The Expanse Season 2 Episode 3 Full Review and Reaction!
Hi everyone!
Let me start out by extending a huge and heartfelt thanks to everyone who reached out to me, either by commenting or through a message, in response to my previous post. Before the day/night is over, I will be sitting down and responding to each of your comments and messages.
I am very appreciative of all of your support and well wishes. I cannot tell you how reassuring it was to me. Additionally, everything you said made me feel less guilty about taking a little additional time to recuperate over the weekend from a very severe migraine! I just want to reiterate quickly that I do understand if anyone feels uncomfortable with their pledge amount, given my current limitations, and I did not intend to make anyone feel otherwise with my previous message. I just want to make sure everyone has a clear and honest picture of where I am and what I'm able to do at this moment in time, so that everyone is comfortable and happy with where we are as a group. :)
With that being said, attached here you will find the link to the full review and reaction for episode 3 of The Expanse's second season! I thought this was another excellent episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development at play here - particularly with both Miller and Amos.
By the end of today, I will also have uploaded the edited/condensed version of this episode, as well as my two-part (two video) review and reaction to the finale of True Detective Season 3. I'll also have another short MK11 trailer video uploaded before the evening is over. Following that, you can expect to see my full reaction to Penny Dreadful Ep. 4, as well as the edited reactions to Sabrina Ep.9 and Hannibal Ep.6, uploaded between Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Thanks again everybody!
All the best,
Molly

Oops, looks like NBC (The owner of SyFy) has some algorithms out there blocking Youtube vids, maybe because of the soundtrack usage? Amazon holds the rights now, NBC shouldn't have anything to do with it anymore, anyway, I've seen this happen recently and other content providers have moved to Vimeo or some other alternative. Damn, more headaches for you.
Thanks for the heads up! I have uploaded this episode to Google Drive for the time being and hopefully for future episodes, things'll be okay as long as I use headphones or something. I'm definitely a bit concerned about the claim though because it appears to have been manually made, rather than being an automatic claim due to algorithms. I had a similar experience with an NBC Universal employee blocking my most recent Hannibal video after a manual review. Kind of makes me think someone over there is just watching all my videos for some reason now... which is a bit worrying.
"for a slower episode"..... also known as the calm before the storm... you are approaching the grand finale of the book Leviathan Wakes I'm just curious, do you ever read the episode names?
Oh I don't actually! Thank you for pointing that out though - I will make sure to read the episode names going forward!
Good to see you back Molly. The next eps are the end of book 1 and if possible need to be watched together ;) So excited, eps 4 and 5 are possibly the greatest 2 eps of scifi tv ever! Love Cotyar, the only person besides Arjun(Avasaralas husband) that can make Avasarala smile. Love Amos, such a fascinating character. Take care xox 💜
Ohhhh that makes me so excited! I was so impressed by episode 2 (and episode 3 was great as well). I'll try to make sure I have enough time to watch episodes four and five together, so I can experience the story the way it is meant to be seen! I also do enjoy Cotyar so far! I like seeing Avasarala interacting with someone who she can verbally spar with but who is, none the less, on her side. And of course, everything with Amos this episode was fantastically fun to watch! Thank you and take care yourself as well! <3
Very astute as always, Molly. In particular, your analysis of Amos and his reaction to and interactions with Paolo Cortazar (creepy scientist guy) is spot on. When Amos asks if Cortazar's "condition" is reversable, and in general expresses so much interest in it, a lot of people, for some reason, concluded that Amos was thinking about having that procedure done to himself. This is not the case at all; it's really quite the opposite. Amos does see traits in Cortazar that somewhat mirror what he sees in himself, but what people don't seem to realize is that Amos does not LIKE being the way he is. He asks if Cortazar's condition can be reversed because he wonders if maybe there might be some way to "fix" him, too. He doesn't want to be like Cortazar, he wants to be exactly the opposite. And, in fact, he's less like Cortazar than he thinks, but there are similarities, and because Amos is so self-aware, he recognizes them. It's an interesting thread that continues for a bit. There will be more to discuss about this coming up. I think you'll enjoy it. Sorry to hear you had another migraine. I hope you get a break from them for a while... you certainly deserve it. Feel better!
Let me start off by saying, thank you for giving me Cortazar's name! I definitely was struggling to come up with that throughout the video lol. I am somewhat surprised to hear that a lot of people thought Amos wanted to have that procedure done to himself! It just seemed rather clear to me that despite seeing the practical advantages of possessing the ability to approach the world in the way that he does, Amos feels that there is something intrinsically "wrong" with him and the way his mind works. If this were not the case, surely he'd go through life the way Cortazar seems to (or Dresden did, most likely), never questioning himself - and he wouldn't be actively trying to follow the advice and example of people like Naomi and Holden, who he views as morally superior to him. I so completely agree that it is important to distinguish between Amos and people like Cortazar, for this reason. I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing all of this play out and being able to talk about nuances like this with everyone! Thank you for your well wishes and kind words too!
I'm home recuperating from an illness today so thanks for the lift. Another fantastic review and I appreciate the clarity of your insights. Loved Miller's interactions with the Mormons, not only this ep but the previous. What a wonderfully drawn character. I've seen posts comparing Holden with Jon Snow and was wondering if you have a take on it. It might be too soon and I don't know if a comparison of The Expanse and GOT is possible, but it might be an idea for a future discussion vid (maybe after the upcoming seasons of both).
I'm so sorry to hear that you've been sick! I hope that you recover quickly and feel better very soon (and I'm glad to hear my video could cheer you up a little)! I completely agree with what you said about Miller's multiple interactions with the Mormons. I feel like the only reason I even considered (for the briefest moment - though I had extreme doubts the whole time) the possibility that Miller might genuinely be interested in going out with them on their journey was because of his earlier conversation with the Mormon missionary when he was on the way to Eros. That discussion definitely seemed to have an impact on him. But, it makes far more sense to me that Miller was prodding the Mormons for information in this episode, to see if his idea regarding destroying Eros could work. Still, I do feel that, despite all of that, some of his statements to the man he was speaking with regarding the "human" nature of the voyage and ship, were very genuine. That's a really interesting thought, also! I do think there's some validity to the idea that Jon and Holden have similar character traits. They're certainly both people who are very adamant about sticking to and upholding their values. I do think Jon is an idealist in that way - but I don't think he necessarily is as much of an optimist as Holden. I also feel that Holden seems to have more confidence in the idea that he's "right" or that he knows what's right than Jon often does (and Jon seems to be more of a reluctant leader than Holden has become - although, I don't think I would've said this in the first couple seasons). Given that we've had many more seasons to watch Jon develop though, I think there's a possibility Holden could eventually become less sure of himself/his positions and continue down a Jon Snow-like path. That'd be interesting to see! Also, I LOVE the idea of doing a comparison video! Thank you so much for suggesting that!!! I agree that doing it after the newest seasons are finished airing would be ideal, since I'd have far more information to work with. I definitely, definitely want to do this though! :)
So happy to see you noticed Amos's reaction when the Doctor was talking about what was done to the Protogen employees to make them morally pliable. Often when people comment on it they fail to see the similarities Amos feels with them. For a badass brute, Amos is far more complicated than he appears.
He certainly is complicated and I've been enjoying watching his character continue to develop over the last few episodes. I can definitely see why so many people told me that he was one of their favorite characters! I'm becoming increasingly interested in him with each episode.
This one's for tonight session, woohooo! ;)
Hope you can watch ep4 and 5 in the same session, as they go well together
Thanks for the heads up! I'll try to schedule enough time to watch both episodes back to back.
