Elite Workshop Day 1 — What kind of item should we make?

Hey heroes! It's time to make a new item together!

Please vote on a direction and leave a comment with an item idea that's as refined or as vague as you like.

Three or more of your commented suggestions relating to the winning item direction will be up for a follow-up vote tomorrow!

Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!

Let's make something exciting together! See you back here tomorrow!

Sream's Palette Painter Rod, rare This wooden rod is carved on both ends; one side resembles a pallet knife, while the other end looks like a brush. Over the course of 10 minutes, you can simulate painting a scene in front of you as if you were painting it onto canvas. At the end of that time, the brush stores the scene you painted with all the fine details of it's surroundings in a 150-foot cube. Painting a new scene removes any previously stored ones. Speaking the rod's command word and placing the knife end into the ground as an action duplicates the effects of the hallucinatory terrain spell with the rod as the point of origin on one of the cubes faces. The illusion looks like the scene that was last stored, and this effect lasts for 1 hour. Once it has been used to create an illusory scene, this property can't be used again until the next dawn.

Hawkren's Easle Wondrous item, rare (requires attunment by a Wizard) A 1-foot square wood easle with collapsing legs. It can be set up over the course of 1 minute, at the end of which time it casts tiny hut centered on its space. While you are in the spell's area, the time you must spend to copy a spell into your spellbook is halved. In addition, you can change some of your list of prepared spells when you finish a short rest in the spell's area. The number of spells you can change is equal to your proficiency modifier. Once the spell has been cast from this item, it can't do so again until the next dawn. It otherwise functions as an ordinary collapsing easle.

**Painter's Flight** *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This long white coat is covered in patches of paint and appears surreal, almost like an impressionist painting. While wearing it you can use your hands as a set of *painter's tools.* Additionally, you can speak the coat's command word and touch a flat surface as an action to transfer yourself onto it, becoming an exact painting reproduction of yourself. While in this form you cannot interact with the world, but you can move along the surface you touched, treating the edges of the surface as solid and being affected by gravity as normal if you're on a vertical surface. You can transfer to any other surface in contact with it as long as you can touch it. While you are not moving you are indistinguishable from a mural, and if you come into contact with any existing piece of art your form shifts to match its style. You can remain in this form for 1 minute, until you use a bonus action to revert to your normal form, or until the surface you're on is destroyed, after which you appear in the nearest unoccupied space. This ability can be used 3 times, and regains all expended uses at dawn. **Dweller's Canvas** *Scroll, rare* This seemingly mundane painting portrays a colorless, rolling field under a cloudy sky. As an action, a creature holding this painting can speak its command word to transfer itself into the painting, appearing in the field. The creature can sense as if it was in the painting's location, is able to speak and move around the painting, and can use an action to alter the landscape in the painting in any way that does not obscure the creature, but it cannot take other actions. The creature does not age and does not require food, drink, or sleep, and while it remains still it is indistinguishable from a regular painting. The creature remains in this state until another creature speaks the painting's second command word to release it, causing the creature to reappear in an adjacent unoccupied space. Once the creature has been released, the painting can be used again.

a series of postcards that can be used to create massive paintings of far away lands, each unique one acting as the material component for the spell plane shift

Ghost Canvas This canvas is tied to the ethereal plane and is used by ghost hunters with an artistic flair. While holding this canvas you can see 120ft into the Ethereal Plane. As an action you can target a creature inside the Ethereal Plane with the canvas. They must make a save or take force damage, half on a success. If the creature fails and drops to 0 from the damage they are then trapped inside the canvas, creating a piece of art reflective of the creature caught inside. If the creature fails the save by 5 or more they are automatically sucked into the canvas. If the canvas is cut in half or a creatures attuned to the canvas uses an action then the creature inside is free and the canvas turns blank again.

Visage of the Lost Art Gallery Attunement This strange mask vaguely resembles a face, which somehow looks strikingly familiar to anyone who sees it, but can never quite be placed. This mask has three charges and regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn. You can expend one charge to target a creature and force them to make an intelligence saving throw. On a failure, for the next hour the target sees and treats you as someone they once knew, as though your presence in their mind were changed to someone else entirely, similar to Modify Memory. While you have no clue who this person is, you can influence whether it was someone the target liked, hated, was indifferent toward, etc.

**Fairest of Them All** *Wondrous item, very rare* This large piece of art depicts a beautiful maiden. The art itself has truesight out to a range of 60 feet. When it witnesses something being stolen or vandalized in its vicinity, it targets the culprit with the *flesh to stone* spell (DC 16). Once it casts the spell in this way, it can’t do so again for 2d4 minutes.

The Salamanvil This stout anvil was crafted by an Efreet slaver. Made with the intent to set an example to the salamander slaves under his command, this anvil was crafted using the various spines and leathery flesh of a salamander that failed to craft an item to its cruel master's specifications. As an action, you can speak its command word to cause the anvil's top to glow white hot, allowing for smithing without a forge. Speaking the command word again causes the anvil's heat to rapidly diminish to nothing. Once per day, you can use the anvil as part of a ritual to summon the spirit of the salamander used to make the anvil, rendering the anvil inert for as long as the salamander is present. This spirit is neutral and can do nothing other than to contribute in the construction of metal items, contributing 100 gold of work per day toward's the item's completion, as opposed to the normal 50 per day (or whatever makes sense, I don't remember how the other books changed crafting). This spirit speaks only ignan, and while it will follow any commands (so long as they are related to metalwork) it is by no means friendly and it mutters with a vile hatred about anyone in its presence.

[Art Gallery] Appraiser’s Eye Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement) This small orb of mixed jewels with a pearl set in the center appears to be a gaudy impression of an eye. The eye starts with 5 charges and regains all expended charges at dawn. Speaking the command word, you can expend 1 charge to cast identify or 5 to cast legend lore. If you are attuned to the eye and place it within your own empty eyesocket, you can see fine through it as if it was a normal eye. You also gain advantage to Intelligence checks when appraising an item.
