Campfire Cord

Wondrous item, common

This small log looks like an ideal campfire starter. It weighs 1 pound and is roughly a foot long.

When you add this log to a fire, it releases a pair of loud cracks. When viewed from the side, the log's cracks can be read like a makeshift clock, allowing you to tell the time. The log cracks again at the start of every hour for the duration of the fire.

Furthermore, the log reveals a series of glowing embers along its bark as it becomes covered in char. The embers appear along a series of parallel, fiery lines that run the length of the log, functioning as a cylindrical sheet of music. While the log burns, it releases a soft tune, as if played from a gentle guitar, that follows the music shown on the log. The music on the log changes and adjusts to fit the local scenery and discussion.

Despite burning, the log is never consumed by a fire, and it remains cool even when plucked from an active flame. Using an action to dust the log off causes any char and soot to magically flake away, leaving the log clean once again.

Oh give me a home, where the giant elk roam,
and the deer and the unicorns play...
