Progress Report #51 - Anniversary! And time to sum it all up!
Hey lads!
I'm really bad at posts like these, but v0.22c is out, it's game's anniversary, it's also end of the year, Christmas are coming and so on, so I decided to make some hot chocolate, sit in my armchair and write something up.
First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who supported me in any way, whether you spent your hard earned money on this project, wrote a review on some website, defended me from haters or simply played and enjoyed the game - thank you very much! All of it is motivating as hell and allows me to keep working on Unaware of the World, so without you all it wouldn't be possible. I'm really grateful! It's a wonderful feeling when you can really enjoy your work and make a living. So thanks again!
Speaking of time, it's really funny how fast it passes. I'm 29 years old already, and yet I still remember as if it was a yesterday, when I was sitting in my basement, trying to put a prototype v0.01 of UotW (which turned out to be an utter fail, even bigger than No Man's Sky release) together with my previous team. Yeah, today it's been 3 years since I created my Patreon and released Unaware of the World. And to speak frankly, I got really attached to this project over these 3 years.
Looking at the changelogs, in December 2020 I released v0.13. Damn, that was a really busy year. If you are interested, here's full list of all changelogs since v0.09. And here's the v0.13 EX to download. The difference in progress is quite visible. In 2020, I was alone with 1 graphic artist, year later and now I have 2 artists instead and also a writer, so team is growing! If project keeps growing, then maybe next year I'll be able to afford one more team member!
I love how fellow polish developers wanted to pay us a tribute. CD Projekt Red released Cyberpunk 2077 on the same day as we did with UotW, so each year we both can celebrate our anniversaries! While Techland decided to go with the same city name for their upcoming game, Dying Light 2 - The City. Even Netflix winked at us by releasing 2nd season of Witcher on the same day that UotW got pirated on the F95 forums, lol. So thanks, lads! Yeah, yeah, I know, it's all merely a coincidence, whatever... I still loved it! :)
Thanks to you all, I also won few bets, since some people didn't believe that I'll ever reach $1000 with this project and that I'll fail miserably, abandoning it, so thanks a lot for proving them wrong! :)
Ok, I talked about the past, so now let's move to the future. I'm really bad at planning, since I rarely stick to my plans and change them all the time, so any roadmaps wouldn't be accurate anyway... But I'll still try.
I talked with my wife about this project, money, bla bla bla, and she said that if I get over $2000 on Patreon, she will quit her job and become so called "housewife", taking many house & life responsibilities from me. So in other words - Less random stuff I'll have to take care of and more time to work on this project. I'm totally fine with this deal, since shopping, cleaning etc. is not my forte.
Regarding UotW content. Firstly, I want to remake from scratch Kevin's Diner & Kinky Nymph brothel. These 2 locations were created over 2 years ago and are using very outdated scripts, causing a lot of problems to me, so I have no choice but to remake them. I'll try to remake some of the Kevin's Diner still in December, but I already know that I won't be able to do everything that I wanted to do this month.
Also, the stuff I'm definitely doing in 2022 is - character art update (you can see screenshots in previous Progress Reports) - we will start with the heads for now, they will be ready in January, and then the rest of the bodies in either February or March. Finished character art will come out together with support for skin & clothes colors. I'll give you whole color pallet, so you will be able to set whatever color that you want. And probably another month to finish male art. Also, some more love for facial animations is planned.
Once we are done with the female art, we will add pregnancy with visible belly and once we are done with male art, we will add new character angle, so game won't be limited to the side profile only anymore.
I would like to add more actual support for translations. But currently I have no idea how to do it properly to make translators' work easier.
For minor stuff, coming out soon, we will be adding Slums, allowing Jane to become homeless. Also lesbian content is planned in the near future. I want focus more on "quests" and progress with story for each background (yes, main stories will differ for each background). I would like to rework event sheet, making it more readable, and add some kind of game tutorial, tips and so on, so people know what is possible in the game. But I'll talk about upcoming changes in their respective progress reports.
This month I'll be releasing v0.23 a little bit earlier, on December 23rd. I want to spend some time with family, rest properly and start new year fully recharged!
Ok, it's time to end the rant (does anyone even read these progress reports? lol). Whether you agree with me, or you say that I could do more in this period, I'm still proud with what we actually managed to achieve this year and can't wait to see what next year will bring!
Cheers! And Merry Christmas!
