny comments of keyboard warrior wankers are no match for your fun, educational and witty presentations. Viva Techmoan!

K
Kramer · July 10, 2026

Keep the quirky intro’s! I think they work. As does the chaos(?) of the oddcast, brilliant stuff 😁

B
Bernard Couture · July 9, 2026

Ooh wow! Sorry I'm late, but that weird "Silver Ribbon" antenna !! I totally forgot we had that when I was a kid in the 70s... I haven't saw you trying this (maybe you did off cam) but you can press down that midde section of the antenna and it will make the both sides of the antenna getting longer while the middle one will get shorter. I remember I had to adjust it for some tv stations... I don't think it will win the antenna competition tho, but anyway, thanks for that flashback from my childwood! :)

T
Techmoan · July 9, 2026

It’s amazing they’ve managed to keep going that long with something as unimpressive as this.

T
Timothy Roller · July 9, 2026

I love the cold cut intros!

If you ever need to make more cards for the radio, I think evergreen styrene sheets would do the trick - https://nexusmodels.co.uk/collections/evergreen-plastic-sheets

A
Andy Ihnatko · July 8, 2026

The only time this kind of intro earns an eyeroll from me is when it precedes a "Hey, look, I'm going to talk about something _very_ serious, and really _personal_ and _heavy,_ here" type of video. Like when a YouTuber has been caught up in a scandal and their management team has judged that it's time for an apology video ("I take full accountability for not looking around for security cameras before I punched that hotel desk clerk") or an Explanation Video ("It wasn't my fault. I was taking a new allergy medication and one of its known side effects is that all of a sudden there's a video of you from 2019 making horrifyingly racist and homophobic remarks for twenty minutes"). It's five seconds of: deep breath, closes eyes, "I can DO this," "No I can't do this" "But I MUST; yes, I'll be brave and forge ahead," another deep breath, gaze at the camera, then begin the prepared statements. I'm amazed that someone who's obviously so canny about storytelling and messaging (otherewise they wouldn't have 10,000,000 YouTube subs, would they) could be sooo tone-deaf about how fakey it all seems.

J
Justin · July 9, 2026

Jesus fucking Christ, dude.

R
Raul Ramos · July 8, 2026

I do like the intros... New Techmoan is energetic and dishes out! I have to say I had a dream about that radio. Regarding the switches. But it does seem you went down a rabbit hole there. Enjoy the air con though!

M
MrHammond · July 8, 2026

For some reason, with the aerial, I had to think about Mr. Bean trying to get TV reception at his apartment... BTW: that strange plug I've seen once before: on the Akai set my mother bought mid 1990s... The receptacle it goes in takes a standard coax plug (I think a female one), bit the pin as a small hole in the middle... Strange... And I see here that I'm not the only one thinking "WTF" when YouTube blocked the video for the ... soccer...

D
Drew Tavendale · July 8, 2026

Right before you said it yourself I was thinking, "the 'oh, hi' intro very much makes me think of children's TV", so that's at least two of us. But I'm certainly very happy with that as a way of starting a video - friendly, casual and welcoming, but without fake exuberance/over-energetic "hey guys" nonsense. Works for me, would get my vote. As to the "Big Mic" sticker, I did notice it, and assumed it was from the manufacturer and never for a moment thought it was customisation. Make of that what you will. As always, I thoroughly enjoyad your Oddcast chat, so thank you very much. Take care, and cheers.

T
Tink-GB · July 8, 2026

You never really used to make intros in the past...i.e. "You may have seen.." were your first words or "Today we are talking about..." and that was all...straight into it...brill...you were being normal with no gimmicks... or intros...still different to everyone else...perfect.. Stop second guessing what we want.. You dont need the money like these like subscribe people etc etc..thats why we all love you and appreciated your take on things..grown up honest reviews and opinions... nuff said...please carry on..!

L
Landon Pool · July 8, 2026

I love your bit of starting a video acting like you are in the middle of something else. It's nostalgic for me too. I hope it keeps up!

k
kalleboo · July 8, 2026

I worked for a company that made camera software and our conclusion internally was also that log was just a placebo effect. Even if you want to do custom grading, it's not any more difficult to do it off of properly exposed footage. log likely makes some kind of sense in a real cinema production workflow, but YouTubers working in it are just doing it to cosplay as big boy film production folk. (of course we still added support for log since that's what the customers wanted...)

T
Techmoan · July 8, 2026

I’m so glad it’s not just me. It’s got to the point where if someone mentions log and grading I’ll give a video a skip forward, if they then do it again I’ll close the video.

Wonder about that Now Playing device on top left of the screen. It’s pretty expensive and what I seen of YouTube clips it doesn’t seem that the graphic equalizer mode isn’t that correct. Am I right?

T
Techmoan · July 8, 2026

It’s just a nice fun gadget, rather than a scientific instrument. I really like it. Here’s the video. https://youtu.be/a8OkyJf3J4U

C
CharlieVictor · July 8, 2026

I have to say that I find your style of "oh you just popped in and caught me here" casual intros refreshing. I don't know that it's a style you want to use for every video, but at least for the Oddcasts it's a nice easter egg.

A
Anthony Rodebaugh · July 8, 2026

Your intro on intros cracks me up! 😆 The “oh, hai” thing is just fine. :) I really enjoy this loose format on Patreon. So glad to have joined.

V
VWestlife · July 7, 2026

....Oh! I didn't realize I was leaving a comment here. That "really weird connector" is an F-type connector, used for FM radio and TV antennas in North America. The antenna connector used on European radios and TVs is called a Belling-Lee connector (not BNC, as many people incorrectly think it is). I've never had amplified antennas work half a damn for me, either, because they just end up amplifying the interference as well as the signal. Usually all you need for good FM reception is a single piece of wire, cut to a length of 30 inches (76 cm), which equals a quarter-wavelength at 98 MHz, right in the middle of the 88-108 MHz band. If there's a specific favorite station you want to boost the reception of, cut it to a quarter-wavelength of that station's exact frequency.

M
Mark Hesse · July 7, 2026

Saw what you did there. Maybe you should try using a Techmoanesque "cold" open in your next video. I suppose that's not your style though. You're more like Waylon Jennings on Dukes of Hazard, "They keep showing your hands and not your face on TV."🙂 A question about antennas. If you have a piece of wire cut to 76 cm for your antenna, does the length of the lead from the radio to the antenna have an effect on what wavelength(s) it will pick up?

L
Liam Maggs · July 7, 2026

The iPlayer app for Apple TV has long been awful. It didn’t even support Subtitles for many years. Very poor really

G
Gareth P · July 10, 2026

I was thinking the same thing when he mentioned the UHD thing, not surprised at all. It also doesn't let you select kids profiles from what I remember and the interface is extremely basic. And yeah, the BBC say "yes, that is how it is, it is because we can't be bothered".

R
Richard Bevan · July 7, 2026

For the cards for the radio tuner you could abandon the hole punch and instead laser cut sheets of plastic complete with the holes for the frequencies. The laser could also engrave some text.

T
Techmoan · July 7, 2026

Someone with a laser cutter could…but I’ve already made all the cards now, one for each station.

P
Peter Laws · July 7, 2026

COLD OPENS ARE THE BEST. I see lots of Youtubers (well, two just today at least, both in England) who seem to chase the whiners (moaners, I guess). I mean here, you are ridiculing them which is good - the other guy I'm thinking of (think "exploding canals") seems to take any criticism to heart. No need - you're doing great.

T
Techmoan · July 7, 2026

Would you class a cold open as just starting right into it?

R
Retro Nick · July 7, 2026

You mentioned watching BBC in uhd, I connect via sky stream BBC iPlayer but I find the picture becomes quite dark compared to normal tv

T
Techmoan · July 7, 2026

Yes it is noticeably darker…I believe the UHD signal is also HDR and as a result uses a wider range of brightness, but that tends to err towards a darker average.

M
Mark Hesse · July 7, 2026

Not interested in getting a projector and screen myself, but I'm engrossed in the continuing saga of Mat and his quest for the perfect projector/screen system. Love seeing the angelic Mat with his halo at 1:07:40!😇 We've made fun of the audiophiles quite a bit here at Mat's place, but now it seems we've also got to reserve some mockery for the videophiles. Maybe they're too busy watching their color graded, log/log videos via optical video cables with gold connectors to notice. Maybe we can sell them some DVD demagnetizers as well😉

T
Thorben Julin Nielsen · July 7, 2026

You start your videos just like you want. I have absolutely no issues. But I still miss my name at the end.

T
Tim Barker · July 7, 2026

Regarding crappy Aerials making the signal worse, Mother in law went from sky to EE recently, assumed it was just all streamed, but turned out some of the channels came of Digital terrestrial, so had to fix her an aerial up, as her old one was rusty and poor The signal on the new aerial I got was terrible, so I opened up the part of the aerial where the cable connected and it litrally had an f connector soldered to a circuit board, which had a track linking both sides of the f connector together, so the wire wasn't even connecting to any part of the aerial itself, flippin' pointless thing.

G
Grace Robbins · July 7, 2026

For over-the-air digital TV I've found making an 'antenna' with a coax cable functions better than any real interior antennas: https://youtu.be/ACWdzkHSVXE It is ugly but it can be hidden behind the TV.

G
Grace Robbins · July 7, 2026

"That's mud," sounds exactly what I imagine someone who doesn't have a sense of taste would say. 😶 • Content blocked because the World Cup scores identified the FIFA content 😒 phooey! • 19/16°C 🧊 nice -if only I could export this weather to my locale- 😌 • From my experience those interior antennas are absolutely crap. In my apartment I had a dipole antenna with the spade terminal (like yours) and it worked very well after much adjustment. It's a relief that the exterior antenna worked very well for you after the efforts you made. It kind of looks retro space-age attached to the wall. You're a handy man. 👍🏼 29:34 • The Nixie receiver video most certainly should have had more views; I don't understand it. The punch card feature is awesome, and it's a real conversation starter; if you had visitors, that is. • Speaking of remotes - myself and my cat temporarily moved into my Mom's spare bedroom during the week of 105°F heat index (because I don't yet have aircon). The remote for her "Polaroid" TV was missing, I had to manually use the buttons on the TV. Also my cat howled all night, she wasn't allowed to freely roam the house. It was a heartbreaking experience that I don't wish to repeat any time soon. • I didn't notice the Big Mic because I can't watch your videos on my TV. I may someday be able to watch on the TV if I ever get Internet or a hotspot. • I notice the exceptional courtesies you make for the Mrs - making certain to clear out the garage and to conceal the outdoor antenna from the house; not to mention the bin day and laundry weather monitoring. 👍🏼 I'm sure she would really appreciate everything if she knew about it. 😀 I hope you're enjoying your new setup while you work on your next project. Take care, 🤍 you.

M
Mark Hesse · July 7, 2026

Polaroid TV??!? I'm now imagining that you have to watch it by waiting for 60 seconds and peeling the backing paper off the screen for each frame. Either that or it's just another case where someone bought the brand name and slapped it on their crappy set?😄

a
antzpantz · July 7, 2026

IMPRESSIVE deep dive into the Radio Punch Cards! That's something I would do too to get it PERFECTLY WORKING! 😁😁😁

I've only just watched the first couple of minutes of your video, Matt, and I will of course absolutely go back to it because I know it's going to be just what I need this afternoon. But I just want to tell you—and I'm sure you've heard this before—to stop second-guessing yourself. I think we all love what you do, and we're here to support you for it. Please just keep doing it and don't overthink stuff. You are an antidote to the professional YouTube influencer, and you're one of a few creators who manages to be consistently authentic. I'll watch every video you put out there. Look after yourself, buddy.

T
Techmoan · July 7, 2026

Your comment to tell me to stop second guessing myself is now making me second guess myself.

M
Mark Hesse · July 7, 2026

I've got two ideas for a "surprise intro" for your videos. Scenario 1: You do a jump scare when you "just notice" the camera, like you were caught unawares, "Whoah! I didn't know you were here. Well since you're here, I'll tell you about my latest..." Scenario 2: The camera catches you just coming out of the bath or shower. You're disheveled, surprised, sheepish, probably got a towel around you, "Hang on a minute!" you say, "Come back later when I'm ready!" Your welcome!🤭

Techmoan · July 7, 2026
