Google Drive Version - The Expanse Season 2 Episode 3 Full Review and Reaction!
Hey all. Unfortunately, NBC Universal has blocked my video for this episode (despite no longer owning the rights to The Expanse). For future full length Expanse videos, I may just need to use headphones (as I do with PD) rather than include audio, just to be certain this does not happen again. But, for now, I have quickly uploaded this episode to Google Drive, so anyone who hasn't seen it yet will have a chance to watch!

Watching this one again and really enjoyed your in-depth analysis of Amos. You really have his number and I like how you didn't immediately peg him as a sociopath and went on to detail the differences between him and Cortezar. Also as I mentioned elsewhere, loved your reactions to Miller visiting the Mormon temple and then your realization of what he was really up during the meeting with Fred.
I would also be fine with the Google Drive option. Please keep doing these if YouTube Expanse videos become nonviable.
Don't worry! If for some reason, I cannot figure out how to work the system with YouTube, I'll definitely still upload videos to Google Drive for Patreon! I'm going to be watching the rest of this show, no matter what, and I'm happy to have all of you come along for the ride, even if YouTube becomes a problem long term!
I am going to skip the technical stuff and have a few comments about the episode itself. One thing you didn't comment much on is the Martians. Having seen these scenes many times over, I think it is worth pointing out that the issues Gunny is dealing with her team are actually quite important. They address some of the divisions between Earthers and Martians. and how this leads to conflict between Travis, who was born on Earth and Hilly who is Martian born. Gunny clearly likes Travis but is trying to maintain discipline and the military hierarchy while she also takes the opportunity to voice her commitment to a war with Earth as the only way to achieve a terraformed Mars. These small interactions of course are a build up to further understanding Martian behavior in general. Also another very spooky and eerie thing is the voices coming off of Eros. In the books, this part is written extremely well and leaves you imagining all sorts of repetitive voices saying all sorts of weird things. in the books they do take the data streams coming off of Eros and turn it into music on Tycho station just as it is portrayed in the TV series. That is a masterful utilization of the show to produce Eros music from the written concept of words and voices and weird clipped sentences coming out of Eros (they even have a quick clip of Eros station itself from the outside with the odd sounds eminating from it). Then the scientist Paulo Cortazar, takes the data stream and says "the Universe just kissed me on the cheek" which is also so weird and yet poetic at the same time! Don't worry, BTW, that discussion of Magnetic brain stimulation creating individuals without empathy is not a real technique!! All in all a fascinating episode which builds masterfully into the next adventure. As always I am enjoying the ride Molly!
Thank you for this excellent and insightful comment! You're right, I definitely devoted considerably less time to discussing everything happening with the Martian team. So, it's nice to hear some background and perspective on them. I think Gunny has the potential to be interesting. The first time I saw her, she gave me some Starbuck in BSG vibes, but sense then I definitely feel like she's got herself far more "together," if that makes sense? I also appreciate the additional information on how the sounds coming out of Eros are explained in the books. I do think that makes Cortazar's reaction even more creepy (but, as you said, poetic as well).
As long as you use Google Drive you should have no issues, i prefer it over the youtube uploads because there are never problems.
Damn... they just nailed another video from a channel I follow named Protomolecule. They just posted a video called: "Every Missile, Railgun and PDC Action from Seasons 1 and 2 and they nailed it so fast I wasn't even able to see it. They posted it and it was blocked within like 2 minutes. What the Hell? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRKP60KkXHc
Ugh... sounds like this might be an issue at the moment. It's particularly annoying, given that NBC Universal sold The Expanse to Amazon, but have now decided to start claiming videos none the less. Though to be honest, I wouldn't even mind if they just claimed the videos and took whatever revenue they could generate from ads. It's just frustrating when a video gets blocked all together!
Appreciate you doing this. Hopefully you'll be able to keep the soundtrack because in trying to sync the videos, playback speeds vary slightly and I have to adjust periodically. With only a countdown to start, we'd be all over the place by the end. Not a big deal, happy to get the extended review either way.
I hope I can keep the soundtrack too! I think it makes for a much better viewing experience for everyone (including me, as I prefer watching without my little ear buds in my ears the whole time). Hopefully this won't be a continuing issue. I'll see what happens with the edited version!
If you end up having to remove the audio from YouTube versions, can you include a countdown to the video start and a timer to see roughly where you're at? Sucks that this happens.
I will try to see if there's a little countdown clock option in my video editing software that I use. Hopefully, I won't end up having to take out the audio but if I do, I'll try to figure something out!
Sorry you've been plagued by so many copyright issues.
its the nature of the beast.... since reactions are almost always to copyrighted content... i wouldn't want to have to deal with it
